UNCOVERED COMES TO STER-KINEKOR
On the 15th of August we were invited to go watch South Africa's latest thriller film, UNCOVERED at The Zone Rosebank. The star studded affair had the cast and crew of this film give us all the right FOMO ahead of the screening. The film certainly stood out and left a great impression to the individuals who gave us a review.
Directed by Zuko Nodada, Uncovered stars Nqobile Khumalo as Aluta, a determined young woman who dreams of corporate success. But when her journalist sister is killed while investigating a mining conspiracy involving her own boss, Aluta's plans are derailed, and she must fight to bring her sister’s killers to justice. As the plot unfolds, Uncovered twists and turns its way through some of South Africa's most pressing issues, leading Aluta to confront the festering evil of violence and corruption. Uncovered also stars Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Fezile Makhanya, Sorisha Naidoo, Thenjiwe Khambule and Robert Hobbs, and releases nationwide on 30 August 2019.
If you want to be part of the action of the opening weekend of this thriller head out to Ster-Kinekor cinemas in Sterland, Maponya Mall and Mall of Africa on 31 August, and then on 1 September 2019 at Southgate and The Zone for a meet and greet session with the cast.

European Film Festival 2016 - Trailer (South Africa)
eurofilmfest.co.za
From 6 to 15 May 2016, the European Film Festival 2016 will bring the best of European cinema to Cinema Nouveau screens in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban.
Ster-Kinekor will be screening 11 feature length films from across the continent at Cinema Nouveau theatres in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban during the festival. These multi-awarded films, which have been the toast of the international film festival circuit, have never been screened before in South Africa.
This, the third local edition of the European Film Festival, sees the introduction of documentary films, with three non-fiction offerings on the programme.
Festival Director Katarina Hedrén says: “We wish to contribute to the ongoing story of Europe. This story is one of a diverse continent in an interconnected world, which seems to be spinning faster and not always in the right direction.”
Topping the list of films at the 2016 European Film Festival is Amy (UK), directed by Asif Kapadia, which won the 2016 Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Documentary Feature. The documentary tracks the life of the gifted but self-destructive jazz-soul singer until her tragic death from alcohol poisoning in 2011, aged just 27.
Other decorated offerings on the European Film Festival menu are the dramas Macondo (Austria), Body (Poland), Montanha (Portugal), Flowers (Spain), Something Must Break (Sweden) and Labyrinth of Lies (Germany). Also gracing the silver screen during the festival are the musical comedy Belgian Rhapsody (Belgium), biopic Chocolat (France) and documentaries Fire at Sea (Italy) and A Family Affair (the Netherlands).
The European Film Festival is coordinated by the Goethe-Institut South Africa, hosted by Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau, and organised in partnership with the European Union and 11 other European cultural agencies or embassies in South Africa: the General Representation of the Government of Flanders, the French Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, the Camões Institute, the British Council, and the Embassies of Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden.

EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL 2017 IN SOUTH AFRICA - TRAILER
EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL
THE BEST OF EUROPEAN CINEMA COMING TO SOUTH AFRICA!
The European Film Festival is back for the 4th time at Cinema Nouveau theatres in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban from 5 to 14 May.
The lineup of films represents 12 countries, including Ireland and Croatia for the first time. Each film reflects the skills and take on the world of filmmakers who are not limited by national borders.
American Honey, an award-winning British-made road movie set in America’s mid-west, is as much a magical mystery tour into Americana as it is a coming-of-age drama. King of the Belgians is a comedic piece coming out of Belgium, which sees the Belgian king and his entourage crossing the Balkans in a madcap adventure, after learning of a coup back home. Acknowledged by the Rotterdam International Film Festival, this movie is a road trip with a difference, at once thoughtful, hilarious and wild. Strike a Pose is a Dutch documentary exploration of “Madonna’s men”, the male dancers who served to consolidate the pop icon’s message and status as an outspoken advocate for LGBT-rights. This winner of a jury award at the Key West Film Festival is an unrelenting documentary which exposes new aspects of a well-known story. Germany’s Toni Erdmann is the outlandish tale of how the passing of a family dog sets off a series of events with a major impact on a father-daughter relationship. Touted as an academy award winner for best foreign film in 2017, this is a must see, by all accounts.
Festival Director Katarina Hedrén who returns as the curator for the second time is delighted with the pickings: “With this year’s selection which includes films of different genres, textures and moods, the aim is to entertain, amuse and offer opportunities for reflection, new discoveries and recognition,” she says. “The theme binding the films together is cinematic excellence through acclaimed and award-winning films from 12 European countries.”
The European Film Festival is coordinated by the Goethe-Institut South Africa, hosted by Ster-Kinekor Cinema Nouveau, and organised in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to South Africa and 12 other European cultural agencies or embassies in South Africa. Sutherland, Hantam Karoo
Camping under the stars? At the coldest place in South Africa? At last Sutherland has a caravan park, just one kilometer outside of town, in the direction of Matjiesfontein, called Sterland Caravan Park. Here we farm with stars as this is also the spot where we do stargazing every night. The Camp site has seven stands with electricity, ablution block with two electric geysers. The surface is gravel and tent pegs can be easily knocked into the soil. The gravel is ideal because grass cannot take the frost in winter. Each stand has also got a separate braai unit.
