Stone Mountain Camp Ground Virtual Tour
A driving tour of the Stone Mountain Camp Ground in the Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. We stayed in C84 and had large shade trees to keep us comfortable. But, C90 has the best views of the mountains, water located at the site and only one neighbor.
The A and C loops are both Non-electric and the B loop is full hook ups. The Bathrooms are very clean with Hot showers.
The Camp ground now allows after hour exiting starting this year. They also have ICE & Fire Wood for sale and Trail Maps for free at the Camp Ground check in location.

Have a ball on five football fields of frosty joy, including 20 lanes of tubing. Zoom down the 400-foot hill all together in our family-sized tubes, or go it alone as a single rider. From snowman building to snowball shooting, tubing to togetherness, the moments will be frozen in time.
Hiking Stone Mountain - Stone Mountain Park

This hike takes place in Stone Mountain Park, Georgia and ultimately reaches the summit of Stone Mountain. This trail is 1 mile up and 1 mile back. The trail is entirely on exposed granite. I would consider this easy to moderate.
Stone Mountain is a unique quartz monzonite dome monadnock rising 1,686 feet out of the piedmont. The world’s largest bas-relief is carved into the north side of the stone. The carving depicts Robert E Lee, Thomas J “Stonewall” Jackson, Jefferson Davis and their horses.
To access the trailhead, use the Confederate Hall parking lot. Confederate Hall is on the left, restrooms are on the right and the trailhead is straight ahead out of the parking lot. The Trailhead has a sign and the trail is marked with yellow blazes all the way to the top.
The trail begins as a gradual uphill walk through a stand of pine trees. At the half way point, the aptly named “Halfway House” provides seating and shade. There are two steeper portions of the trail. The first has an installed handrail to provide some degree of safety from falling. The second steep portion is just before the summit and I believe is the most difficult portion of the trail. This area doesn’t include a handrail and should be traversed with caution.
I have read that there are spectacular views from the top; however I didn’t hike on the right for those views. On a clear day you can see downtown Atlanta to the west. If you are lucky you might even make out the Blue Ridge Mountains to the north.
The summit contains a number offers a number of activities including a visitor’s center and concession stand. A cable car system can also be used to access the summit. The summit is open and one can explore much of it.
Cost: $15 per car for the day.

Armed Left: Stone Mountain Shutdown
A coalition of anti-fascist and anti-racist groups gathered in Stone Mountain, GA to celebrate a canceled white nationalist rally. Among the groups in attendance was Redneck Revolt, a left-wing gun club. The climax of the march occurred at the Stone Mountain Park visitor center, where protesters burned an effigy of a klansman.

Stone Montain Park, Stone Montain, Georgia, United States, North America
Stone Mountain State Park is a 14,351-acre (58.08 km2) North Carolina state park in Alleghany and Wilkes Counties, North Carolina in the United States. The centerpiece of the park is Stone Mountain, a dome of exposed granite (specifically a quartz diorite to granodiorite) of Devonian age, which has intruded into the gneiss of the Precambrian Alligator Back Formation. It rises sharply over 600 feet (183 m) above the surrounding terrain. The mountain, which has an elevation of 2,305 feet (706 m) above sea level, is known for its barren sides and distinctive brown-gray color, and can be seen for miles. The mountain offers some of the best rock climbing in North Carolina, and the park's creeks and streams feature excellent brook trout fishing. Because the mountain is the best example of a monadnock in massive granite in North Carolina it was designated a National Natural Landmark in May 1974. The park visitor center features the Mountain Culture Exhibit including mountain settler life and artifacts, and natural history including trout, butterflies and moths. The mid-19th century Hutchinson Homestead includes a log cabin, barn, blacksmith shop, corncrib, meat house, and original furnishings. The Homestead is open Thursday through Sunday from March-October. The grounds can be visited year round. The 1897 Garden Creek Baptist Church continues to hold services seasonally. Visitors can walk the grounds when the church is closed. Within the park there are numerous outdoor activities to partake in. The park has established rock climbing, hiking, and camping sites.

1. Georgia is a state in the southeastern United States. It began as a British colony in 1733, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina down to Spanish Florida and New France along Louisiana (New France), also bordering to the west towards the Mississippi River. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states. It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870.
2. Coca-Cola was invented in May 1886 by Dr. John S. Pemberton in Atlanta, Georgia. The name Coca-Cola was suggested by Dr. Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Robinson. He penned the name Coca-Cola in the flowing script that is famous today. Coca-Cola was first sold at a soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta by Willis Venable.
3. The figures of Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, and Robert E. Lee make up the world's largest sculpture. It is located on the face of Stone Mountain. Additionally Robert E. Lee's horse, Traveler, is also carved at the same place.
4. There is a tree in Athens, Georgia, that owns itself and an 8 foot radius of land. Professor William Jackson deeded the tree and the land to the tree in the early 19th century. That tree blew down in the '40s and was replaced with a new tree from the original’s acorn.
5. Atlanta is known as the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement; you can find Martin Luther King Jr.’s house on Auburn Ave.
6. Atlanta is the capital of and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Georgia. In 1837, Atlanta was founded at the intersection of two railroad lines, and the city rose from the ashes of the American Civil War to become a national center of commerce.
7. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park safeguards the sites of two major battles of the American Civil War: the Battle of Chickamauga and the Chattanooga Campaign making it the site of the bloodiest battle in American history.
