About Salisbury
Salisbury is located on the border of Salisbury Plain, in the south-east of Wiltshire.
Essential stops for all visitors to Salisbury are the World Heritage site of Stonehenge, Salisbury Cathedral, Stourhead gardens and Longleat.
Much of Salisbury Plain, situated to the north of the city, is used by the British military for training.
SWC Free Walk 100, Amberley to Arundel. 23/7/12.
A fine 14 miles of walking in The South Downs area, covering some different territory to Book 1, Walk 32, though with some unavoidable, reverse repetition.
Starting out from Amberley station, the walker is soon crossing over the River Arun, a regular companion today, for the riverside walk into Arundel Park. This is familiar terrain from Book 1, Walk 32, though in reverse. Lunch is had in Arundel, where there are numerous possibilities.
After lunch, the walk crosses back over The Arun, through the small villages of Wepham and Burpham and then follows the valley back into Amberley. Thereafter, it's more valley walking, with some delightful scenery, for the return into Arundel.
A great walk, with some wonderful views, aided and abetted by some lovely weather today. Has the potential to be very muddy in places, and had some very overgrown sections today. Might be useful to wear some midge cream in season as this is their homeland!

8. Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe
In all of Africa, one of the greatest mysteries lies in Zimbabwe, more specifically, a great city from its past that was abandoned in an unexplained way. This city was called Great Zimbabwe.
7. Teotihuacan
Teotihuacan is a place that resides just outside of Mexico City, Mexico. It's a place of many mysteries, including who made it. A common misconception is that the city was made by the Aztecs, but that's not the case. When the Aztecs arrived, the abandoned city was already there!! In fact, they found it about 500 years after the place had been abandoned by its creators.
6. Nan Madol
Located in Indonesia, the ancient city of Nan Madol has attracted a lot of attention over the years, mainly because it was built on many islets in the sea. This actually led to its nickname of Venice of the Pacific.
5. Stonehenge
One of the most mysterious, legendary, and famous tourist attractions in the world today can be found in Salisbury Plain in Southern England, is, you guessed it! Stonehenge!!
4. Circles in the Desert
In a stretch of desert from Syria to Saudi Arabia, there are a plethora of circles carved into the desert. While at first this may sound somewhat basic, the size, frequency, and uniqueness of these circles is what has caused many to scratch their heads as they study it. In fact, when a pilot discovered these circles (also called wheels because of their designs), he went down to the locals to ask what they were about. No one knew the answer to this. The best answer he could get was the works of old men.
3. Richat Structure
If you go to the Sahara Desert, you're likely to think that you are only going to see sand, but if you head to the western area of it you'll find the Richat Structure, or the Eye of the Sahara, in Mauritania.
2. Giant’s Causeway
Northern Ireland is home to a very interesting natural creation known to many as the Giant’s Causeway. This particular formation is made of basalt columns that have sprung up from the ground after what many scientists believe was a volcanic eruption. But not a few dozen, or even a few hundred, or even a few thousand! There are 40,000 columns in this causeway that have sprung up.
1. Puma Punku
Puma Punku is an ancient site in Bolivia. It is a large part of the ancient city of Tiwanaku and similar to Teotihuacan, it predates the Incas in that part of South America. When they arrived the city was already abandoned and they wasted no time incorporating it into their own. They believed it was the city where the god of creation, Viracocha, created humanity.

Drones will have to be registered in UK safety clampdown
Drones will have to be registered in UK safety clampdown
Owners will need to show they understand safety and privacy laws as government acts after dozens of near-misses with aircraft
Drones will have to be registered and users forced to take a safety awareness test under new regulations announced by the UK government.
Dozens of near-misses with aircraft around airports have stoked fears over the safety of drone use.
Under the rules, owners of drones weighing more than 250g – heavier than many available on the high street – will have to register their details and demonstrate that they understand safety and privacy laws that affect their use.
The move follows research that showed strikes by drones of more than 400g could critically damage helicopter windscreens, while a bigger drone of about 2kg could critically harm airliner windscreens at higher speeds.
