They're a family of two fathers and one daughter. Alex is the biological father of the 2-year-old girl.
The two men legally married in Mexico City, where same-sex marriage is allowed. The couple is at the center of a gay rights debate in Mexico.
Their daughter, the couple says, was expelled from a private school in Monterrey for having two fathers.
The couple says an administrator at the Hills Institute, which also has a daycare facility, told them they would have to hide the fact they're a same-sex couple if they wanted the girl to stay at their school.
They were asking me to give up all of my rights as parent at the school, Alex said. I would've had to not participate in school or social activities. I was to not communicate with anybody nor attend together, as a family, Mother's Day or Father's Day celebrations as long as she was attending the school.
The couple found the conditions unacceptable, and the school expelled the girl just a few days later.
They saw us through the door's window and locked the door, Pepe said. The receptionist went to the back of the office. After waiting for 10 minutes, they sent an employee escorted by a security guard to tell us that the girl had been officially expelled.
Calls and emails to school officials seeking comment went unanswered.
On its website, the Hills Institute describes itself as the best bicultural school in Mexico's educational system.
The couple has filed a complaint with Mexican education authorities claiming that, regardless of their family's composition, it is illegal to deny a child an education in Mexico. They also filed a complaint with the Mexican agency that protects consumers saying the school has yet to refund their money. Alex says a check the school sent bounced.
As for the little girl, her parents say they're looking for an alternative school while trying to explain to her why she can't see her friends anymore.

Gay Pride Revelers: US Has 'a Long Way to Go'
(24 Jun 2018) Celebration is mixing with defiance at New York City's annual march for gay pride on Sunday.
The crowds are packing the streets for the Heritage of Pride march, with rainbow flags out in force.
It's important to show gay pride because it's important to be yourself and be free and be who you are, said Tyra Hill, who attended the parade.
Onlookers say this year's event feels more like a protest than in past years.
Many attendees said they view the annual parade as a way to show the nation that the gay community still has a long way to go to gain full acceptance in society.
I think the country has a long way to go, said Daniel McKernan. I'm from Louisiana and I don't feel comfortable outside of the city environment in such a red state like that.
The march is one of a number of LGBT events in cities around the world.
The marches commemorate the riots that erupted in response to a police raid at a New York gay bar called the Stonewall Inn in June 1969.
