Hotel Review: Le Méridien, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany - August, 2017
Hotel Review: Le Méridien, Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany - August, 2017.
I visited the city of Stuttgart in the German state of Baden-Württemberg for two days in August 2017, whilst there I explored extensively and made a number of travel films, that are linked below.
Stuttgart is the capital and largest city of the German state of Baden-Württemberg, to read more about Stuttgart, click here: .
I stayed at Le Méridien, Stuttgart in August 2017, I stayed for two nights, room only, which cost €310 room only booked with Booking.com. When booking, the hotel I checked on Google Maps how close it was to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof, and it looked a short walk away, however I had not factored in the impact of Stuttgart 21, and the resultant difficulties in hauling heavy luggage up and down walkways and steps. I learned the hard way that a taxi from the Hauptbahnhof would be a much simpler option. There really are quite a few steps that are not suitcase friendly.
The hotel is very large, and quite luxurious. Reception is cavernous decorated with art works. The receptionists spoke excellent English, and check-in was quick and easy.
The lift was very large and very quick, I had asked for a room on a high floor, and ended up with a room on the second floor. The room was large and beautifully decorated, with a huge king-sized bed, flat screen TV, wardrobes, desk and chair, easy chair, safe, iron and ironing board, air conditioning, hairdryer, and mini bar. The room was very stylish indeed, it also had ample plug sockets and wall mounted USB sockets.
The bathroom was bright and shiny, with an accessible shower cubicle and a range of free toiletries.
The fitness and wellness are called Le Spa, was quite a walk away, but very worth visiting, the gym was well equipped, there were a variety of saunas, but best by far was the really lovely swimming pool, which was mostly very quiet and an absolute joy to swim in.
The bar was very decent and not expensive for food or drinks, the staff were also very efficient and friendly.
This film features views of Stuttgart 21, views of the hotel exterior, reception / lobby, lift / elevator, a detailed room review of room 235, the first floor mezzanine, the walk to Le Spa fitness area; the gym, swimming pool, sauna area and bar.
This really was an excellent hotel, and I would absolutely stay here again in future, although I will probably wait until Stuttgart 21 is completed before returning to the city.

Places to see in ( Stuttgart - Germany ) Killesbergturm
The Killesberg Tower is a 40.4-meter high observation tower located in the Killesberg Park in Stuttgart, Germany. Originally planned for the 1993 World Horticultural Exposition, it was erected only in 2001. As early as for the 1939 German Horticultural Exposition an observation tower was planned. It was eventually erected in 1950 and dubbed Zaiser Tower after the company that donated it. At its tip, a radio transmitter was mounted. The Zaiser Tower was demolished in 1974 because the necessary funds for its renovation could not be raised.
In 1985 the City of Stuttgart received the contract for the 1993 World Horticultural Exposition (Internationale Gartenbauausstellung, IGA). In order to offer visitors an overview over a major part of the grounds, an artificial elevation was necessary. The site on the Killesberg where the previous tower had been located seemed suitable.
More difficult than finding a suitable location proved the search for an appropriate design. The tower should be delicate and fit into its surroundings. The ambitious objective was to prove that modern construction engineering can be environmentally friendly, even when the tower is high and features several large observation decks.
The first plans were developed in 1986 and worked out in more detail until 1991. However, the Stuttgart city council stopped the project because the IGA management had exceeded their budget. Subsequently, the Verschönerungsverein Stuttgart (Embellishing Society) was asked for support. This organization had experience with local development programs as well as with collecting donations. In 1998, long after the IGA was finished, they had raised enough funds to start building the tower, among others by offering sponsorships to companies as well as private persons in exchange for mounting their name plates on individual tower steps. The tower was inaugurated on July 17, 2001.
Significant design elements of the tower are the central mast whose heel is hinged via a steel ball to the central foundation, and the steel cable net of triangular meshes. The net is tensioned between a circular concrete foundation and a pressure ring at an altitude of 33.5 meters which in turn is suspended from the mast head by cables.

1998 07 06 A Walk through Stuttgart-Vaihingen (Germany)
This was made for friends back in the States (way before Youtube). I apologize for the quality of the transfer. It was an older capture device.
The town we used to live in. (1997-2002). Walking to the train from our apartment to the U-Bahn stop. Interesting Historical note: The Schwaben Bräu building no longer exists, a shopping center is there now. Progress...hmph. Stuttgart-Vaihingen was a fantastic place to live.

The Württemberg Mausoleum is a memorial in the Rotenberg part of Untertürkheim in Stuttgart, Germany. The mausoleum stands on the peak of Württemberg Hill at the westernmost end of Schurwald woods overlooking the Neckar river.
The memorial was built for Catherine Pavlovna of Russia (1788–1819), the second wife of William I of Württemberg (1781–1864). The remains of William I and his daughter Maria Friederike Charlotte of Württemberg (1816–1887) are also housed in the mausoleum.
The mausoleum was built after the death of Queen Catherine between 1820 and 1824 based on a design drafted by Giovanni Salucci. The location on the former site of Burg Wirtemberg was chosen as the home of the House of Württemberg. Between 1825 and 1899 the mausoleum was used as a Russian Orthodox Church place of worship. The memorial is still used to this day for a Russian Orthodox service every Pentecost.
The building stands by itself in the middle of the vineyards along the river Neckar making it visible from afar. The mausoleum is inspired by the Villa Capra La Rotonda build by Andrea Palladio. Salucci created a circular structure made from local sandstone with three pillared porticos and steps leading up to it. The entirely with interior has a domed roof. The arrangement of pillars and the colossal statues of the four Evangelists reflect the neoclassical preference for severity and purity of style.

A Day In Stuttgart.
My 1st visit to Stuttgart but not the last .This, the 6th largest city in Germany has much to see and that takes time. It's rather hilly and steep in parts , noticeable after Berlin which is so flat with tiny Teufelsberg .The architecture is impressive .Corbusier left his mark here and it was fascinating to visit the museum which explains his work and has a family apartment , once rented out .Easily reached with the UBahn to Killersberg . Then out to Herrenberg and the Stiftskirche Glocken Museum. An astonishing place .Well worth clambering up many steps and stairs. An iMovie on these bells and their history will follow . Note ) why my camera settings changed midway is beyond me but ....still the images remain . Happily exhausted ,I flew back to Berlin on the last flight. Another great day made even easier thanks to Air Berlin and Flughafen Tegel .
