MACHU PICCHU RUINS | Sun Gate Machu Picchu Hike and Visit to the Inca Bridge
Today, we are visiting the Machu Picchu Ruins. And even better, we also visited the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu, as well as the Inca Bridge - two places only a relatively small number of people even go when they visit Machu Picchu.
We started off at Aguas Calientes with a 5:30 bus ride to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, a UNESCO Heritage Site in Peru.
The two highlights of our visit are the Machu Picchu Sun Gate Hike, as well as the Machu Picchu Inka Bridge. These two sites are within the boundaries of the Inca sanctuary, but they require hikes that many visitors aren't willing to take in the heat.
The Machu Picchu Inca Bridge hike follows a narrow path along a deep cliff canyon. There is not much protection from falling, so hikers have to hike extra carefully to stay on the path.
The Sun Gate is the gateway to Machu Picchu for those hiking the Inca Trail. As hikers arrive at the Sun Gate from the Inca Trail, they see Machu Picchu from a distance. The Sun Gate view is spectacular, and the hike to Sun Gate at Machu Picchu is highly recommended.

TRIP TO CUSCO PERU - TOP THINGS TO SEE - VLOG
Cusco is the historic capital of the Inca Empire. In 1983, Cusco was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and has become a major tourist destination, attracting over 2 million visitors per year. In this vlog, we cover the Incan archaeological sights and the Spanish Colonial historic sights.
Our Peru Tour:
We travel from Lima to Cusco with Latin Escapes Tours. Cusco has a high altitude of about 11,000 feet. The first day we rested and sipped the local remedy, coca tea to adjust to Cusco's high altitude.
Our city tour of the Inca Royal City of Cusco starts in the very impressionable Central Square, known as the Plaza de Armas, which is surrounded by a beautiful stone arcade. Plaza de Armas is also the city's center point for activity, including performances, music, and fútbol parades.
In the Plaza is the Cathedral, which is exceptional because of its contrasts of styles. The first cathedral built in Cusco is the Iglesia del Triunfo, built in 1539 and the basilica was constructed using the stone extracted from the blocks of Incan fortress Saksaywaman.
The Church of the Society of Jesus, (commonly known as the Jesuits), was constructed in 1576 and its main altar is made of carved wood covered with gold leaf.
The Covent of Santo Domingo was built above the most important Inca Temple, the Temple of the Sun, or Koricancha, as it was known in the Inca language Quechua. Gold laminas or sheets covered the original Inca Temple walls.
Near the City of Cusco, you will visit the extraordinary Inca Fortress Sacsayhuaman, made up of three gigantic terraces, superimposed in a zigzag form, and surrounded by enormous walls of rock, some of which are up to 300 meters in length.
Qenqo, was a religious center formed by a singular flowering of calcareous rock. It has underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheater with a series of stone seats.
Puca Pucará or the Red Fort was military base made up of stone stairways, terraces, and walls. Nearby is Tambomachay, well known as Baths of the Incas, a place dedicated to the cult of the water, formed by aqueducts, channels and small cascades worked in the rock.
We visit Museo de Arte Precolombino which has an impressive collection of indigenous crafts, jewelry, and ceramics drawn from all regions of pre-Columbian Peru.

SUNDAY PISAC MARKET | Sacred Valley of the Incas | Cusco Day Trip to Pisac Peru
Part 1 of our day trip to Pisac, Peru.
Today, we boarded a colectivo (shared bus) to do one of the most popular Cusco Day Trips, a day visit to Pisac Market. This Cusco to Pisac ride costs only 5 Peruvian Soles, or less than 1.50 USD!
The Market in Pisac is considered to be one of the must visits in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It's the the biggest market in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Due to its popularity, this market in Pisac happens three times a week (Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays). But the Sunday Pisac Market is still the best day to experience this colorful place.
At 11 am, they have a Catholic mass at the Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol, the main church in Pisac. The mass is in the Quechua language, and locals show up in colorful traditional Andean clothing.
We also visited the Horno Colonial San Francisco, one of the communal ovens in town. It is a clay oven, mainly to cook cui (guinea pig) or empanadas. A very interesting scene to check out in Pisaq!
This is part 1 of our Pisac Day Trip, which only includes the Pisac Market on Sunday. Part 2 is coming up next, which will take you on a two-hour hike to the Pisac Ruins.

Inca Trail 2 Day / 1 night Trek: Journey to Peru // Day 7
*Watch in HD for an even better viewing experience!*
Each year for my birthday, I find a way to commemorate the ending of one chapter and the beginning of another. This year, I decided that I wanted to push myself physically and complete the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Because I was short on time I couldn't complete the traditional 4 night Inca Trail, but Llama Path offers a hybrid hike that lasts 2 days and allows for you to pass through the Sun Gate! It was one of the most difficult things I have done to date.
Come along with me as I give you a POV look at what the Inca Trail Trek is really like!

Travelling to Machu Picchu with Intrepid Travel
These days, Machu Picchu is recognisable to people all over the world. It springs up in history books, on friends’ Facebook walls and in many a travel mag. But it wasn’t always so. After the Incas abandoned their citadel in the 1500s, Machu Picchu remained hidden from the Spanish conquerors for centuries, used sporadically by local peasants until its discovery by an American archaeologist in 1911. It’s easy to understand why so many travellers embark on a Machu Picchu trek each year, and why the site became one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
The journey there is half the fun. It begins in Cusco, the ancient Inca capital, and leads through the gorgeous Sacred Valley and on to the gateway town of Aguas Calientes. Once you’re there, local guides explain the history of the lost city, and solo exploration thereafter is a chance to encounter llamas, absorb next-level views from the Sun Gate (for those willing to hike a little further), and ponder the mysteries of this archaeological icon.
Intrepid Travel has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1989. A company that began with two bearded backpackers, a typewriter and a kitchen table now leads 100,000 travellers across the globe each year.
And although we’re a bit larger these days – with 1,000 local staff based around the world and over 800 different trips across every continent (not to mention multiple kitchen tables) – our mission remains the same. We still get a kick out of responsible travel, small groups and very (very) big adventures.

4 Day Inca Trail with Alpaca Expeditions -- The #1 Tour Operator Of Peru
Hiking to Machu Picchu is a unique adventure - and when you climb with an Alpaca Expeditions team, it will be your best vacation yet. This is one of 6 Great 2 to 7 Day Treks Alpaca Offers. Watch and Learn More or visit:
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is generally believed to be one of the best hikes the world has to offer. It is also one of the most approachable, as you do not need any particular skill to be able to complete. Some good health and fitness will help you get from the trailhead to the end, Machu Picchu.
Compared to other famous hikes, its rather short - but along the way you enjoy a mixture of incredible ruins, snow capped mountain peaks, beautiful waterfalls and luscious jungle. At the end of the trail you will walk through the Sun Gate for your first site of Machu Picchu, where you will see the ruins from above at its most beautiful.
The government has sanctioned a small portion of the thousands of miles of Inca Trail preserved for this hike. The classic most popular route is 26 miles and takes 4 days. You can do this same route at a slower pace for a 5 day trek. There is a longer version for those trying to make it more challenging - a 7 day trek that combines the Salkantay pass with the Inca Trail. And there is a short 2 day version which is really just one day hiking and the second day is spent at Machu Picchu. No matter which route you choose, you will need a PERMIT to do the trek.
We look forward to helping you Make the Most of your Inca Trail Adventure.

Machu Picchu Tour & Travel Guide
If you want to visit Machu Picchu, make the most of your time there by following the tips in this travel guide. I'll show you how to have the best experience possible, with helpful tips like where to catch the bus in Aguas Calientes, what trails you can hike for free, where to get the best pictures, and of course, I'll give you a full tour of Machu Picchu and its incredible ruins and terraces.
If you want to know how to get to Machu Picchu from Cusco, you should watch my previous video:
Here are some time stamps:
0:15 - Where and how to catch the bus to Machu Picchu
1:14 - Entry tips and first views
2:47 - Inca Bridge trail
4:28 - Exploring Machu Picchu ruins (the city)
6:16 - Info about hiking Machu Picchu mountain and Wayna Picchu mountain
7:39 - Interesting facts about Machu Picchu from our tour guide

14:30 - Final views
Hike Machu Picchu or take the bus?
If you want to hike Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes, you're more than welcome to do it, but I don't recommend it. There are enough stairs within Machu Picchu that you don't need to add a 90-minute hike beforehand (2km to the trailhead from Aguas Calientes, and then 1.75km straight up the mountain).
Machu Picchu Trails
Besides exploring Machu Picchu's ruins and terraces, there are four trails that branch out and give you incredible views of everything. Two of those trails are free, two require a ticket and access is limited to 400 people per day:
Machu Picchu Mountain and Wayna Picchu Mountain: $15 USD each, buy your tickets way in advance. You have a 0% chance of getting a ticket day of. Machu Picchu is the big mountain just to the south of the ruins and Wayna Picchu is just to the north. Wayna Picchu is the jagged rock in the background of every instagram picture you've ever seen. It's steep and crazy. Machu Picchu mountain is more of a long hike. Not too bad. Both give exceptional views of Machu Picchu and the mountains and valleys around it.
Sun Gate Trail: Do this one first, before you even explore Machu Picchu. It'll save you from having to backtrack. You'll see at 11:40 in the video, keep going up the Inca Trail past the steps to the guardhouse. It'll take at least an hour total. Plan on 90 minutes if you don't hike fast or if you want to spend more time at the Sun Gate. This is especially cool because you literally hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Inca Bridge Trail: This is an easy trail but super scary if you're afraid of heights. The trailhead starts near the base of Machu Picchu Mountain. Plan on 30-45 minutes.
Machu Picchu Tour
Exploring Machu Picchu ruins is pretty straightforward since they make you follow the path. If you book a guide, have them meet you at the guardhouse instead of at the entrance. That way you can hike the two free trails first and then connect with your guide so you can take your time and learn about everything as you explore.
Thanks for watching my little Machu Picchu travel guide! If you have any other questions about visiting Machu Picchu, feel free to ask in the comments.
