The Bob Inn pub in Darwen, Lancashire
A great-grandfather was killed after he was grappled to the floor during a pub fracas with a landlord before collapsing dead at home an hour later, an inquest was told. Thomas Mercer, 56, from Darwen, Lancashire, was rushed to hospital after collapsing at home following a bust up at his local pub, the Bob Inn, where he had been playing bingo with his partner Margaret Quinn. The factory worker ‘had been acting out of character’ and assaulted his partner before landlord Derek Wolfenden stepped in and swung the punter to the floor who was said to be ‘foaming at the mouth. Following the incident Mr Wolfenden was arrested on suspicion of murder but the case has since been dropped however the coroner did find the injuries sustained ‘were consistent with what was recorded on CCTV at the pub.

Tockholes and Roddlesworth Reservoirs Walk, Darwen, Lancashire
Enjoy a circular walk around these pretty reservoirs near Darwen in Lancashire. There are good footpaths running around the water and through the surrounding woodland. It's a very pretty area with woodland streams and bluebells in the spring.
You can start your walk from the car park on Tockholes Road at the Roddlesworth Information Centre. It's right next to the Royal Arms pub which is a good place for refreshments after your walk. From here you head west through Tockholes wood to the two reservoirs. You can also visit Rake Brook Reservoir which is just to the west of the lower reservoir.
This walk makes use of the Witton Weavers Way so you could extend your outing by heading to the nearby Darwen Tower and Sunnyhurst Woods. You could also follow the River Roddlesworth through Roddlesworth Woods at the southern end of the reservoir.
