Is Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia the greatest city in the world? I venture back to one of my favourite places on the planet, Caribbean Coast of Colombia, in one of my favourite countries in the world, to visit one of the greatest cities ever, Cartagena.
From Boca Grande, to Getsemani, Cartagena is a diverse, special city that you can see in video but cannot feel until you actually arrive in the city. The colourful buildings in the center of Getsemani area of Cartagena, and walking along the fortress wall. The marina of my favourite neighbourhood in Cartagena, Manga, the list goes on.
Taganga, Colombia |
Cartagena is a city where you need to spend at least a few days to to get your epiphany moment of why this city is so incredible. Don't let the Colombian Caribbean heat put you off. Embrace it, visit Isla Baru, walk around Getsemani, the Centro, go up La Popa that looks over Cartagena. Take a boat tour, visit the Cartagena markets. Sit at a coffee shop and see people wander the Cartagena streets selling mangos, coconuts. Whatever you're into, do it at a slow pace to ensure Cartagena has enough time to win you over because eventually it will.
Taganga, Colombia Sunset |
I really liked Cartagena my first visit, even more so on my 2nd, and now I have been back 4 or 5 times and it is a full on love affair.
This country of Colombia just keeps getting better. Come visit and travel Colombia and fall in love again.

When walking the streets of Cartagena, Colombia, you can look up towards the ridge and see the white house at the top from almost anywhere in the open city.
This house is actually a church known as La Popa and walking up here for the viewpoint is one of the best things to do in Cartegena Colombia because you get to view a gorgeous church and also an incredible view over the Bocagrande area of Cartagena, including Getsemani, and the centro area of Cartagena.
If you look backwards, you can see the big lake that occupies a lot of the flats of Cartagena and is a beautiful place to catch the sunset over one of the most incredible places in Colombia.
Make sure to SUBSCRIBE for more videos from Colombia and more videos from Cartagena. Back to Medellin and then on to Salento and other places in Colombia so stay tuned and come travel Colombia, as it is one of the greatest countries in the world.

Island Getaway in Barú, Colombia, with Leanne
Leanne, Flight Attendant at Air Transat and travel enthusiast, brings you to discover her top spots in Isla Barú - a gorgeous, luscious and paradise-worthy island in Colombia, and surrounding islands. Its beautiful beaches, turquoise waters and diverse fauna and flora makes it a perfect destination to unwind and soak in nature's beauty.
Follow her as she takes off by boat from Cartagena's port to reach Rosario Island, a pretty archipelago in the middle of bright turquoise waters. She'll share the best snorkelling spot in the area, and a secluded beach where you can reach a sand bar that makes you look like you can walk on water. Then, she navigates to Isla Baru, where she visits a bird sanctuary full of local species including flamingoes, spatulas, eagles, herons, storks, parrots and toucans. She ends this perfect day on Playa Blanca, a very popular beach among locals where she watches the sunset.

Storm Sailing at night - Colombia Crossing (The Sailing Family) Ep.50
- We crossed from Panama to Colombia - offshore - 230 nm. The first night we had a lot of lightnings but beside us - so we had luck and the second night was quiet and nice but at 4 a.m. everything changed. We hit a Colombian storm - the same like last year. But this year it was 1 hour long followed by a storm which lasted 4 hours all in all. As we had to sail upwind it was really hard to fight against wind and waves…
We hope by sharing this adventure you will find some inspiration in your life. If doesn’t have to be sailing. It can be anything at all. Just take a few minutes every day for yourself, breathe deep and relax, and don’t forget to SMILE big time!

Skyline - City of Cartagena (Colombia) - Arriving the Habour with Mein Schiff 6 / 8. Jan. 2019
The city of Cartagena, known in the colonial is a major port founded in 1533, located on the northern coast of Colombia in the Caribbean Coast Region. It was strategically located between the Magdalena and Sinú rivers and became the main port for trade between Spain and its overseas empire, establishing its importance by the early 1540s. During the colonial era it was a key port for the export of Peruvian silver to Spain and for the import of enslaved Africans under the asiento system. It was defensible against pirate attacks in the Caribbean.[3] It is the capital of the Bolívar Department, and had a population 971,592 as of 2016.[2] It is the fifth-largest city in Colombia and the second largest in the region, after Barranquilla. The urban area of Cartagena is also the fifth-largest urban area in the country. Economic activities include the maritime and petrochemicals industries, as well as tourism.
Cartagena Part 4: Castillo Grande Drone
Castillogrande is with old city, one of the most exclusive places of Cartagena. Huge white skyscrapers are also visible when the plane is arriving the airport.
Bocagrande is also a popular touristic place with plenty of lodging options. Although I personally like the most the beaches in Islas del Rosario.
The port where Caribbean cruises arrive is also visible in the Panoramic view.

German freighter cut in two Peruvian passenger ship deep in Amazon jungle
General cargo ship BBC ZARATE in the morning Feb 15 collided with local passenger ship MEN DEL NORTE 2 on Amazon river near Iquitos, Belen district, Peru. BBC ZARATE struck passenger ship portside near midshipsection, inflicting heavy damages and practically, cutting MEN DEL NORTE 2 in two. Luckily, all passengers on board were rescued, no injures reported. It seems like BBC ZARATE remained stuck in MEN DEL NORTE 2. BBC ZARATE was in Iquitos since Feb 12.
it looks like BBC ZARATE was anchored, while carrying out cargo operations, with No.1 Hold open. Passenger ship lost control or miscalculated her movements, and rammed into BBC ZARATE bow.

EPISODE 70 - San Andres - Providencia
Hi everyone and welcome to our channel.
In this episode we are still showing you some about San Andres and we also are taking you to Providence, the last Colombian island in this area. Providence is smaller than San Andres and wilder. We felt in love with this amazing island. People are so kindly and there are so many beautiful places. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay too much time because we had to go to Guatemala for maintenance.
Hope you will like this small paradise.
See you in two weeks for the next Episode.
Like Abraham Lincoln said “ In the end, it’s not the years in your life count, it’s the life in your years” ….. Enjoy !!!
