in 1978 just outside the busy port of Willemstad, off the island of Curacao Superior Producer was sank filled with clothes and drinks, headed for Venezuela for the Christmas shopping season. It was overloaded and left against the advice of its captain. The cargo shifted in the oceans swells and quickly sank on a even keel.
He sits on a sand plateau 60m/196 from the shore, at a depth of 32 m/105ft.
After all these years on the bottom of the ocean he has been transformed full of vivid corals, tube sponges, you can see barracudas and tarpons swimming around.
The marine life fully appreciate the impact this wreck has on the undersea environment.
2015 the coolest wreck in Curacao will turn in to a Block of Concrete for construction of a Mega Pier for cruise ships !!

On the 26th of September 2016, I made a dive on the wreckage of the Superior Producer. This ship sunk almost 40 years ago in 1977 a bit off coast near Willemstad, Curacao. It was overloaded with jeans and whiskey and it started sinking in the harbour of Willemstad.
They decided to drag it outside of the harbour before it touched the ground at 30 meters of depth. A day later all cargo was taken by locals and devided under them.
Nowadays it is known as one of the most beautiful wreckages of the caribbean. But it is threaten by the proposed construction of the second Mega Pier and will probably be lost in the near future...
I saw a lot of big Tarpons in and around the wreckage, saw a few Baracuda's and entered the hold, the staff room and the cockpit.
It was the most awesome dive of my whole trip to Curaçao and I have to give a special thanks to Chris Joris, my buddy for this dive and Scuba Do Diving for all the good care.

Interesting conditions made the entry to this dive somewhat challenging. But oh! was it worth it...
Superb wreck dive, and a beautiful reef dive on the way back up - complete with stunning corals, cool critters - and a baby turtle.

Als ik naar Curaçao kom staat een duik naar het wrak van de Superior Producer altijd op mijn verlanglijstje. Het wrak zonk in 1977 net buiten de haven van Willemstad.
Tijdens deze duik doken we in het open laadruim en door de stuurhut. Rondom het wrak zwom een grote school tarpons! Een tarpon was zo vriendelijk mee te zwemmen het laadruim in. Tijdens de veiligheidsstop kwamen we nog een schildpadje tegen.
Op het landgoed van landhuis San Juan liggen enkele prachtige afgelegen strandjes die door weinig duikers bezocht worden. Met Relaxed Guided Dives maakten wij een prachtige duik bij Playa Largu waarbij we weer verrast werden met een prachtige schildpad en queen angelfish. Puur genieten!

Curacao Dive Site Guide | Superior Producer - Iconic Shipwreck | Dutch Caribbean
Sitting quietly upright on her keel with her bow facing west in roughly 30m (100ft) of water and about 150m (500ft) from the shoreline just west of the Curaçao Mega-pier. As an advanced shore or boat dive, the easiest approach is from the stern due to the possibility of the prevailing currents. #curacao #scubadiving #shipwreck
As you descend the fringing reef, an eerie dark shadow starts to appear. At first, you only see the stern, but then the entirety of this magnificent 50m (165ft) mass with it superstructure rising to within 21m (72ft) of the surface reveals itself, covered in a vast kaleidoscope of color. Now with roughly 30 years of growth, the MV Superior Producer is an amazing artificial reef site home to numerous colonies and different species of corals, sponges, gorgonians and sea whips. Because of this, it is a natural attraction for schools of predatory fish such as Tarpons, Barracudas, Snappers and Jacks.
This is also a heaven for macro photographers and anyone who likes to get a close look at smaller stuff too. Caribbean spiny lobsters, parrotfish, French and Queen angelfish, turtles, scorpionfish and even morays. Look even closer for banded coral shrimp, nudibranchs, flamingo-tongue shells and possibly even frogfish. Basket stars, octopus and large spider crabs catch the eye while night diving this beautiful shipwreck too.
With its wide-open cargo holds and accessible wheel house, the MV Superior Producer has become renowned as one of the Top Shipwrecks in the World rivaled only by the likes of the SS Thistlegorm in the Red Sea and the WWII wrecks in Palau.

Das Wrack der Superior Producer liegt nahe des Mega-Piers von Willemstadt in 33 m Tiefe aufrecht auf Grund. Es sank im September 1977 völlig überladen mit Whisky, Papier und Tüchern bei einem Sturm vor der Hafeneinfahrt. Schon kurz nach dem Untergang wurde die gesamte Ladung geborgen.
