Taichung, Taiwan - Taichung Park Full Tour HD (2017)
The Taichung Park (Chinese: 臺中公園; pinyin: Táizhōng gōngyuán) is the oldest park in Taichung, Taiwan. It was built when Taiwan was under Japanese rule and is also called “Chungshan Park” (中山公園; Sun Yat-sen park).
Taichung (Hokkien POJ: Tâi-tiong), officially known as Taichung City, is a special municipality located in center-western Taiwan. Taichung has a population of approximately 2.78 million people and has been officially ranked as Taiwan's second most populous city since July 2017. The current city was formed when Taichung County merged with the original provincial Taichung City to form the special municipality on 25 December 2010.
Located in the Taichung Basin in central Taiwan, the city became a major economic and cultural hub during Japanese rule. It serves as the core of the Taichung–Changhua metropolitan area, with Xitun District serving as its industrial and manufacturing base. The city is home to the National Museum of Natural Science and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, as well as many cultural sites, including the historic Taichung Park, the Lin Family Gardens, and many temples.

Travel in Taiwan (2015, Nov./Dec.)
By Rick Charette
Wuling Farm (www2.wuling-farm.com.tw) was settled by retired servicemen in 1963, with a focus on fruit-growing. These men had come from mainland China in the great late 1940s Nationalist exodus to Taiwan. The government set up this and other high-mountain veterans’ farms along the Central Cross-Island Highway, built 1956~1960 by many of these same servicemen, to help the decommissioned vets earn a living.
These days, only a few show orchards still exist, and most of the cultivation that still goes on is dedicated to tea. A single easy-grade road traverses the farm valley, with a side road leading up to the alpine-meadow campground and beyond up past tea orchards to the Mt. Xue Trailhead Service Station, starting point of the high-mountain hiking trail leading to the peaks of Mt. Xue (Snow Mountain), which is part of Shei-Pa National Park (spnp.gov.tw). The side road is a fine choice for a moderately strenuous walk (about 2 hours return).
There are numerous pleasant short walking trails branching off from the main road, and you can also rent bicycles beside the farm’s visitor center. Note that during the fabulous spring cherry-blossom season there can be comparatively heavy traffic into the recreational farm, though visitor numbers are controlled.
For my part, beyond the spirit-lifting panoramic scenery, the farm’s two highlights are the landlocked salmon and Taoshan Waterfall Hiking Trail. The critically endangered sub-species, one of the world’s rarest fish, was trapped in the Dajia River system’s upper reaches during the last Ice Age. Learn about preservation efforts at the Taiwan Salmon Eco Center, and view the fish au naturel at the roadside/riverside Fish-watching Lookout. The popular waterfall trail starts at the main road’s terminus, past Wuling Suspension Bridge, another good salmon-spotting platform. The paved, pine tree-shaded 4.3km forest walk, mildly strenuous, ends with a grand view of the 50m-high falls, cascading down like twisting white ribbons of silk. Give yourself 3 hours (return). If you return around dusk wildlife spottings may well be a bonus reward.
The entrance to Fushoushan Farm (fushoushan.com.tw), another veterans’ farm, is directly above Lishan. The village is high up a mountainside; the farm, higher still, takes up the mountain mammoth’s uppermost reaches. Beside the visitor center of the farm is the Apple King, a magical, photogenic tree onto which 43 apple varieties have been grafted, all named on an information board. (Note: free guided farm tours, in Chinese, are launched daily from the center.)
One of the farm’s best-known draws, Tianchi (Heaven Pond), sits at the mountain’s very top. This is the best farm location for views of Mt. Xue’s west peak, though often blocked by cloud and mist in the afternoon. Daguan Pavilion, beside, is an airy two-story Chinese-style building once used by Chiang Kai-shek as a temporary residence. Two other farm villas built for him, Fushou Villa and Sunglu Villa (his son, Chiang Ching-kuo, spent more time at the latter), are today accommodations for visitors staying at the farm.
My most pleasant walk during our stay – the farm has a number of easy trails – was through the broad, fragrant orchard behind the visitor center, which has good English signboard information, leading to the immortals-amongst-the-clouds views at Guanxue (“Snow Viewing”) Pavilion and Songlin (“Pine Forest”) Trail. Among the autumn produce readying for harvest were numerous apple varieties and persimmons, along with such unexpected treats as kiwi fruit and chestnuts.
Taiwan Travels in Nantou |ft.Qingjing Farm ,Old England ???????????????????????????? and Hehuanshan Mountain
Qingjing Farm was established on February 20th, 1961. The farm is for agricultural development, it located in Nantou County, the place of Central Cross-Island Highway's center horizontal road first line #14 near the north end place of 08 kilometer. It is the place you will pass when you are heading to Hohuan Mountain, the center horizontal highroad's organized body branch.
Nowadays the Qingjing Farm follow the herbage rebirth of the seasonal changes in March, the garden turns green, the procreation of the cows and sheep. You will feel the luxuriant of the peach blossom, the pear bloom, and the apple bloom during the spring season in Qingjing Farm. April is the month for picking the spring tea. The digitalis bloomy with purple bright-red flowers is in the bucolic area. May is the season for the chrysanthemum in the bucolic area and the rhododendron bloom in the Hehuan Mountain. Besides the different views in spring and summer, the scenery during autumn and winter has other kinds of view in Qingjing Farm. You can watch maple in October in Qingjing Farm. The sounds of the stepping on the fallen maples are romantic. Another part, the local agrarian afford different kinds of peach in different seasons, such as the 20-century pear, the California plum, the kiwi, and the high-temperature greenstuffs. The high-temperature greenstuffs mean the vegetable that grew in the higher sea level area with the adaptable temperature between 13~24 degrees Celsius and the bearable cold season greenstuffs for long distance, such as green cabbage, sweet chili, and the peas in local.
Chingjing High-altitude Scenic Trail
The 1.2km-long Chingjing High-altitude Scenic Trail is located at 1,700-2,000 meters above the sea level. It is the longest and highest-altitude trail in Taiwan. Along the path are scenic platforms which provide visitors with birds-eye views of the Central Mountain Ridge, Qilai Mountain and more. Taking a stroll among the crown layer of the trees, visitors can also expect to look at the beautiful Qingjing area panoramically. The trail’s accessible designs allow baby trolleys and wheelchairs to move freely, making it suitable for family visitors.

Taiwan - Police Not Ruling Out Terrorism in Train Blast that Left 25 Injured - 7-7-2016
The blast took place on Thursday night (7 July 2016) in a commuter train carriage in Taipei's Songshan Railway Station. The train was travelling from Taipei to Keelung in northern Taiwan, some three hours away.
Witnesses said they heard three blasts inside the carriage before it burst into flames. They said they saw a man who walked in and left a bag in the cabin moments before the explosion.
A 20cm-long, black object was found on the train seat, according to police. National Police Agency Director-General Chen Kuo-en said the object looked like a firecracker, reported Central News Agency.
Commuters said the explosives were believed to have contained gun powder.
Taiwan premier Lin Chuan told reporters: It looks like somebody did this with a malicious intent and we will fully investigate this case.
He ordered relevant government agencies to form a team to investigate the explosion and to help the victims get the best medical attention, Cabinet spokesman Tung Chen-yuan said.
Among the victims, four are seriously hurt, including a 14-year-old boy who sustained 30 per cent burns on his face and limbs.
After visiting some of the victims at the hospital, Mr Lin told reporters that the police had raised the alert level and beefed up surveillance, urging Taiwanese to be at ease.

Police told local media they found a broken tube with explosive material inside that looked like a firecracker.
Premier Lin Chuan told media it appeared malicious but police have not ruled out an accident.
Police bomb squad chief Lee Tzu-wen told local media that investigators found a 15cm-long, broken metal tube stuffed with explosive material inside a black backpack that they believe could caused the blast.

The Pingxi Small Railway line is a thirteen kilometre, narrow-gauge railway, one of three remaining open from the Japanese era. The towns along the Pingxi Line were all once thriving mining towns, all feature “old streets” selling tourist paraphernalia and old Japanese buildings.
Jingtong Station was built by the Japanese in the 1930s. The town is a terminus of the Pingxi Line.
Along the rail line, lovers and others write wishes on bamboo sticks (“wish sticks”) and hang these on trees, fences, and anything else that might be available.
Pingxi is special for its unique architecture and design, as its market area, Pingxi Old Street, is built into a hill with a train track going overhead right through the middle with shops around selling local food and gifts. Visitors are able to check out shops built during the 1930s and 1940s, as well as wooden houses built during the Japanese occupation era.
However, Pingxi is undoubtedly the most famous stop on the Pingxi Line because of its annual lantern-launching activities during the Lantern Festival period after the Chinese New Year. Perhaps 1,000 or so lanterns are launched over a period of a couple of weeks. The launchings are conducted at night, making for a dramatic scene. But be forewarned that the popularity of the festival makes for very crowded viewing. During the rest of the year, one can purchase and launch lanterns on one’s own.
Pingxi is also known for its sausage vendors who slice up and add toppings to their sausages.
Shifen is perhaps the best stop on the Pingxi Line for picture-taking. Travelers are free to walk along the rail line, which runs right through the downtown.
Shifen is the most active place for the purchasing, igniting, and launching of lanterns into the night sky. The lanterns, carrying written notes expressing the wishes of the launchers, are set aloft from the rail tracks, and everyone scampers away when a train makes its way through town. As helpful signs explain, different colors of lanterns represent different types of wishes, such as those involving romance, good health, and success on exams. You can buy the sky lanterns for about NTD150 (US$5) and then paint a good luck message. The origin stems from an ancient custom where people would release sky lanterns to signal an area was safe.
The Jingan Suspension Bridge, a popular spot for photography, is right next to Shifen Station.
About 1.3 KM from Shifen Old Streets / Shifen train station, the Shifen Waterfall has a total height of 20 metres (66 ft) and is 40 metres (130 ft) in width, making it the broadest waterfall in Taiwan. On sunnier days, the waterfall creates a rainbow as it splashes into the lake - widely regarded as the most scenic in all of Taiwan.
Houtong was once a rich small mining town in Ruifang, renowned for a well-preserved culture surrounding its railway, which was built during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. During its prosperous years, the area produced around 220,000 tons of coal per year, the largest coal output of a single area in Taiwan. This attracted many immigrants to the area, which further spurred the town's growth to as many as 900 households with a population of more than 6,000 people. The last facility built in the area was a coal purification factory, built in 1920.
As the coal mining industry began to decline in the 1990s, the area also declined. Young residents started to emigrate to look for other opportunities, and eventually only few hundred residents remained once the mining industry had died out.
However, things started taking a turn for the better from 2008, when a local cat lover organized volunteers to start offering abandoned cats a better life. They posted the cats' pictures online, resulting in an overwhelming response from other cat lovers around the nation. Soon, Houtong became a center for cat lovers as word spread, and the number of cats living there increased – thus reviving a declining village, and transforming it into a tourist destination. Some cats are sterilized, and will have one of their ears trimmed as confirmation – this helps to keep check on the local population of cats, and also helps identify new cats which enter into the village.

Travel in Taiwan (2015, 7/8)
Wangyou Valley
The sun is blazing as we arrive at a trail in eastern Keelung that will take us down a hill into Wangyou Valley – a rare sight in what is known as Taiwan’s rainy city. Slowly we descend the steps. Coastal plants cover the edges of the trail, their leaves thick and waxy to retain moisture in the salty sea air. Purple-headed thistles spring up among other wildflowers. White trumpet-nosed blooms cling to the steep cliffs. Bulbuls, white-eyes, babblers, and thrushes duck and weave among the dense thickets. Serpent eagles and goshawks soar above a coast that has been ravaged year after year, century after century by typhoons, monsoon rains, and crashing waves.
Peppered, too, amongst the hills are remnants of Keelung’s military past: pillbox guard posts and fortified lookouts peep from the undergrowth, fighting a losing battle against Mother Nature. After climbing to the top of one of the valley’s several peaks, we see the small fishing harbor of Badouzi on the left beyond, while ahead of us stretches the wide expanse of the East China Sea.
Heping Island
To the northwest of Wangyou Valley lies Heping Island. In 1626, the Spanish arrived on this island, declared it Spanish territory, and built a fortification – Fort San Salvador – on the southwestern side. The fort and any traces of the Spanish on Heping Island have, unfortunately, been largely lost to history, but a small snapshot of the island’s colonial years can be seen in the geo park on its northern side. Much like at nearby Yeliu (with its famous Queen’s Head Rock), the main attractions in the park are the divertingly shaped sandstone rocks along the sea’s edge.
Follow the path around the park and you’ll come across the Cave of Foreign Words, a 20-meter-long natural tunnel that pierces a small headland near the eastern edge of the park. Inside the cave there is, purportedly, some 17th-century graffiti left by the Dutch, who took over Fort San Salvador in the 1640s.
Baimiweng Fort
One of several old fortifications perched upon the hilltops around Keelung, Baimiweng commands a spectacular view of both the harbor and the sea. The small, winding lane that leads to the fort is a bit difficult to find, even for Keelungers, says Wang, who, with a painter’s romantic eye, goes on to compare the challenging ascent up the narrow, twisting road to the journey up to the citadel of Évora Monte in Portugal. Reaching the fortifications, you’re confronted with a spectacular vista and four large semi-circular gun emplacements, each of which was capable in its time of hosting a 5.65-meter-long cannon able to fire a steel shell 8.8 kilometers at enemy battleships. Though the current fortifications date back only to the early 1900s, Wang writes that fortifications have been built on this location since the 17th-century colonial conflicts between the Spanish and the Dutch, a fact attested by the fort’s alternate name, Holland Castle. “From here the night view of the harbor is breathtaking,” Wang writes, “and on the other side, far out to sea, you can see freighters slowly entering the harbor, while further away still you can see the sun setting.”
Central Keelung & Harbor
As a busy, working container port, central Keelung is a churning organism of cranes and freight containers, trundling cargo ships and busy-bee tugboats. The narrow streets and alleys that creep out from the narrow central harbor can become, especially on weekends, breathtakingly crowded – a situation abetted by the fact that the nearby Miaokou Night Market is one of the most famous in Taiwan.

I was so glad to see the Taoyuan International Airport MRT line open earlier this year. This finally brings Taipei in line as far as convenience and access goes, to it’s international airport, with other major cities in East Asia including Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Southeast Asian centers like Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Like most airport trains across Asia they do not operate 24 hours a day so if your flight arrives outside of the 6am to 23:00 train schedule then you’ll have to use a bus, still fairly convenient or catch a taxi.
At NT$160 for a one way ticket the Taoyuan Airport MRT is the bargain of East Asia for airport rail fares.
As I mentioned in the video Taipei Metro offers a number of unlimited passes ranging from 24 hours to 72 hours. These passes are not valid for the airport MRT. If you’d like an unlimited pass that includes a return trip on the airport MRT then purchase the “Joint Ticket” at the airport MRT counter.
At the airport and at Taipei Main Station you can purchase an Easy Card or iPass which you can load up and use on the airport MRT, Taipei Metro, many bus lines and convenience stores.
This video should cover most of your questions regarding travel between the international airport and Taipei Main Station. For more information visit their website:
Taipei Trip - Day 1 i Taipei Service Apartment & SOGO Shopping Malls
What to do in Taipei: Day 1 arriving Taipei, settled in i Taipei Service Apartment. Brief room tour of their Deluxe 2 bedroom apartment with 1 single bed and 1 double bed. It is situated at a very good location with bus station downstairs. Next to Q square shopping mall. Main train station is just across the street with linked underground shopping mall. Easy access to food.
We picked up local breakfast from various food stalls/restaurants near us.
Took subway to SOGO shopping malls. Had our lunch at their famous Din Tai Fung which is just located inside this mall.

TAIWAN TRAVEL SERIES - TAIPEI - HUALIEN - DAY 2
Day 2 of Taiwan Travel Series, i this video, we are traveling from Taipei to Beautiful city Hua Lien.
After waking up, we prepare our self to Hua Lien. First we take breakfast at the Seven eleven just beside the Tomorrow Hotel that we are sleeping in the first day.
After that we checkout and go directly to Taipei Main Station to take our train to Hua Lien. We go 3 hours before our train Schedule, since this is our first time and This part of Taipei Main Station is the other side, so need to search around.
We bought and booked our tickets here and print the tickets from the local Family Mart, you can also print in Seven Eleven.
This train usually full, so better booked in advance, to make sure that you can get seat. The traveling time is around 2 hours, but you can eat and drink inside the train.
After the train arrived, we seat according to the seat number at the tickets. The Train is very comfortable. The space is big and you can also eat and drink inside.
Arrived at Hualien.
*****
Zi Jing Cheng B&B Hotel Review
We choose this hotel because it is high rated at booking.com.
After arrived turns out the hotel is very small, only around 6 rooms inside, that's why it called ZI Jing Cheng Bed and Breakfast.
When you came, make sure that you have the hotel phone number, you need to call before arrive, because usually there are no people inside.
I really like the decoration, especially if you are minion fans. The room also very clean, and you will get freebies like fruit, snacks, cup noodle and drinks. You can also make this your breakfast, like we did.
You will feel like you are living in your own house, it is very rare to meet the owner and other guest. I only meet the owner on day 1, then never meet again, for checkout, we just leave the key in the front office.
The minus point is we need to take stairs to our room at level 2. if you bring big luggage, that would be a problem, especially if you stay at level 3.
I would give 9 out of 10, this is more because of the room and facilities.
*****
After relaxing for 1 hour, we go out and eat at
Dumpling House
The hotel owner recommend this place, since it is famous among the locals.
To be honest this is the best worth of money restaurant, because it is very cheap and delicious. The dumpling and the Pork tasted very good.
I would rate 10/10, this is a must eat place in Hualien, we travel to several place, but i'm sure that this is the no1 restaurant while we are in Taiwan.
*****
We traveled for 8 days and visited several city in Taiwan, from Taipei, Hualien and the Beautiful Qing Jing Farm.
Beside that we will also visited several Tourist Attraction like Taipei101, Xi Men Ding, Raohe Night Market, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Small Swiss Garden, Qing Jing Farm, Sky Ridge Qing Jing, Green Green Grass Land, Taroko Gorge, He Hua San and Many More.
For Food, Taiwan is one of the Food Heaven, especially if you like Pork. You can try Ay-Chung Flour Rice Noodle at Xi Men Ding, Carton King in Qing Jing and The First Din Tai Fung Restaurant.
Even the less known Restaurant also delicious, we will show you several place that i come during the visit to Taiwan.
We also going to give Hotel Review, Food Review, Transport Tips and also several useful tips about Taiwan that you may not know.
