(The Grey Lady) A GHOST Has Been CAPTURED Here At Dudley Castle!
Dudley Castle is regarded as one of the most haunted castles in the World, and perhaps the most haunted in England. There are many spirits that have been reported here throughout hundreds of years. Perhaps the most famous of all the ghosts here is that of the Grey Lady, believed to be the spirit of Dorothy Beaumont.
The ghost of Dorothy can often be seen near the Castle Keep and in the pub that was named after her on the castle grounds, the Grey Lady Tavern. Since opening there have been many reports here, mostly of unexplained sounds, alarms going off in the middle of the night without explanation, and extreme drops in temperature, that’s often accompanied by a strange blue mist that floats through the bar.

Whitehall Mansion Inn
Whitehall Mansion Inn
42 Whitehall Avenue
Mystic, Connecticut 06355
The earliest structure built on the original site of Whitehall Mansion, located in the section of Mystic which is in the town of Stonington, was constructed around 1680 by Lt. William Gallup. A tavern and stagecoach stop stood on the site in the 1750s. Whitehall Mansion, named after an ancestor's home, Whight House, in Essex, England, was built in 1771-1775 by Dr. Dudley Woodbridge . A secret room in the attic may have housed runaway slaves. Dr. Woodbridge died in 1790 and the house was later owned by the Rodman and Wheeler families. The Mansion's last resident, Florence Grace Keach, donated the house to the Stonington Historical Society in 1962 in order to save it from demolition when Interstate-95 was being constructed. The house was moved approximately one hundred yards north and restored. For a time, it was open for tours, but was purchased by the Waterford Hotel Group in 1996 and is now the Whitehall Mansion Inn.
Dr. Dudley Woodbridge was not only a minister of Groton, (his father was actually the first minister of Groton) but also a prominent physician. He also studied theology at Yale and then transferred to Harvard when he earned a degree in 1724. Whitehall Mansion served as his medical office as well as being the family homestead. It was no surprise that Dr. Woodbridge would serve as clergy as he was descended from a long line of ministers dating back to the late 1400's in England.
Dr. Woodbridge along with his wife Sarah (Sheldon) lived in the home along with their nine children: Charlotte, Lucy, Benjamin, Sally (nicknamed Sarah) Samuel, Elizabeth (nicknamed Betsey), Joseph, William and Dudley Jr.
As the years passed all the children entered into marriage and moved away from the home. Lucy was the only Woodbridge child who never married and remained in the home along with Benjamin who passed away in the home at only twelve years old.
Dr. Dudley Woodbridge died on October 4, 1790. During his eulogy he was proclaimed as a man of unblemished morals who lived a life of virtue and piety. His wife Sarah died just six years later in 1796.
Some believe that Lucy and Benjamin still remain earthbound in the home, with Lucy reported as being the main ghost.
Whitehall Mansion now serves as a historic five bedroom inn, with rooms named after some of the Woodbridge children.
The 239 year old Whitehall Mansion is also well known in the community for is reported paranormal activity. Since The Whitehall Mansion was opened to the public in 1965, there have been many claims that the mansion is haunted.
Some people believe that Benjamin and Lucy remained in the Whitehall Mansion, haunting the guests who stay there. Guests have reported the sound of children playing in the rooms, when there were no children checked into the mansion. Other reports include the seeing of dark shadows and ghost-like apparitions, as well as many strange noises.
It has also been reported that several guests who had stayed in the Whitehall Mansion abruptly left in the middle of the night because of haunted activity. Many of the guests that have stayed at the supposedly haunted mansion have recorded their paranormal experiences in journals that are kept in the main sitting area for all to read.
