Cenote Calavera // Temple of Doom // Tulum-Mexico'16
Awesome Dive at Temple of Doom, Cenote Calavera - Tulum, Mexico
The Temple of Doom (cenote Calavera), is completely different from other caverns in the area. The input passes through a circular hole in the rock surface and the adventure begins almost immediately as you have to jump about 3 meters to the water surface. The area of the cave is a huge room with a pile of collapsed sediment and rocks in the center. During the dive, divers make their way around the hill, diving at different depths along the walls of the cenote. There is enough light in the cave and many fossils to be discovered. Look towards the entrance and imagination can recognize the “Skull”. The light passing through holes in the sky creates an effect of two eyes and a mouth. Its awesome to whitness the effects of the halocline where the fresh water mix with the salt water.
Temple Of Doom , Cenote , Mexico
Temple Of Doom Cenote , Mexico . Calavera, which is Spanish for Skull, is the first cenote you come to on the Coba Road 5 minutes from Tulum. The cenote gets its grim name from the 3 circular openings in the roof of the cave that resemble the eye sockets and mouth of a skull when viewed from above. Calavera is also known as Temple of Doom, the name of the cave system that it was once a part of. Sistema Temple of Doom was connected to Sistema Sac Actun in 2007 and is now a part of that gigantic cave system rather than a separate cave system in its own right.

TULUM CENOTES 11/5/16 - The Pit; Dos Ojos; Calavera (Temple of Doom)
The freshwater caves (or cenotes in Spanish), just north of Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula, are truly magnificent, and are perhaps the most memorable dives I've yet made.
When the sunlight streams into the water from the caves' few openings, and refracts in the crystal clear water, the result is simply awe-inspiring. If you only have a minute or so, please go to 10:00 and 11:30 and watch the sunlight dancing though Dos Ojos.
These are SERIOUS caves, and should only be made with an experienced local guide.
The movie features, in order, the Pit and Dos Ojos (Two Eyes), rightfully the two most famous of the hundreds of cenotes, and Calavera (Temple of Doom), by far the most serious cave of the three.
This is my first movie shot with a GoPro 5, and edited with Movavi Video Editor 12.
Music is from the mid-70s progressive country band Calico, recorded live in June, 1975, at the now gone Mine Shaft in Arlington, Texas.

Cavern Diving Calavera Cenote off the Yucatan Peninsula in Tulum Mexico
The second dive during my travels to Tulum was Cenote Calavera (Skull Cave), aka: Temple of Doom. This cavern dive was beautifully lit with three different visible halocline layers. The rich blue and green hues reflecting off the large white rocks and hidden fossils made for a serene experience.
My favorite feature of this cavern was diving through the gorgeous crystal clear waters and hues while dipping in and out of the haloclines. OH ... AND the animal skull fossils we found but my battery died to capture its delicate glory.

En conclusión es un lugar que si vale la pena y si, si puedes tomarte la foto que estabas esperando!

Cenote Calaveras y Punta Laguna.
