Появление этого автомобиля на свет было связано с целой политико-экономической историей. В 1959 году Министерство юстиции США завело против компании General Motors дело о нарушении конкурентного права. Это было связано с тем, что в 1950-е GM подмяла под себя производство карьерных самосвалов в США, правдами или неправдами перекупив или «прижав» конкурентов. В результате длительной тяжбы в 1968 год компании было официально запрещено производить карьерные грузовые автомобили сроком на четыре года. GM вынуждена была свернуть, в частности, бренд Euclid, под которым производились карьерные грузовики, и продать его конкуренту — White Motor Corporation.
Но юристы GM все же сумели обойти запрет. Закрылись только заводы на территории США — канадские и шотландские филиалы продолжили работу. Так как бренд Euclid был продан, GM зарегистрировала в Канаде новый — Terex (от латинских слова terra — земля и rex — король). На существующей технологической базе Euclid была в срочном порядке разработана новая линейка карьерных самосвалов — Terex 33...

We had the amazing opportunity to visit the worlds largest truck!
This big guy is called TITAN! a whopping 350 tons! It held the title of the worlds largest truck for over 25 years now. It was used to haul material around open pit mines. Located in Sparwood.

World's Largest Trucks ~ The Terex 33-19 Titan
The prototype for the Terex 33-19 Titan was built in London, Ontario by the Terex Division of General Motors in 1973. At the time, it was the world's largest and highest capacity haul truck - a distinction it held for 25 years. The Titan was first unveiled in October 1974 at the American Mining Congress in Las Vegas. Following this, it provided service until 1991 - first at Eagle Mountain, California and then in Sparwood, British Columbia, where it would spend the majority of its years of service. Today, it still resides in Sparwood where it is now a tourist attraction, sitting directly off of the #3 Highway.
The 33-19 Titan was slated to be in production by 1976 with a cost of 1.5 million dollars. However, due to various economic factors in the mining industry at the time, the Titan never made it to production. The prototype 33-19 Titan was the only unit of the model ever built.
It is 25' 7 wide, 66' 9 long, and stands at 22' 7 in height. It had a payload capacity of 318,000 kg or 700,000 lbs. It would take until 1998 before any truck would have a greater payload capacity than this. The 33-19 Titan was powered by a 16 cylinder, 10,320-cubic-inch (169.1 L) diesel engine capable of producing a gross horsepower of 3300. It had a top speed of 48 km/hr (30 mph).

Trying to do a walkaround of the massive Terex Titan. It was the first of the Ultra Class haulers sadly there weren't any shovels or loaders that could match it properly. It was parked when a crack developed in one of the axle housings and was deemed to expensive to fix luckily it was put on public display in Sparwood, B.C., Canada for everybody to enjoy. And since companies like Cat have come out with bigger trucks I call it the worlds largest tandem. Sorry if its hard to hear me in the video it was kinda windy and my camera's microphone kinda sucks.

The stats for the Titan were all world records at the time of production. It was the tallest and had the highest carrying capacity of any truck. At 22 ft 7 in (6.88 m) four full grown men would have to stand on each others heads just to peak over the top. Fully loaded it weighs over 1 million pounds. The diesel engine is 10,343-cu.in., has 16-cylinders and puts out 3,300 horsepower. its tires alone are 12 ft. tall. All this and the top speed, when full, was under 30 mph.( google facts)
