I have been in Japan now for a bit over 20 years. My interest in Japan started with Origami when I was 5 years old and after coming here in High School, I just could not stop coming back. I have enjoyed traveling all over Japan and studying many of the traditional arts such as Kimono, Tea Ceremony, Kendo and Kyudo. The more I see and learn the more I come to understand how much more there is to find out about. Japan really is a wonderful place to visit or live. I hope these videos give a taste of what one can do here, encourage those that have yet to visit, and give new ideas for people looking to try something new and interesting here. Yokoso!

Kobe City's new statue Tetsujin-28 go
Today, my wife and I visited Kobe City's new 60 foot (18m) manga statue of the famous character, Tetsujin-28 go, or Ironman, originally created by the late Mitsuteru Yokoyama who was born in Nagata. The project cost ¥135 million ($1.4 million) which was mostly raised from private funding.
It's located in Wakamatsu Park, Shin Nagata which can be reached from the central station of Sannomiya. Shin Nagata is 2 stops after Kobe Station. Come out on the seaside exit, turn right and walk until you see the park on the left.
Today, there was still some site work going on but it will be officially open this Sun., Oct. 4.
It is intended as a symbol of the city's revival after the 1995 Kobe Earthquake.

I was passing through Kobe on my way from Himeji to Osaka, so figured I'd stop by for a bit to see the robot in person.
I meant to arrive during daylight hours, but didn't that plan well enough . . . but the night shots look great!
I'll have a few more pics up soon, along with directions on how to find it.

This afternoon while running, I stopped close to Shinnagata Station in Kobe to look at a statue I see everyday from the train. It is an 18m tall Tetsujin 28(鉄人28号) or Gigantor, a famous Japanese anime character. It was pretty cool and drew a large crowd.
This is a project aimed at increasing tourism to an area of Kobe that was hardest hit by the 1995 earthquake.
