A day at Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, England.
Dubbed the ‘Windsor of the North,’ Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in the country and has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percys, for over 700 years.
Combining magnificent medieval architecture with sumptuous Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations and best days out in Northumberland.
The Castle’s rich history is brimming with drama, intrigue and extraordinary people; from a gunpowder plotter and visionary collectors, to decadent hosts and medieval England’s most celebrated knight: Harry Hotspur.
In recent years it has also taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, featuring as the magnificent Brancaster Castle in Downton Abbey and previously appearing as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films. It has previously been a location used in Becket, Blackadder; Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Ivanhoe, and many others listed in the Location section of the Alnwick Castle website.
The lavish Italian Renaissance style interiors of the State Rooms are contained like a jewel within Alnwick Castle’s magnificent fortified exterior. Originally remodelled as a family home by the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, and beautifully restored in the 19th Century, these luxurious interiors are a vision to behold.
The State Rooms are filled with one of the country’s finest private art and furniture collections, including work by Canaletto, Titian, Van Dyck, Turner, and Dobson; an extensive gallery of Meissen, Chelsea, and Paris porcelain; and the priceless Cucci cabinets, originally created for Louis XIV of France at the Palace of Versailles. From the windows of each room, the castle's grounds can be admired, and beyond them, the landscape created by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.

We went on a road trip to Edinburgh, Scotland!
The next stop in our MNR Road Trip For Change: Edinburgh, Scotland! We have so much content prepared for you guys and are so excited to share our Europe Tour of England, Scotland and France with you guys. We left off with London, England and went to Scotland for two days before going to England again to explore some other cities. Scotland included the amazing Edinburgh, along with the highlands which we can't wait to share with you all as well!
Edinburgh was very different from London. It has a unique architectural style with a darker outlook because of the different materials they used for their buildings, but it is beautiful none-the-less. We saw key attractions like the Scott's Monument, Edinburgh Castle, the National Gallery of Scotland and more on our hop-on, hop-off tour bus.
Since we only had one full day in Edinburgh we had to make the most of it, and this vlog will show you how to make the most of your time in Edinburgh, as well! We share travel tips while show you the true culture of Edinburgh from the kilt-clad people to the delicious Handmade Scottish Shortbread.
Whether you have already planned your trip to Scotland or are planning to go one day, this video will provide some insight as to what Scotland and Edinburgh especially have to offer. It's a great city to visit and we definitely recommend visiting it, along with London and Oxford which were two of the other stops in our Road Trip for Change.
As part of this cultural diversity series, we have already reached our third stop and the vast variety of cultures even within the United Kingdom is so inspiring. Our Europe tour is just the beginning and we can't wait to share our complete tour of England, Scotland and France with you guys in the upcoming weeks. Ragroof Theatre at Alnwick Garden
Ragroof Theatre perform 'Shall We Dance?' at The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland, the work was accompanied by reminiscence sessions held at local homes and with groups at the garden. A series of dance workshops, incorporating local participants into beginning and end scenes of the show were also held with 'The Elderberries' group (based at the garden). They perform to a specially devised soundtrack incorporating the voices of people who provided their reminiscences. Local school children performed a dance routine at the end of the event devised and taught in a series of workshops led by Ragroof.

Joshua Reynolds and Fashion
In October we invited 14 young people aged between 14 and 19 years to come in and work with Chocolate Films, Wallace Collection educators and curators and the Geffrye Museum to create four short films about Joshua Reynolds to form part of our upcoming exhibition Joshua Reynolds: Experiments in Paint opening in March 2015.
The project was a unique opportunity for young people to gain real digital skills as well as learning invaluable skills in team working, public speaking and confidence building.
