Detailed Biography of San Diego Trade Show Magician James Brandon:
Long before he became a trade show magician, James Brandon’s sister presented him with a starter magic set for his twelfth birthday. At the time she had no idea that it would inevitably lead to his professional career as a comedy magician, illusionist, emcee and actor.
His high-tech magic show gained him immediate success in Europe as he became the youngest variety artist to headline at the famed Alcazar de Paris. He concluded his 28th tour of Europe with a Command Performance for the Royal Family of Monaco.
Among the most prestigious Medals and Grand Prizes bestowed upon James are the Siegfried and Roy “Golden Lion Award” he received in Las Vegas, the World Magic Olympics Medal he won in Japan and the “Golden Mandrake”, presented in Paris.
U.S. appearances at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall sparked interest from 20th Century Fox who then hired James to turn Oscar winner Joe Pesci, into a “magician”, for the hit film, “My Cousin Vinny”.
6 South American tours supported by 23 television appearances resulted in his being featured on Univision’s “Best of Sabado Gigante” seen by 170 million people worldwide. The success of that one appearance led to James starring in the widely viewed American TV magic Specials, “The Great Magic of Las Vegas” for the Fox Family channel.
Naturally James relocated to Las Vegas where he went on to headline in 7 long running shows as emcee, comedy magician and illusionist, including “Splash” at the Riviera and “Imagine” at the Luxor.
James’ Magic and Grand Illusion show then toured Asia 7 times finishing off at Genting, a 2000 seat theater in Malaysia, where he sold out 2 shows a night for six straight months.
If James’ face seems familiar it might be due to the fact that for 3 years he was the pitch - magician for “IcyHot – Vanishing Scent” on their national TV commercials.
With the exception of a few select yearly appearances on television or in Las Vegas James currently dedicates all of his focus as a magician for trade shows.

Start A New Life Free Of Liberals With “Conservative Move” (HBO)
You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends. And if they start to vote differently than you, some families are willing to pick up, leave and find new friends. Sick of states that permit legal marijuana? Same-sex marriages? Laws that permit transgender people to use the bathroom of their choice? What if there were a better way?
Last year, VICE News went to McKinney, Texas to check out Conservative Move - a real estate company that says it has the solution to living a life free of liberals. They’ll try to find you a place to live, a job with a decent wage, and the best schools for your children, in Texas or any other Republican stronghold.

Driving Downtown - Hollywood 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Neighborhoods - Hollywood - Los Angeles California USA - Episode 17.
Starting Point: Hollywood Boulevard .
Hollywood is an ethnically diverse, densely populated, relatively low-income neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California. It is notable as the home of the U.S. film industry, including several of its historic studios, and its name has come to be a shorthand reference for the industry and the people in it.
Hollywood was a small community in 1870 and was incorporated as a municipality in 1903. It was consolidated with the city of Los Angeles in 1910, and soon thereafter a prominent film industry emerged, eventually becoming the most recognizable film industry in the world.
Motion Picture Industry
Four major film companies – Paramount, Warner Bros., RKO, and Columbia – had studios in Hollywood, as did several minor companies and rental studios. In the 1920s, Hollywood was the fifth-largest industry in the nation.
Hollywood became known as Tinseltown because of the glittering image of the movie industry. Hollywood has since become a major center for film study in the United States.
Development
In 1923, the Hollywood sign was erected in the Hollywood Hills, reading HOLLYWOODLAND, its purpose being to advertise a housing development. In 1949, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce entered a contract with the City of Los Angeles to repair and rebuild the sign. The contract stipulated that LAND be removed to spell HOLLYWOOD and reflect the district, not the housing development.
During the early 1950s, the Hollywood Freeway was constructed through the northeast corner of Hollywood.
The Capitol Records Building on Vine Street, just north of Hollywood Boulevard, was built in 1956, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame was created in 1958 as a tribute to artists and other significant contributors to the entertainment industry. The official opening was on February 8, 1960.
The Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
The Dolby Theatre, which opened in 2001 as the Kodak Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center mall, is the home of the Oscars. The mall is located where the historic Hollywood Hotel once stood.
Revitalization
After years of serious decline in the 1980s, many Hollywood landmarks were threatened with demolition. Columbia Square, at the northeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Gower Street, is part of the ongoing rebirth of Hollywood. The Art Deco-style studio complex completed in 1938, which was once the Hollywood headquarters for CBS, became home to a new generation of broadcasters when cable television networks MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Spike TV consolidated their offices here in 2014 as part of a $420-million office, residential and retail complex. Since 2000, Hollywood has been increasingly gentrified due to revitalization by private enterprise and public planners.

Meet The Fleet - 1940
A Pre-War (1940) - A Warner Brothers short film about 3 recruits who land in Navy boot camp in San Diego: Potter from Kansas, wealthy Benson (who has experience with yachts), and dirt-poor Dan. Kansas gets in trouble for not having his cover. Dan has color-vision problems. The company is sent on a training mission to Hawaii, though Dan is sent instead to the Medical Officer, apparently to be discharged, which plunges him into despair. But the Navy isn't quite done with Dan.
Familiar story, but some recognizable stars that make it worth sitting through. The film follows three recruits (George Reeves, Herbert Anderson, William T. Orr) as they go through basic training and have to deal with their Petty Officer (Robert Armstrong). Reeves is best known for SUPERMAN and Armstrong for KING KONG so there are two familiar faces that film buffs will want to see but outside of that this film doesn't have too much going for it. Even by 1940, this type of story was pretty drawn out to the point where people would be scratching their heads and asking for something original. Once again, Armstrong is playing that moron that he played in countless films. I love seeing him but he just doesn't have much to do here.
The Technicolor is the one saving grace and there's a great scene in a library where the colors really jump off the screen.

Speaking Out Against Bullying | Carmen Sandiego: Fearless Kids Around the World
Incorporate social-emotional activities and lesson plans with a new web series: Fearless Kids Around the World. Carmen Sandiego™ introduces students to fearless kids around the world who are making a change and highlights social-emotional competencies they've implemented, like self-awareness skills, based on the CASEL framework for SEL.
In this episode, #CarmenSandiego takes us to the United States of America to introduce us to Devin Moore. The diversity in this country gives us many reasons to celebrate the things that make us unique, which is what one fearless kid is trying to do. Devin is from Long Island, New York, and he loves to write poetry. But when he was 14, kids at his school started to bully him, taunting him online and at school. Devin decided to stand up to his bullies and started a campaign called #racetospeakup to help other kids dealing with bullies. Then, he took his message on the road, speaking about bullying to others around the country. He also supports kids dealing with bullies online and is a part of a task force working to get anti-bullying information out to schools.

Michael Grandinetti Talks About Master of Illusion Live at Harrah's Casino on San Diego Living
Illusionist Michael Grandinetti visits the San Diego Living morning show (with fellow guests Nicole Kidman and Jaleel White) to talk about the Masters of Illusion Live tour that is currently in town for a performance at Harrah's Resort Southern California. Michael also performed a fun piece of sleight of hand magic with host Marc Bailey. Masters of Illusion is the largest touring magic production in the country and season 2 of Masters of Illusion on The CW begins in summer 2015.
Michael Grandinetti is not your ordinary magician.
With performances on national and international television, in stadiums, arenas, casinos, and theaters around the country, with symphony orchestras, for Fortune 500 companies, and even at The White House, Michael has made a name for himself around the world as an extremely talented and innovative illusionist. Over the past 20 years, Michael has strived to make magic contemporary and to give it a wide, mainstream appeal while taking his magic in new and daring directions. He has been featured on NBC’s “The World’s Most Dangerous Magic II”, CW’s “Masters of Illusion”, “Entertainment Tonight”, “SportsCenter”, New York Today, FOX & Friends, “The Bold and the Beautiful”, Crook & Chase, and The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.
Possessing a true passion for amazing live audiences, Michael has performed at Heinz Hall with Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Symphony, Grand Central Station in New York City, Navy Pier in Chicago, John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, the Four Seasons Resort in Lanai, Hawaii, on the red carpet of ESPN's ESPY Awards in Hollywood, and at The White House Easter Celebration. Last year, Michael was honored to be the first illusionist ever invited to perform in America’s Independence Day Parade in Washington DC. During this national celebration of our country, Michael levitated a girl high above one of the floats as it moved down Constitution Avenue, in front of a live audience of 250,000 people.
Michael was also one of the headlining performers in “Masters of Magic”, a large-scale production show which ran nightly for two months at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, in Reno, Nevada, on what is the world's largest indoor stage
Michael's personality and style were introduced to the world when he performed his original creation “The Spike Tower” on the NBC television special “The World’s Most Dangerous Magic II”. While covered with a mixture of gasoline and kerosene and secured by chains, Michael had only sixty seconds to escape before two walls of flaming steel spikes were thrust towards him at over 50mph. Bringing together seven illusionists from around the world, at just 21, Michael was the youngest performer on the show.
In the 2014 CW television series “Masters of Illusion”, hosted by Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Hit The Floor), Michael was featured, in five episodes, with his original grand illusions. Also during the show, special guest Ace Young, star of American Idol and Hair on Broadway, assisted Michael onstage for his “Walking Through Steel” illusion.
In addition, Michael has created and developed custom presentations for Fortune 500 companies and major corporations including Mazda, Hewlett Packard, Grainger, Ernst & Young, The American Marketing Association, Harley-Davidson, Rite Aid, and Bayer.
As a respected Creative Consultant, Michael has taught sleight of hand magic to the actors on the CBS Daytime Drama The Bold and the Beautiful, consulted on a national commercial featuring magic for the United States Treasury, and provided historical information for “Spellbound”, a biographical book on famed illusionist Doug Henning. His original illusion designs have been featured around the world, including stage productions in Japan, Korea, and Italy. Michael was even called about the possibility of making Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, magically appear – before it was built!
Michael Grandinetti is making the ancient art of magic charismatic and contemporary. By blurring the line between illusion and reality in a groundbreaking yet personable way, Michael gives the audience an engaging, entertaining, one of a kind experience they will not forget.

Steve Hill - Performance
They say if you want to start an argument, talk about religion or politics. Where should we start first?
Born in poverty on St Louis' north side, progressive atheist comedian Steve Hill has acquired a lifetime of experience in what it's like to grow up in America as an African American male.
After graduating high school in 1979, Steve continued in his father and brothers' footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps. He served for 5 years, becoming a Sergeant, and moved to Los Angeles to work in the aerospace industry. 7 years later, he became restless for a more exciting endeavor and joined the California Department of Corrections (CDC). He gained insight into the system by working at 2 maximum security prisons for 10 years.
Due to a slight disagreement with the CDC, Steve was retrained as a Real Estate Appraiser. He founded his own company, Anaverde Appraisal, in the Antelope Valley (in northern LA county) during the real estate boom of the early 2000's.
The mortgage meltdown and Wall Street corruption cemented his decision to speak for those in the middle class with no voice, lobbyist or advocacy group. With an extremely keen sense of humor, he hits the stage with a stand up performance that enables people to see relevant issues from a very funny, but
drastically different, perspective.
Along with the 2013 PA State Atheist Humanist Conference, Steve's freethought performances this year include the American Atheist Convention in Austin,Texas, NAPCON 2013 in San Francisco and the 2013 Lobby Day & Secular Summit.
Texan Italian Monthly - Italians in San Diego
Today’s Blog post marks the beginning of the Texan Italian Monthly. A monthly newsletter where we will bring you nice stories about Italian culture from a Texan Italian perspective.
Some stories of the Texan Italian Monthly will be about other Italian communities that Texan Italians should know about; while other stories will be about Texan Italians individuals, organizations, and companies.
Today’s story is about the Italian community of the beautiful city of San Diego, a city we recently visited for a work trip. While we were there, we hooked up with the wonderful Victor Laruccia, a person very active in the community, who invited us to attend the monthly gathering that happens one Sunday a month at the House of Italy. The House of Italy is a really nice building located at the beautiful Balboa Park, which has been a meeting point for Italians, Italian Americans and Italian enthusiasts since 1935.
I have to say that we were amazed by the warm hospitality we received at House of Italy. Everyone there was extremely nice and made us feel really welcomed. We were also very pleased that many of them had watched our Texan Italian Stories series!! I have to admit I felt a bit like a celebrity. = )
There were different people presenting different things that day. One presentation was about the San Diego Italian Film Festival, an event that is now on its 10th year and has been very important for the community at House of Italy and the entire Italian American community of the United States. It is by far the biggest and most organized film festival focused on Italian films that exists in our country. We met Antonio, the festivals creative director and his right hand, Diana, both some of the most passionate people that we have met. They told us many things about the festival that you can check out in the video.
Another guest speaker that evening was Dr. Joe Pasquale who is a professor at the University of California in San Diego in the Engineering and Computer Science department. He gave an amazing presentation about Roman engineering, and showed the audience how some of the most iconic Roman structures such as the Pantheon and the Colosseum where made. He also explained how the passion and knowledge that Romans had for geometry played a crucial role in the building of structures that are still standing in Italy, some of them for more than 2000 years old!!
All in all it was a great experience and we encourage all Texan Italians to reach out to these guys and to plan on attending the San Diego Italian Film Festival in October. I would like to personally thank all the kind people from the House of Italy and especially Victor Laruccia for inviting us and introducing the Texan Italian Stories to San Diego.
If you are wondering what happened to the subtitles. .. the answer is simple... We really want you to learn Italian!! :)
That means we are making the script available for you download and read. This will allow you to improve your Italian and it is a simple but effective method that we have successfully tried with the ITAL education videos that are implemented in Italian classes at the University of Texas. We highly recommend you try it.
Download the script for only $2,99

Contact us if you have any stories you want to share and feel are important to the Texan Italian community!!!

Earl Stephen Bishop[1] (born November 14, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and guitarist. His biggest hits include On and On, It Might Be You and Save It for a Rainy Day. He has appeared in and contributed musically to many motion pictures including National Lampoon's Animal House.
Bishop was born and raised in San Diego, California, and attended Will C. Crawford High School.[2] Originally a clarinetist, he persuaded his brother to buy him a guitar after seeing the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show.[3] In 1967, he formed his first group, the Weeds, a British Invasion-styled band.[4]
After the Weeds folded, Bishop moved to Los Angeles in search of a solo recording contract.[4] During a lean eight-year period, where he was rejected by nearly every label and producer,[5] he continued to write songs, eventually landing a $50-a-week job with a publishing house.[3]
Bishop's break came when a friend, Leah Kunkel, gave Art Garfunkel one of Bishop's demonstration cassettes. Garfunkel chose two of his songs, Looking for the Right One and The Same Old Tears on a New Background, to record for the platinum album Breakaway.[5] Via Garfunkel's patronage, Bishop finally secured a recording contract with ABC Records in 1976.[4]

The film tells the story of a talented but volatile actor whose reputation for being difficult forces him to adopt a new identity as a woman in order to land a job. The film was adapted by Larry Gelbart, Barry Levinson (uncredited), Elaine May (uncredited) and Murray Schisgal from the story by Gelbart and Don McGuire.
The film was a major critical and financial success, the second most profitable film of 1982, and was nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture; Lange was the only winner, for Best Supporting Actress.
In 1998, the Library of Congress deemed the film culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
The theme song, It Might Be You, was performed by Stephen Bishop, with music by Dave Grusin and lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. It was a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and hit No. 1 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart

Racism in German and American Cinema of the Twenties: From The Ancient Law to The Jazz Singer
Yale University professor and filmmaker Charles Musser explores the historical and contemporary perspectives of race relations in German and American cinema from the 1920s by examining The Ancient Law (1923) and The Jazz Singer (1927). He evaluates how each film addresses anti-Semitism as well as the burning question of the history of blackface as a theatrical convention. Recorded on 10/24/2019. [12/2019] [Show ID: 35016]
