Liverpool Attack Man City on and off the pitch3 0 Disgraceful scenes as Liverpool fans attack Manc
Liverpool issued an unreserved apology after condemning supporters for attacking the Manchester City team bus with bottles, cans, flares and firecrackers as it arrived at Anfield ahead of their Champions League tie. City were forced to source a new coach to take Pep Guardiola and his squad home to Manchester after the original bus was no longer deemed roadworthy as a result of the damage caused.
In disgraceful scenes that were also deplored by Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, the front window of the bus was smashed as well as the driver’s door after being peppered by missiles. No one inside the bus was hurt.
The incident raised questions about Liverpool and Merseyside Police’s decision to issue a tweet broadcasting changes to the route the buses were taking to the ground.
Liverpool vowed to work with Merseyside Police and the authorities to root out the culprits, with City hoping those responsible will be prosecuted. Uefa, who took pictures of the damaged bus, could also launch an investigation.
Klopp condemned the behaviour. “We tried everything to avoid a situation like that. When we came through it was obviously very positive. From Liverpool FC all I can do is say sorry.”
In a statement, Liverpool said: “The club condemns in the strongest possible terms the scenes which preceded our Champions League quarter-final, which resulted in damage being inflicted on the Manchester City team bus during their arrival at Anfield.
“We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials caught up in the incident. The behaviour of a number of individuals was completely unacceptable and the club will cooperate fully with the authorities to identify those responsible.
“The priority now is to establish the facts and offer Manchester City whatever support is necessary.”
Pep Guardiola, who had expressed hope on Tuesday that Liverpool fans would behave in the correct manner, spoke of his relief that no one was injured.
“We didn't expect that,” the City manager said. “Fortunately, nothing happened to the players. I know it was not Liverpool.”
Liverpool supporters have made a tradition of lining the streets to greet the team buses ahead of big games and City are known to have expressed “serious concerns” to police before the game.
In the hours before City’s arrival, Merseyside Police had announced that the City and Liverpool team buses were being rerouted. Instead of taking their usual route past the King Harry pub, fans were told they would instead travel along Arkles Lane, passing the Arkles pub, before turning right onto Anfield Road due to building works elsewhere.
Red flares were also let off as the coach approached the ground despite warnings to supporters that they face prosecution if they used pyrotechnics.

UK: Liverpool fans go ballistic after Origi's last minute header brings victory

Fans watching Liverpool FC face off against Everton were jumping for joy after Divock Origi scored a bizarre last-minute header in the 96th minute of play on Sunday.
Footage shows the fans singing and jumping around the pub in Liverpool after the goal was scored.
You know what, one chance, that's all it takes to win three points and in 96 minutes, Divock Origi scores what must be the fluke of the season, one fan said.
Origi's goal handed Liverpool a 1-0 victory over Everton, after the ball bounced off Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford's hands and back into play, where Origi was able to head it in.
