A Bedouin Family
This Bedouin family living in a tent on the southern outskirts of Aleppo, Syria, emigrated from the ancient city of Palmyra in search of water for their flock. Water is getter scarcer and scarcer for many families living in the drier parts of Syria. So far, only few families have had to resort to such drastic measure to cope. But this year has been particularly bad, and has had a negative impact on a variety of agricultural products, especially wheat, paving way for a bread crisis that continues to plague the country, which until a few months ago was actually exporting wheat.

YALLA 2019 // A MONTH BACKPACKING EGYPT & JORDAN & SCUBA DIVING THE RED SEA
Egypt - Red Sea - Jordan
I finally finished up a lil project from my time in Egypt ???????? & Jordan ???????? this past September.
I was a bit skeptical on how the whole trip was gunna play out but of course it surpassed all expectations over and over again.
It’s no Spielberg production ???? but from the camels ???? & pyramids to the sharks???? & shipwrecks⛵️ I think it gives a better picture of what the trip was like. Hope you all enjoy. Love to hear your thoughts and favorite clips.
I started the trip from Cairo backpacking down the Nile for the first couple weeks before I headed to the Red Sea. I then hopped on a liveaboard from the Egyptian coast and sailed around the Red Sea scuba diving before breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the following week. Next, I flew over to Jordan for about a week to see the Dead Sea, Petra, and my favorite, the absolutely incredible Wadi Rum. The last leg started with a ferry back over to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt where I hung in Dahab for a couple days and finished the trip camping & scuba diving off the tip of the Sinai Peninsula before making my way back home. Absolutely incredible trip, many new friends, and plenty of great memories.
Yalla - a common Arabic expression used on the trip meaning lets go!!!!!

The Bedouin Way
The nomadic Bedouin tribes in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula deal with the privatization and government control over the land they once roamed free on for thousands of years. While tourism and globalization change the population's economic structure, the struggle ensues to hold on to the culture and traditions they so highly regard.

Goma is the organizer of the Bedouin Cleanup in Dahab.
His vision is to keep Dahab clean and for this vision he works hard and without earning money. But he helps some Bedouins to earn a the couple of Egyptian pound. Because it is not just that he is taking care of the environment it is also that he wants to help some people without work to earn some money.
For this I get Sponsoring by some Diving Center. but also he pays the transportation he pays the t he pays the rubbish bags.
So Joe Omar is actually working for nothing - just for his dream.
wirst du wischen includes all so to go in the schools and to educate the children to handle the rubbish in a good way. To throw it in the trash bin and not in the street. But this is still a long long way.
Until now he needs hence and some money to run his Project. So if you want to help in one or in the other way check out his Facebook page.

Bedouin women lead tours in Sinai
(10 Apr 2019) LEADIN
Four Bedouin women are for the first time leading tours in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, breaking new ground in their deeply conservative community.
The women guide groups of female tourists through the stunning mountain landscapes.
STORYLINE
Amid a stunning vista of desert mountains, a Bedouin woman, Umm Yasser, guides tourists across the rocky terrain.
She is breaking new ground among the deeply conservative Bedouin of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
Women among the Bedouin almost never work outside the home, and even more rarely do they interact with outsiders.
But, Umm Yasser is one of four women from the community who are for the first time working as tour guides.
It is the first time I have led a group of women, she says.
The 47-year-old was the first to join as a guide.
She says she started hiking as a child and knows the mountains and the valley by heart.
She convinced the families of three other women to allow them to work as guides too.
Her tribe is a poor one, so getting paid is an incentive to work.
There are a lot of women who have needs, for instance there are women who want to send her children to school or who want to buy a washing machine or a fridge or buy anything else - they can all make money working in tourism, she explains.
Sinai Trail is a unique project in which local Bedouin tribes came together with the aim to develop their own tourism.
Founded in 2015, the project set up a 550-kilometre (330 mile) trail through the remote mountains of the peninsula.
At first only three Bedouins tribes took part, but now guides come from eight tribes.
The project has been successful in bringing some income to the groups, who often complain of being left out of the major tourism development of the southern Sinai, home to beach resorts and desert safaris.
Until now, all the project's guides were men.
There are no other tribes doing this except us in the Hamada tribe, explains Umm Yasser.
The Hamada is one of the smallest, oldest and poorest tribes.
Others say this is wrong and other tribes will make fun of us, but I don't care. I'm a strong woman and doing nothing wrong so I don't care about what others say.
There are some conditions for tourists taking part in these tours: tourists can only be women, and the tours can't go overnight.
Each day before the sun sets, the group returns to the Hamada's home village in Wadi Sahu, a narrow desert valley.
The organizers also urge the tourists to photograph the guides only when they are wearing full veils over their faces that cover even their eyes with mesh.
Julie Patterson is a facilitator for Sinai Trail who often works with Bedouin women.
She says the response to a women only group has been amazing.
It is obviously something people want and it's a historic moment for the Sinai trail, because it is something that hasn't been done before, she says.
Ben Hoffler, the British co-founder of the Sinai Trail, says it is important to show Bedouin women's understanding of the landscape.
Everybody who has worked in a frontline role on the Sinai trail has been a man so we felt that if the situation was like that it was only half of the Sinai that was represented, he says.
It is a culturally conservative society so it has to be done in a very sensitive, respectful way, he adds.
While male Bedouin guides venture further from home, the women tend to move closer and they have a rich knowledge of the surrounding mountains.

Dahab Egypt Hafla 2003
Our annual Hafla in Sindbad Camp, Dahab, Egypt
More Info:
Since the end of the last century I have organized a party for the children from Masbath, our neighborhood!
The Arabic word for party is Hafla and a Hafla it is.
It started as a housewarming party for some of the neighbors children, in the house Karin and I rented in Masbath; that one was such great fun, that in the following years we held more Hafla’s, and when the Hafla became too big, we moved the Hafla to Marine Garden Camp, and following this, we all moved to Sindbad Camp and the Hafla followed us.
The whole year, every day, every time they see me, the children ask me, when the Sindbad Camp Hafla is? Always, and always, I have to say “Later, Badeen, Inshallah” Only on one day of the year I can truly say “Tomorrow, Bokra, El Hamdullellah” just too a few children, and the fun and excitement begins.
The result you can see on the videos of some of the Hafla’s
The playing of past Hafla videos, is an important part of the Sindbad Camp Hafla, the children always love to see themselves, their brothers and sisters and friends, from previous years, and now the smaller children can see their own mums and dads doing the same things they are doing now, when they were once children, at a Sindbad Camp Hafla.
The actual Sindbad Camp Hafla lasts about 2hr 30mins, but the fun and memories last forever, I am blessed that I can be a part of it, and I am sure that all of our friends and guests of Sindbad Camp, who helped make the Sindbad Camp Hafla’s such a success, feel the same way.
Enjoy!!!
