30 Things to do in Cape Town, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Today we’re taking you around one of our favourite cities: Cape Town, South Africa.
We first visited Cape Town in 2015 as the final stop on a monthlong trip across South Africa. However, by the time we arrived, we only had a couple of days to spare and the weather was less than ideal, so we didn’t get to see very much.
We knew we had to return to do the city justice and also film a proper Cape Town travel guide for you guys. This time around, we gave ourselves a full week to spare.
Our days were packed with sightseeing, and with visits to restaurants, chocolate shops, wineries and gin distilleries, so without further delay, let us show you 30 things do in Cape Town, South Africa.
And that’s a wrap for our week in Cape Town, South Africa. We hope you enjoyed following along and that this guide gave you a few ideas of things to see, do and eat in Cape Town. As always, if you have any other suggestions for fellow travellers, feel free to share those in the comments below. In the meantime, wishing you happy travels and see you next time!
This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture and South African cuisine.

Stoked Backpackers is one of Cape Town's best beach hostels. With amazing views overlooking Surfers' Corner and False Bay, we are 100 metres away from Muizenberg Beach. Located 25km from the city centre, this popular swimming beach is a blue flag beach, which means it gets top marks for safety, cleanliness and amenities. The beach break produces consistent waves, making it a hot spot for surfing, kitesurfing and SUPing. In fact, Muizenberg is one of the World’s Best Surf Towns, according to National Geographic, who say, “A great surf town is the nearly magical sum of consistent waves, inviting accommodation, friendly locals, fun nightlife, delicious food, and plenty of activities should the ocean go flat.”
Stoked Backpackers’ three-storey building has spacious rooms – all en-suite! – and offers a variety of shared dorm accommodation, as well as some private family/friends rooms.
Our communal room has an unbeatable view for watching the lines roll in, or the sunrise (if you’re up for it). We’ve got an awesome cafe where you can get a great cup of coffee, tasty bites and hang out with other travellers and locals.
We’ll definitely make sure you get the most out of Muizenberg and surrounds. Visit our activity centre for all the intel on what to do. On the water, there’s surfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddling. If you don’t know how to do any of those, this is the perfect place to learn. There’s also boat tours that take you whale watching. For under the water, there’s scuba diving where you can cage dive with the great white sharks or free diving with much friendlier ones. Of course, there’s lots to do on land: it’s the perfect place to start your peninsula tour, foray into the Cape Winelands or climb, walk or hike our unique fynbos-covered mountains.
Rooms
Crisp, fresh percale linen, thick spring mattresses and comfy duvets await you. Bathroom towels are supplied with private rooms and can be rented for the dorms. To save you from the wrapped-in-towel hallway dash, almost all the rooms have an en-suite bathrooms. There is free unlimited wifi, not only in the communal areas, but in all the rooms too. We also have digital safes in the private rooms and lockers in the dorms.
Reception desk is open from 8am to 8pm. If you are arriving after 8pm or before 8am, please let us know in advance.

This became one of the biggest viral videos of 2016.
This is not our usual kids content and Gabe and Garrett did not go on this trip, this video is from my trip to Guadalupe Island (I'm their dad).
On a recent great white shark cage diving trip we experienced a very rare horrifying shark encounter event, a shark breaching the side of the cage. What might appear to be an aggressive great white shark trying to attack the cage, this is not the case. These awesome sharks are biting at large chunks of tuna tied to a rope. When a great white shark lunges and bites something, it is temporarily blinded. They also cannot swim backwards. So this shark lunged at the bait, accidentally hit the side of the cage, was most likely confused and not able to swim backwards, it thrust forward and broke the metal rail of the cage. There was a single diver inside the cage. He ended up outside the bottom of the cage, looking down on two great white sharks. The diver is a very experienced dive instructor, remained calm, and when the shark thrashed back outside the cage, the diver calmly swam back up and climbed out completely uninjured. The boat crew did an outstanding job, lifting the top of the cage, analyzing the frenzied situation, and the shark was out after a few long seconds. Everyone on the boat returned to the cages the next day, realizing this was a very rare event. The boat owner, captain, and crew are to be commended for making what could've been a tragic event into a happy ending. I'm sure God and luck had a bit to do with it too!
I want to return next year for another great white shark adventure!
FYI, being a kids channel, bad language in the comments gets caught in the filter.
Update based on comments:
1. Crew knows there's a diver in the cage, it's passengers asking if anyone is in there.
2. Shark had very minor injury and is confirmed okay.
3. These tour operators work with the gov't, non-profit agencies, sanctuaries, marine biologists for the good of the sharks.
4. Cage design and bait techniques are being reviewed and changes made if necessary to ensure safety for sharks and divers.
5. 'Leave the sharks alone' got them on the endangered species list because poachers won't leave them alone.
6. No video footage from diver.
7. If you want your post read, don't cuss because it will be auto-filtered.

Thank you for watching this ultimate Kenyan street food tour in Nairobi! I met up with my friend James who took me around to a few of his favorite spots to eat.
Kawangware, Nairobi, Kenya
Here's most of the food we tried on this amazing tour of Nairobi:
Ann Restaurant - Dagoretti Corner - This small street food stall on Dagoretti Corner in Nairobi serves all sorts of Kenyan / East African foods. Their chapatis are especially good, and their Lake Victoria sardines fried with tomatoes.
Chapati
Dagaa - Lake Victoria sardine
Matumbo - stomach stew
Githeri - beans and maize
The guy sitting across the table - “you should not eat beans and sardines together, or you’ll have gas.”
Total bill - 1,050 KES ($10.39) - we paid for 4 or 5 guys eating there
Stomach Clinix - This was the best food stop of the day, a neighborhood meat shop that James took me to that specializes in cow head soup. The grilled tongue was also spectacular, but the soup was the best.
Total price - 200 KES ($1.98)
Dagoretti Market - After the meat, we took a walk over to Dagoretti Market. After browsing around for a while, we stopped for another plate of mixed Kenyan food, mostly dengu, which are mung beans. It was simple, but quite good.
Dengu - mung beans
Total price - 300 KES ($2.97)
Unity Cafe Hotel - We met up with some of James' friend in Kawangware, and went to eat across the street from their shoe shop. The mandazi mix was the highlight of this Kenyan meal.
Total price - 600 KES ($5.94) for all
Cow foot fry - Next we headed over to Oscar who makes cow food soup, fry and boil. He was a very friendly man, and showed me his entire process of making cow foot soup. It was delicious!
Total price - 450 KES ($4.45)
Kenyan street food - To end this Kenyan street food tour of Nairobi we had to eat one of the ultimate Kenyan fast food meat treats. You'll see these types of grills all over the streets in the late afternoon throughout Nairobi. You just choose what you want, it's cut on the chopping board, and you stand and eat.
Esophagus
Intestines
Mutura - minced meat sausage
Mutura - blood sausage
Udder
Total price - 200 KES ($1.97)
Thank you for watching this ultimate Nairobi street food tour!

Travel Vlog | Spending A Day in Cape Town | Family Vlog
First day of our #trip was busy, relaxed and awesome at the same time. We just arrived in #CapeTown when we got a frantic call from my #Mom telling us that kids are worried sick that something happened. We met up with my sister, her husband and my #niece and had lunch at #Spur Restaurant. We then prepared for our journey to the Eastern Cape.
In December of 2016 we decided to take a vacation to South Africa as a family with six of our friends. We were a group of ten. We spent the whole month touring the country. We visited Eastern Cape, Hermanus, Cape Town, Johannesburg. We stayed at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Constantia and Bloubergstrand. We hit all the tourist spots: Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point, townships of Khayelitsha and Gugulethu. In Johannesburg we went on a safari. We saw our family and friends. We had an awesome time.
