HISTORIC EVENT! White Russians From Europe Finally Reunited With Their Mother Church in Russia
A delegation from the Archdiocese, headed by Archbishop John (Renneto) of Dubna, arrived on Moscow on Saturday, November 2, to take part in the celebrations and receive the official document of accession.
On Saturday, members of the delegation will visit Donskoy Monastery, which houses the relics of Patriarch St. Tikhon, by whose decision the Western European parishes were united in 1921 into one administration, the Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, and the Moscow Diocesan House, where the Local Council of 1917-1918 was held, at which St. Tikhon was elected as Patriarch.
On November 3, Patriarch Kirill will lead the Sunday Liturgy in Christ the Savior Cathedral, with the participation of the delegation from Western Europe. During the service, Pat. Kirill will present Abp. John with a Patriarchal and Synodal gramota, recognizing the reunion of the Archdiocese with the Russian Church.
On November 4, Pat. Kirill and Abp. John will concelebrate the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin.

As bishop, he suffered persecution and exile at the hands of the communist because of his Orthodox faith and refusal to deny Christ. Years after his death he was canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church. We hope you enjoy the video and share with others.

ABOUT ST. TIKHON'S
St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary is an institution of professional Orthodox Christian theological education, chartered by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and affiliated with the Orthodox Church in America. In a rural environment conducive to spiritual growth and academic study, the Seminary nurtures the theological vocations of its students and faculty, who share the unique opportunity of learning and teaching Orthodox theology in the framework of their daily experience of a rich heritage of Russian Orthodox spiritual and liturgical tradition.
The primary mission of the Seminary lies in providing the necessary theological, liturgical, spiritual and moral foundations for Orthodox men to become, as God so wills, good shepherds of His Holy Orthodox Church. At the same time, however, the Seminary also recognizes that many individuals choose to enroll in a professional theological training program for the fulfillment of needs other than those of ordained ministry. Among these are: preparation for general religious leadership responsibilities in parishes and other settings; advanced theological study; specialized ministry as religious educators or choir directors; personal spiritual enrichment. Therefore, St. Tikhon’s Seminary continues to support all honorable reasons for matriculation at the Seminary and participation in class.

Orthodox Liturgics Pt. 1: the Liturgical Books
St. Tikhon’s Monastery presents the first in a series of twelve lessons on Liturgics for Readers and Choir Directors in the Orthodox Christian tradition.
In this lesson, Hieromonk Herman introduces the the liturgical books used in the Church’s daily services: The Hieratikon and Horologion; the Menaion; the Triodion, Pentecostarion, and Octoechos; and the Typikon. Various English editions of each text are presented.
Knowing what each book is, what it contains, and when it’s used is the indispensable foundation for grasping the Church’s liturgical order.

Roger Seiler - Alexander Baranov, Saint Herman and the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska
Author and award-winning film maker Roger Seiler talks with Dianemarie Collins on The DM Zone. Standing in front of Nyack, New York's Russian Orthodox Church, DM and Roger talk about Alexander Baranov, Saint Herman and the founding of the Russian Orthodox Church in Alaska.
From the founding of Russian America in 174l, sporadic, informal attempts were made to Christianize the Natives. In 1794, 200 years ago, the Russian Orthodox Church established its first mission in North America, at Kodiak Island in southeastern Alaska. and, in 1799, appointed the first American Bishop. By 1808 the capital was moved to Novoarkhangelsk (Sitka), where in 1848 the Cathedral of St. Michael was built, the seat of the Bishop of Kamchatka, the Kurile and Aleutian Islands, and Alaska -- a vast expanse stretching over 2,000 miles. This Golden Age of the Orthodox Church in Alaska ended with the sale of Alaska to the United States in 1867.
The story of the many remarkable priests and monks who served the Church in Alaska, recounted in a number of valuable journals in the Church Archives, is one of incredible achievements against often overwhelming odds. They contended daily with bitter cold and deep snows, traveling by dogsled to attend their widely dispersed parishes. The constant lack of essential resources led them to sell candles and books, and to sometimes sacrifice their own salaries to meet parish expenses. Not the least troublesome was the gnawing competition from shamans for the souls of the Natives, exacerbated by the need for Natives to abandon church and school for long periods in order to survive -- by hunting and fishing. Despite the sale of Alaska to the United States, and the incursion of other sectarian groups, Catholic and Protestant, the Russian Orthodox priests continued their mission, leaving an indelible mark upon the culture of the Native Alaskans, visible even today.

SKETE: The Movie
It took 9 months to make this movie about your First Hierarch – Metropolitan Hilarion.
Two weeks before the deadline (July 7, 2019) Vladyka said five words that were so powerful – they made the videographer delete the whole movie and start over.
The Metropolitan said “this is not about me.”
Can you imagine?! Your Metropolitan has spent almost five years building a monastery with his personal assistant Fr. Tikhon and NO ONE knew about it. Then at the last minute he says “this is not about me.”
Vladyka Hilarion is the spiritual leader of ROCOR and if you follow his example you would be contributing to a lasting legacy of building a monastery.
Would you like to help your First Hierarch build a monastery?
Go to fundforassistance.org and donate now to help Vladyka build this monastery.
