Should You Visit Tong Church AKA The Collegiate Church of St. Bartholomew's, Tong?
The Script
The church is shrouded in scaffolding as it undergoes a million pound restoration.
When you go in the first thing you see is the Royal Coat of Arms – Dieu and Mon Droit which translates as God and my right that is - God and my right to rule France – but more it is saying there was to be no papacy here – the King is head of this church
Then we move forward towards the altar – the tombs are clustered around this end of the church – the closer to the altar the more holiness for the tomb.
This is the tomb of Richard Vernon who died in 1517 and his wife Margaret
This is the tomb of Sir Fulke de Pembrugge and his wife Isabel who actually set up the chantry college.
Then rather confusingly lets look at another Richard Vernon who died in 1451 with his wife Bendedicta de Ludlow
To lift the mood a little we find some old signs hidden away – I read one.
To finish this brief tour we’ll go into the Sanctuary and enjoy the 1902 east window which was created by a guy called Charles Kemp who was the go to Stained glass man at the time with some 4000 churches showing his windows
So there it is – a huge amount of history, art and monument to see and be moved by.
Should you visit – absolutely yes
Part of a series of videos I make because I can. Enjoy
St.Batholomew's Church Tong, Shropshire
Lady Isabella de Pembrugge (d.1446) and her husband Sir Fulk de Pembrugge (d.1409), St.Batholomew's Church Tong, Shropshire. Lady Isabella founded the collegiate church in 1410. The tomb and effigies are made of Nottingham alabaster. She wears a plain widow’s dress. At her feet is a fawn which has had the head broken off. The crown collar, which indicates that she was a lady at the court of King Richard II, remains. She died in 1446. By tradition, a bunch of roses is placed in the hands of the foundress on Midsummer’s Day, the Feast of St John the Baptist. This custom is still continued.

First ringing on the bells by local ringers. The church was destroyed by fire in March 2008 but the bells were saved. Following restoration of the church and rehanging of the bells by Taylors the local ringers now have their ring of six bells again and a greatly improved ringing room also.

St. Mary the Virgin Church, Astley, Warwickshire, UK in 3D
Known as the 'Lantern of Arden' because in Medieval times a lantern was placed in the spire to guide travellers through the forest, the spire is now gone. The Church also has the unusual feature of Misericord's. A Misericord (sometimes named mercy seat, like the Biblical object) is a small wooden shelf on the underside of a folding seat in a church, installed to provide a degree of comfort for a person who has to stand during long periods of prayer.

Tredington St. Gregory Part Two
Tredington is a church of great beauty, it's 210 ft spire is a local landmark, and also of great archaeological interest. Within the later aisles the Saxon church is still apparent and the massive Norman arcades lend a real atmosphere of antiquity.
Tredington lies close to the Fosse way on the road from Stratford-upon-Avon to Shipston on Stour in Warwickshire.
