Rajah on the move - Auckland Museum
Auckland Museum favourite Rajah the elephant recently took a small trip from his old home in 'Wild Child' up to the Origins gallery to make room for our new Special Exhibitions Hall.
⠀
Rajah is 100 years old and arrived at Auckland Zoo in 1930 after spending time in London and Tasmania. Over the coming weeks we'll be sharing more stories about Rajah and the work that has gone into his preservation at the museum.

NEW ZEALAND | Road Trip Rotorua and Glow Worm Cave
Hello from New Zealand!
Our flight to Auckland landed after 16hours from Dubai and we were so excited to spend two days in this amazing place.
This weekend was not like every other weekend in Auckland.
Many rugby fans arrived from UK, Ireland, Scotland and other places to watch the Rugby game between All Blacks and Lions.
The streets in the center of the city were closed for the parade and people were celebrating wearing their team's T-shirts.
For us it was an amazing day for a road trip to explore the beauty of this paradise land.
We started our road trip early morning of Friday.
After 2 hours driving we reached The Glowworm Caves in Waitomo.
Our guide was the New Zealander Dany DeVito as he calls himself and he looks exactly alike with the same sense of humor.
He guided us inside the caves and explained how this phenomenon occurs.
It was dark and impossible to take any video or photo inside the cave but I used a photo I found in internet to show the glowworms in my video.
The tour lasted 45minutes and then we left for our next exploring.
On our way we stopped for some sushi in a small restaurant and it was delicious.
After 2 more hours of driving we arrived in Rotorua and the Kuirau Nature Park.
We were amazed from the geothermal activity of this area.
The access to the park is free for everyone and there were many people having a foot thermal spa in the geothermal foot pool.
There is also a playground and we had so much fun like kids.
Then we visited the lake Rotorua and we saw the beautiful sunset.
We did not stay long there cause it was already dark so we drove 2 and a half hours back to Auckland.
This was a very nice layover in Auckland and although the flight is one of the longest in the world I would be happy to do it again and spend more time in Rotorua.
The quality of this video is not very good as I record from iPhone only.
I appologise for this and I will try to improve for the next videos.
Thank you all for watching and commenting.

The Henhouse in Napier - with rondavel in the garden
This self-catering, country retreat, is a twist on a 1908-private dwelling, this renovated and architect designed home, reminiscent of a of bygone era, is purposely modelled on the lines of that gracious age.
This two-bedroomed home will enthral you as you relax in front of the wood-burning fireplace while sampling some of the excellent local wines before exploring further afield.
Extra accommodation for two is available in the rondavel in the garden - ideal for children or young people.

Equity New Zealand, the union for New Zealand's performers, held a Green Room event in Auckland at The Basement Theatre on 18 October 2015. Equity president Jennifer Ward-Lealand hosted the conversation with industry experts Michelle Lafferty (director of Elephant Publicity), Kerry Warkia (producer and performer and founding member of Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions) and Gabrielle Vincent (Artistic Development Manager at The Basement Theatre). Elephant riding in Thailand - tourist dream but an animal's nightmare (PMC)
AUCKLAND (PMC/Asia Pacific Report): More than 150,000 people have signed a petition to end elephant riding at Angkor in Cambodia, a UNESCO World Heritage site where tourists converge to marvel at the immense Khmer Empire ruins
The World Wildlife Fund lists Asian elephants as an endangered species, with the total population estimated somewhere between 30,000 to 50,000 and on the decline.
International animal welfare organisations such as the Elephant Asia Rescue and Survival Foundation (EARS) and World Animal Protection (WAP) have voiced their support of the petition, and are challenging travel companies to get on board.
World Animal Protection (WAP) video clip from Thailand with story by Dominic Pink on Asia Pacific Report:
The WAP caption says: Seeing wildlife up close is a dream for many tourists. But the reality for animals is a lifetime of cruelty and abuse. Lions, tigers, elephants, monkeys and other wildlife species are suffering at cruel tourist attractions. Wildlife not Entertainment. Wild Animals belong in the wild.
