Donate to the Andrew Yang Campaign
On Saturday January 18th, Andrew hosted a Women’s Town Hall at the beautiful Englert Theatre in Iowa City. This event was to follow the Iowa City Women’s March that was unfortunately cancelled due to weather. Andrew was scheduled to March along side the Women of Iowa City as an advocate for Women’s rights.

If you support Andrew Yang for president, please consider traveling to an early state to help canvas or do some phone/text banking in the comfort of your own home. The bottom line is to get activated, share why you believe in this campaign and encourage others to caucus/vote for Andrew in the primaries.

Raj Patel in Iowa City
Author and activist Raj Patel drew more than 425 people to The Englert Theatre Wednesday, Oct. 2, despite rainstorms and competing events. Guests heard the story of amazing women from Malawi and their impact on Iowa farmers they met when visiting America. Farmer Denise O’Brien, who appears in the documentary, moderated the Q and A with Mayor Jim Throgmorton and Raj Patel.
Raj spent the next day visiting classes and meeting with professors at the University of Iowa before heading back to Austin.
Iowa City resident Mark Weinstein won the Thanksgiving Dinner for 8 from Lucky Star Farm and New Pioneer Co-op. He indicated he planned to share it with fellow climate activists! Thank you Eric Woolson from The Concept Works for the donation!
Imagine what we can do... together.
Iowa's future is in our hands. While the local food movement grows in Iowa, the source of that food is in danger.
#DidYouKnow: Iowa is losing 25 acres of farmland each day to development? This is precisely the land our market farmers need.
Every year, we allow up to 5 tons of topsoil per acre to blow or wash away.
Iowa’s volatile land prices are driving young people away from their dream of becoming fruit and vegetable farmers.
More than half of our farmland is owned by people over 65 and one-third is owned by people over 75, yet leaders have not stepped forward to address how we will keep this land producing food for the next generation.
SILT permanently protects land across Iowa. Landowners may choose to donate property – even while retaining full use of it during their lives – or place a permanent land protection agreement on it, retaining ownership. Both options come with significant tax incentives for eligible donors.
On parcels the land trust owns, we offer qualified farmers long-term, inheritable leases that free them from a lifetime of debt. They enjoy the pride of ownership in their homes, barns, and business, but SILT takes the price of the land itself out of the equation for sustainable farmers all across Iowa.
Land protection agreements called an agricultural conservation easement, cut the purchase price by as much as half due to the permanent restrictions to grow food in a nature-friendly way, making land for sustainable food farmers affordable for generations to come. SILT monitors and enforces those easements.
With city planners and private developers, we seek to build small farms into the planning process. These independent, family farms will provide a diverse, healthy landscape, increasing nearby home values while attracting new businesses seeking a high quality of life for their employees.
We will work with established farm groups and farm management companies to market SILT farms to aspiring and experienced farmers looking to grow healthy food in Iowa, making Iowa a great state to move to and grow young families and good food.
Why SILT?
-The money SILT farmers make stays in our communities.
-The products SILT farmers grow feed our communities.
-The land SILT farmers farm is treated like the public resource it is.
-SILT farms contribute to cleaner water and air, to healthier soils that stay in place, to chemical-free vegetables and grains and pork, lamb and chicken from animals that roam in the sun and lounge in the shade until their one bad day.
