Kobe - SHOPPING STREETS
Shopping in Kobe is ubiquitous but luckily it’s all within walking distance. When you first arrive at Sannomiya Station, you’ll be greeted by department stores like SOGO and OIOI where you can get many luxury fashion items. But if you’re into more the local shopping scene then it’s a must to venture into the shopping streets, also known as shotengai.
Kobe KYUKYORYUCHI
When Kobe it’s international port in 1868, this foreign settlement was constructed. Designed by British Civil engineers the 126 blocks were auctioned to western foreigners. 70% of the buildings were destroyed after the World War II air raids in 1945. Kobe city decided preserved the remaining buildings as cultural properties.

Vories Mountain Villa in Mt. Rokko, Kobe, Japan
William Vories was an American who came to Japan in 1905 to evangelize, and ended up being an English teacher/architect/businessman in the Kansai (Western Japan) area. He spent the rest of his life in this island, and was awarded a number of medals here for his many contributions to the society.
He left architectural legacies, many of which have been conserved.
Here is a mountrain villa he designed for a wealthy Japanese family in Kansai; the building is designated as one of the national cultural heritage sites.
His design is very detail-oriented, dynamic yet deliberate, with lots of suprise gimmicks like hidden storage area.

Kobe Ijinkan
During the 2nd half of the 19th century, Kobe port was opened to foreign trade, and many foreign merchants settled in this place. Western-style buildings built during that time and inhabited by Europeans and Americans is known as Ijinkan and now converted into public museums. This place is popular among young people and offers a variety of cafes, restaurants and boutiques.
Few interesting houses that is opened to public are England House France House Ben's House, Italian House, Former Chinese Consulate, Dutch Museum and Fragrance House etc. To enter these houses you may take the combined tickets or single ticket sold in the Ijinkan itself.
If you take the Kobe Loop Bus, the bus will stop over at the Ijinkan bus stop.
I visited the Starbucks and English House.
Admission: 750 yen (also available as part of a combination ticket)
This house was built in 1907 and displays antique furniture and household items of that time.
There are 2 bars at the ground level which are open for business on Sundays and holidays from 17:00 to 25:00.
I found the second floor most attractive as it houses a collection of Sherlock Holmes memorabilia, and a replica of 221B Baker Street where he used to live.

Wagyu beef is the most prized beef in the world. A single cow can be sold for up to $30,000. Part of the reason why it's so expensive is due to its exclusivity and increasing demand.

The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art is a modern and contemporary art museum found along the waterfront in the newly developed HAT Kobe district. It was built as part of the city's recovery efforts after the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. It was designed by Ando Tadao, one of Japan's leading contemporary architects who has designed museums on Naoshima, Omotesando Hills and the Tokyo Sky Tree among other famous buildings.
The museum is the largest of its kind in western Japan. It hosts exhibitions of paintings, prints, sculptures and other artwork by both foreign and Japanese artists. Its permanent exhibition displays a rotating collection of modern and contemporary art and features artists with strong ties to Hyogo Prefecture. World's Most Beautiful Starbucks ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Where is the world's most beautiful Starbucks? Japan, of course.
In Toyama city's Kansui Park is a shop that has won awards for it's design, but it's also the location that makes it beautiful. Those big windows overlook a lake in a park, the building resting upon grass, surrounded by sakura trees. The fresh air off the sea of Japan and the beautiful sunsets over the nearby Japanese Alps can't be forgotten. I could sip a hot cappuccino all day here.
But wait! Starbucks newest shop in Kyoto (Ninenzaka) is a traditional tea house that looks centuries old! It's hard to tell it's a Starbucks until you see the sign. Inside, it's like going back in time. You definitely feel Kyoto's historical vibe sitting on tatami sipping macha tea ... lattes. This may also be the world's most beautiful shop.
Hakodate in Hokkaido is home to what many consider to be the coziest Starbucks in the world. It's got a fireplace, wide open rooms and stairs, natural hard wood floors and a beautiful deck that overlooks Hakodate Bay. It's super cozy!
Yeah, visiting Starbucks is certainly one attraction for many visitors because it seems more than just a chain coffee shop. To me, it a reflection of the world around us -- and a really good cup of coffee.
THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED VIDEO.
I made this episode from a suggestion from a viewer in 2016 :) I also like Starbucks Japan because it's the only cafe chain that is non-smoking and has excellent coffee.
