Swervedriver - Live at The Fleece, Bristol, England, 12th May 2019
After finishing my final night shift at work at 7am, I didn't get much sleep as I set off from Plymouth to Brizzle at around 2pm to ensure I would check in to the travelodge and then get to this much anticipated gig in time. I was anxious and worried that I wouldn't stay awake and I would feel horrible throughtout the whole gig. However, it seems like Swervedriver and their great support acts kept me more than awake; in fact they made me live. Like the mighty closing track to the Swervie's set suggested; I'm going down, down to the fleece venue place, going to learn to live, yeeaaaaaaah.
This was the first fixture in Swervedriver's UK Tour promoting their latest album, 'Future Ruins', which still hasn't seen the light of day as of May 2019 in terms of, us pledgers receiving our pre-ordered copy of the album. Yes, I am indeed talking about the pledgemusic scandal that has left both music fans and the bands themselves up in arms and quite rightly, we should be angry.
Being Shoegazers as you may know, we tend to express our feelings and emotions through a hurricane of abrasive yet blissful guitar sound, we don't shout, scream or cry about these things, but rather, we let the music speak for itself. Swervedriver really blew the doors down this night, sonically. All of the pledgemusic grief among much more severe world problems just swept away for one night at least, in a hazy yet solid mist of distortion, reverb and modulation. The only Duel occurring is the encore. Space travel rock 'n' roll touching my sole..........of my shoe, (ha ha!) The wall of sound making me lose my head, dream of what might be. The outside world does not mean a thing at this place and at this point in time. A definitive presentation of what we love about Shoegaze and dream pop music. NEVER LOSE THAT FEELING.
