General George Henry Thomas, a Virginia-born Unionist, was the greatest general of the American Civil War, according to David Decker, a Civil War storyteller. In December of 1864, General Thomas smashed General Hood's army at the Battle of Nashville in Tennessee, chasing them for 250 miles and leaving Hood, who had started with 57,000 soldiers, with merely 3,000. In doing so, Thomas ended the war in the west before Grant and Sherman ended the war in the east. This ten-minute video accompanies two other videos on General Thomas: The Rock of Chickamauga and The Greatest General of the Civil War.

And Along Came Jones is an album by American country music singer George Jones released in 1991 on the MCA Nashville Records label.
George Glenn Jones (September 12, 1931 – April 26, 2013) was an American musician, singer and songwriter. He achieved international fame for his long list of hit records, including his best-known song He Stopped Loving Her Today, as well as his distinctive voice and phrasing. For the last twenty years of his life, Jones was frequently referred to as the greatest living country singer. Country music scholar Bill Malone writes, For the two or three minutes consumed by a song, Jones immerses himself so completely in its lyrics, and in the mood it conveys, that the listener can scarcely avoid becoming similarly involved. Waylon Jennings expressed a similar opinion in his song It's Alright: If we all could sound like we wanted to, we'd all sound like George Jones. The shape of his nose and facial features earned Jones the nickname The Possum.
Born in Texas, Jones first heard country music when he was seven and was given a guitar at the age of nine. He married his first wife, Dorothy Bonvillion, in 1950, and was divorced in 1951. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1953. He married Shirley Ann Corley in 1954. In 1959, Jones recorded White Lightning, written by J. P. Richardson, which launched his career as a singer. His second marriage ended in divorce in 1968; he married fellow country music singer Tammy Wynette a year later. Years of alcoholism compromised his health and led to his missing many performances, earning him the nickname No Show Jones.[3] After his divorce from Wynette in 1975, Jones married his fourth wife, Nancy Sepulvado, in 1983 and became sober for good in 1999. Jones died in 2013, aged 81, from hypoxic respiratory failure.
During his career, Jones had more than 150 hits, both as a solo artist and in duets with other artists. Robert Christgau has called him honky-tonk's greatest honky.
Lyrics:
I gave her that diamond she dreamed of,
And I bought her a home with a view;
I took her to the ends of the rainbow,
But all I left her was blue.
Seems I never had time to love her,
Now it seems time just stands still;
I thought I was king of the mountain,
But I was only a fool on the hill.
Now I'm here alone, after leavin' her lonely,
Lord, I'm livin' with the memory I know I can't kill;
I thought I was king of the mountain,
But I was only a fool on the hill.
Now I'm here alone, after leavin' her lonely,
Lord, I'm livin' with the memory I know I can't kill;
I thought I was king of the mountain,
But I was only a fool on the hill.
I thought I was king of the mountain,
But I was only a fool on the hill...
Historic Alley Named After Legendary Honky Tonk
Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.NASHVILLE, TN - - Every day of the year music fills Tootsies Orchid Lounge. Most people come in through the front door, but just around the corner is another very famous entrance. Many artists came here to relax before or after the Grand Ole Opry including my dad Hank Williams says Jett Williams. The legendary alley entrance that Hank and hundreds of others have walked through has been revitalized. The original sign that hung for 60 years is glowing once again. When we started remodeling we decided to get the sign revamed they did a great job with it. It let's people know where the world famous entrance is as well says Tootsie's owner Steve Smith But that's not all. The alley itself was also named in honor of the legendary bar. When the Grand Ole Opry left, Tootsie stayed and then we kept it going. says Smith. A nod to one of Nashville's most well known landmarks and yet another reason for folks to visit Music City! Tootsies is also in the process of preserving the famous walkway that goes from the back of The Ryman to that back alley door at Tootsies.

George Jones ~ You Must Have Walked Across My Mind Again
Album: Jones Country
Utgitt: 1983
Låtskrivere: Wayne Kemp, Warren Robb
Label: Epic
The album's name was taken from an outdoor music park operated and owned by Jones in Texas near his birthplace between the years of 1983 through 1988 prior to his and his wife's return to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 1989. Jones had operated several similar country music themed parks over the years, beginning with the short lived George Jones Rhythm Ranch in 1966 and then the Old Plantation Music Park in Lakeland, Florida in the early seventies when he'd been married to Tammy Wynette. Jones had also opened two Possum Holler Clubs in Nashville in 1967 and 1975. As he later recalled in his 1996 autobiography I Lived To Tell It All, one of benefits of the Jones Country park was that it took his mind off his drinking problem, which he was trying to kick: Returning to Texas helped me stop drinking for a while. I went on a sobriety binge...Working on the place, I knew, would keep me busy. The busier I was, the less I would drink. I think my dry period lasted several months, with only an occasional slip.
