Seaport Village in San Diego, CA - Adventure Guru
Seaport Village and the Embarcedero are fantastic places to shop, eat, go for a stroll, rent a kayak or Jet Ski, or people watch. I've also watched a playful sea lion from the boardwalk looking into the marina. If you have a military or plane buff with you, make sure and visit the U.S.S. Midway, a real aircraft carrier converted to a museum. There are flight simulators inside and jets and helicopters that you can get an up-close view of. Also, it's one of the most epic places to watch the 4th of July fireworks display from.
Parking fills up and is pretty spendy. Validated self-parking: $5 for the first 2 hours, $3 every 30 minutes thereafter. Validation with a minimum $10 purchase. Non-validated self-parking: $8 per hour. If you're staying in a hotel downtown just grab one of the hundreds of electric scooters strewn throughout town.
ADA: Both areas have flat and access friendly paths to enjoy. There are ADA accessible bathrooms inside Seaport Village.

San Diego's Harbor Drive Seaport and The Headquarters
The Friday of our Labor Day Weekend 2015. Headed Harbor Drive in San Diego to show the kids a different side of San Diego they have not seen before. My daughter has seen Seaport Village when she was a couple years old but it's been awhile for all of us. This was the first time any of us have seen The Headquarters. This place has on,y been around for a couple of years, unknown to me until Petra from Gelato Paradiso told me about it. This is where their storefront is located and serving 32 different flavors daily! Thank you for letting us know of this place Petra :)

The USS Midway Museum is a maritime museum located in downtown San Diego, California at Navy Pier. The museum consists of the aircraft carrier Midway. The ship houses an extensive collection of aircraft, many of which were built in Southern California.
USS Midway was the United States' longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, from 1945 to 1992. Approximately 200,000 sailors served aboard the carrier, known for several naval aviation breakthroughs as well as several humanitarian missions. It was the only carrier to serve the entire length of the Cold War and beyond. It is now berthed in San Diego, California, the original home of the Navy's TOPGUN air combat school.
Midway opened as a museum on 7 June 2004. By 2012 annual visitation exceeded 1 million visitors. As of 2015 Midway is the most popular naval warship museum in the United States. The museum has over 13,000 members, and hosts more than 700 events a year, including more than 400 active-duty Navy retirements, re-enlistments, and changes of command. The museum also hosts approximately 50,000 students on field trips and 5,000 children in its overnight program annually.

About Downtown San Diego:
Downtown San Diego, also referred to as Centre City, is the city center of San Diego, California, the eighth largest city in the United States. In 2010, the Centre City area itself had a population of more than 28,000. Downtown San Diego serves as the cultural and financial center and central business district of San Diego, with more than 4,000 businesses and nine districts. The downtown area is the home of the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera as well as multiple theaters and several museums.[1] [2] The San Diego Convention Center and Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, are also located downtown. Downtown San Diego houses the major local headquarters of the city, county, state, and federal governments.
Districts and neighborhoods[edit]
Columbia, the west district of downtown. Located between the Marina and Little Italy, west of Columbia St.
Core District, the central business district of downtown.
Cortez Hill, the north-east district of downtown.
East Village, the east district of downtown, which is home to Petco Park and the surrounding Ballpark Village.
Gaslamp Quarter, a two by ten block night life district in central Downtown
Little Italy, the north-west district of downtown.
Marina, the south-west district of downtown, which is home to Seaport Village and Pantoja Park.
Horton District, the district comprising Horton Plaza and adjacent buildings in central downtown.
Seaport Village, a tourist district within the Marina District, which is not an official district or neighborhood.
Due to San Diego International Airport's (Lindbergh Field) proximity to downtown, there is a FAA imposed 500-foot height restriction on all buildings within a 1.5 mile radius of the runway.[16] The height regulation exists because when planes approach the airport, any structure taller than 500 ft. within the radius could interfere with flight operations and potentially result in a collision.[17]

San Diego Bay, San Diego, San Diego County, California, United States, North America
San Diego Bay is a natural harbor and deepwater port located in San Diego County, California near the U.S.–Mexico border. The bay, which is 12 miles (19 km) long and 1 to 3 miles (1.6 to 4.8 km) wide, is the third largest of the three large, protected natural bays on California's entire 840 miles (1,350 km) long coastline after San Francisco Bay and Humboldt Bay. The highly urbanized land adjacent to the bay includes the city of San Diego (eighth largest city in the United States) and four other cities, including National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and Coronado. Considered to be one of the best natural harbors on the west coast of North America, it was colonized by Spain beginning in 1769. Later it served as base headquarters of major ships of the United States Navy in the Pacific until just before the United States entered World War II, when the newly organized United States Pacific Fleet primary base was transferred to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. However, San Diego Bay remains as a home port of major assets, including several aircraft carriers, of the United States Pacific Fleet, and as a result of base closures beginning in the 1980s, facilities in San Diego Bay are the only remaining major naval base facilities still in operation in the entire State of California. San Diego Bay's commercial port has two container ship facilities (one for refrigerated containers) and a cruise ship terminal. A second cruise ship terminal opened in December 2010. The port handles more than 3 million metric tons of cargo yearly. The cruise ship terminal hosted more than 250 ship calls a year totaling more than 800,000 passengers at its peak in 2008; since then the number of ship calls has fallen to fewer than 100 per year due to the withdrawal of regular service by major cruise lines. General Dynamics' National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), the only shipyard on the west coast capable of building and repairing large ocean-going vessels, is near the San Diego side of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge. San Diego International Airport is also adjacent to the bay, across Harbor Drive from the Coast Guard Station. The bay is spanned by the San Diego – Coronado Bridge, built in 1969. The bridge curves and rises to a height of 200 feet above the water so that Navy ships can pass under it. (However, the vertical clearance is insufficient for Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, which is why these are docked north of the bridge.) The bridge was originally a toll bridge; however, toll collection was discontinued in 2002, when the bridge's construction loans were paid in full. Formerly known as Commercial Basin and housing much of San Diego's sport and commercial fishing fleet, the small cove in the southern lee of Shelter Island was renamed in 1994 to America's Cup Harbor, in honor of the 1995 America's Cup races held in San Diego. America's Cup Harbor has several boat yards and marinas for private sailing yachts, as well as a mooring field. Numerous resorts, hotels, and the San Diego Convention Center are adjacent to the Bay. Several parks and nature preserves are found at various locations along the shoreline. Sightseeing boats depart from the downtown area. Commercial sport fishing and whale watching tours depart from Shelter Island. Ten museum ships call San Diego Bay home. They include the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier museum, and the Star of India, the oldest iron-hulled merchant ship afloat and the world's oldest active sailing ship. The Star of India and eight other ships and boats on San Diego Bay are the floating collection of the San Diego Maritime Museum; they are open to the public for a fee, and many are in sailing condition. In the northern part of the bay there are two commercial islands (actually peninsulas connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land) called Harbor Island and Shelter Island. They were built up from former sand bars and now hold hotels, restaurants, marinas, and public parkland. Across from Harbor Island is a bayside park called Spanish Landing, a historic site which commemorates the meeting in 1769 of two expeditions from Spanish Mexico that made possible the European settlement of California. Spanish Landing park is the site of San Salvador Village, where the San Diego Maritime Museum is constructing a full-sized, fully functional wooden replica of the San Salvador flagship, in which explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo discovered San Diego Bay in 1542. Small boat sailing is extremely popular, and the bay is lined by dozens of marinas and nine yacht clubs, including the San Diego Yacht Club which was the home of the America's Cup from 1988 to 1995. An inlet of the bay was renamed America's Cup Harbor to commemorate that occasion.

Port of San Diego's Pavilion on Broadway Pier Opens
The Port of San Diego's new Pavilion on Broadway Pier, which will serve as both a public event center and cruise ship terminal, is celebrating its grand opening on December 18, 2010. The modern, two-story facility will be the Port of San Diego's first green building. Its state-of-the art design is expected to win silver LEED certification after undergoing several months of review by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The $28-million Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier was designed and built to reduce water and energy usage. In addition, cruise ships that will berth at the pavilion and the Port's main cruise terminal on the B Street Pier will use shore-side electrical power.

Tour of Old San Diego Police Headquarters ~ Feb. 27, 1999
My father, Larry Buckeye, and I, Travis Buckeye, taking a tour of the old San Diego Police Headquarters on Feb. 27, 1999, at which time, if I recall correctly, the plan was to soon demolish the campus in its entirety. I am delighted to tell those of you that do not know, that plan never came to fruition. It still stands! I've since acquired the means to convert our old VHS home videos to digital, so I am pleased to finally present this to all those interested.
