Bristol, Foodies, Trip-Hop & Street Art.
#Bristol, the #capital of the #music in the #UK where #TripHop was born. Is very rich on #streetart because #Banksy was born here too and has an incredibly fast thriving #food scene. Bristol is full on independent #breweries, #restaurants and #coffeeshops. #Heaven for foodies, very #local and #international at the same time without being as overpopulated.
We went for a street feast and Guilia from olivensage.co.uk Tuscani's Deli, offered a #gourmet #sandwich with #GREEN #PESTO, #FENEL #SALAMI, #CHEESE AND #GRILLED #AUBERGINES.. #FABULOUS!
Our other friend and #TOP #BARISTA show us where to actually have the best #coffee and #beer in town and that was very good too!
And finally we made it to the Biggest Restaurant in the UK, #ZaZaBazar where they serve all short of foods from all around, including #Sushi, #Indian and #Mexican to mention the best ones.. Quality and quantity vs price? No words, see it for yourself!

Keep Bristol Weird | A Boiler Room & British Council Documentary
► Keep Bristol Weird is Boiler Room’s new documentary in partnership with the British Council.
The 21-minute film spotlights an independent community in the West Country enclave, responsible for some of the most exciting music coming out of the UK right now. The multi-voiced story is told by a series of local names key to this Bristol scene: Idle Hands supremo Chris Farrell, the Young Echo crew, Bad Tracking, Mix Nights, Giant Swan, Batu, Hodge, Danielle, E B U, Ossia, Franco Franco & Kinlaw.
With their sounds, this group of artists, DJs and performers is fighting against algorithms, influencer culture and the mainstream-ification of electronic music. As music culture shifts ever-more online, Bristol’s underground scene try to keeps things IRL, grassroots and experimental; their boundless artistic energy a reaction to club closures in the city.
This thriving DIY scene is pushing the city’s dense musical history in exciting new directions, and creating new sounds from established forms. The documentary traces the roots of this sonic outpouring back to Bristol’s Caribbean community and soundsystem culture, through to Bristolian Dubstep, Grime and Drum & Bass, and beyond to punk, noise and metal. This music community is defined by its eclecticism.
In the documentary, Bristol comes across as a supportive place for creatives, where collaboration is prioritised over individualism. The city bristles with sprawling collectives and more independent labels than one can count, including Livity Sound, Timedance, Idle Hands, and Ossia’s multitude of operations.

Portishead - Threads
Portishead may not have invented trip-hop, but they were among the first to popularize it, particularly in America. Taking their cue from the slow, elastic beats that dominated Massive Attack's Blue Lines and adding elements of cool jazz, acid house, and soundtrack music, Portishead created an atmospheric, alluringly dark sound. The group wasn't as avant-garde as Tricky, nor as tied to dance traditions as Massive Attack; instead, it wrote evocative pseudo-cabaret pop songs that subverted their conventional structures with experimental productions and rhythms of trip-hop. As a result, Portishead appealed to a broad audience -- not just electronic dance and alternative rock fans, but thirtysomethings who found techno, trip-hop, and dance as exotic as worldbeat. Before Portishead released their debut album, Dummy, in 1994, trip-hop's broad appeal wasn't apparent, but the record became an unexpected success in Britain, topping most year-end critics polls and earning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize; in America, it also became an underground hit, selling over 150,000 copies before the group toured the U.S. Following the success of Dummy, legions of imitators appeared over the next two years, but Portishead remained quiet as they worked on their second album.
Homebrew Named after the West Coast shipping town where Geoff Barrow grew up, Portishead formed in Bristol, England, in 1991. Prior to the group's formation, Barrow had worked as a tape operator at the Coach House studio, where he met Massive Attack. Through that group, he began working with Tricky, producing the rapper's track for a Sickle Cell charity album. Barrow also wrote songs for Neneh Cherry's Homebrew, though only Somedays appeared on the record. Around the time of Portishead's formation, he had begun to earn a reputation as a remix producer, working on tracks by Primal Scream, Paul Weller, Gabrielle, and Depeche Mode. Barrow met Beth Gibbons, who had been singing in pubs, in 1991 on a job scheme. Over the next few years, the pair began writing music, often with jazz guitarist Adrian Utley, who had previously played with both Big John Patton and the Jazz Messengers.
Massive Attack ~ Documentary x4 -- Complete
Massive Attack is an English musical group formed in 1988 in Bristol, consisting of Robert 3D Del Naja and Grant Daddy G Marshall. Their debut album Blue Lines was released in 1991, with the single Unfinished Sympathy reaching the charts and later being voted the 63rd greatest song of all time in a poll by NME 1998's Mezzanine, containing Teardrop, and 2003's 100th Window charted in the UK at number 1.
Both Blue Lines and Mezzanine feature in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The group has won numerous music awards throughout their career, including a Brit Award—winning Best British Dance Act, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and two Q Awards. They have released 5 studio albums that have sold over 11 million copies worldwide.
DJs Daddy G and Andrew Vowles and graffiti artist-turned-rapper Robert Del Naja met as members of partying collective The Wild Bunch. One of the first homegrown soundsystems in the UK, The Wild Bunch became dominant on the Bristol club scene in the mid-1980s.
Massive Attack started as a spin-off production trio in 1988, with the independently released song, Any Love, sung by falsetto-voiced singer-songwriter Carlton McCarthy, and then, with considerable backing from Neneh Cherry, they signed to Circa Records in 1990 – committing to deliver six studio albums and a best of compilation.
Circa became a subsidiary of, and was later subsumed into, Virgin Records, which in turn was acquired by EMI. Blue Lines (1991), was co-produced by Jonny Dollar and Cameron McVey, who also became their first manager.
Geoff Barrow, who went on to form Portishead, was an intern and trainee tape operator at Bristol's Coach House studio when the album was recorded.
McVey (credited at the time as 'Booga Bear') and his wife, Neneh Cherry provided crucial financial support and in-kind assistance to the early careers of Massive Attack,
Portishead and Tricky during this period, even paying regular wages to them through their Cherry Bear Organisation.
Massive Attack used guest vocalists, interspersed with Del Naja and Marshall's (initially Tricky's) own sprechgesang stylings, on top of what became regarded as an essentially British creative sampling production; a trademark sound that fused down-tempo hip hop, soul, reggae and other eclectic references, musical and lyrical.
In the nineties, the trio became known for often not being able to easily get along with one another and working increasingly separately.
Andy Vowles (Mushroom), who had once thought of himself as the trio's musical director, acrimoniously left Massive Attack in late 1999, after an ultimatum from the other two members to end the group immediately if he did not. Despite having taken Del Naja's side in the effective firing of Vowles and then participating in a show-of-unity webcast as a duo the following year, Grant Marshall (G) had also effectively left by 2001 in that he abandoned the studio altogether. Marshall returned to a studio role in 2005, having joined the touring line-up in 2003/4
Tricky - Bristol to London [2010 - Mixed Race]
Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws (born 27 January 1968), better known by his stage name Tricky, is an English record producer, vocalist, and musician. Born and raised in Bristol, he began his career as an early collaborator of Massive Attack before embarking on a solo career with his debut album, Maxinquaye, in 1995. The release won Tricky popular acclaim and marked the beginning of a lengthy collaborative partnership with vocalist Martina Topley-Bird. He released four more studio albums before the end of the decade, including Pre-Millennium Tension and the pseudonymous Nearly God, both in 1996. He has gone on to release eight studio albums since 2000, most recently Ununiform (2017).
Tricky is a pioneer of trip hop music, and his work is noted for its dark, layered musical style that blends disparate cultural influences and genres, including hip hop, alternative rock and ragga. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists over the course of his career, including Terry Hall, Björk, Gravediggaz, Grace Jones, and PJ Harvey.
Tricky was born in the Knowle West neighbourhood of Bristol, to a Jamaican father and a mixed-race Anglo-Guyanese mother. His mother, Maxine Quaye, either committed suicide or died due to epilepsy complications when Tricky was four. His father, Roy Thaws, who left the family before Tricky was born, operated the Studio 17 sound system (formerly known as Tarzan the High Priest) with his brother Rupert and father Hector.[9] Bristol musician Bunny Marrett claimed in 2012, It became the most popular sound system in Bristol at the time.
Tricky experienced a difficult childhood in Knowle West, a white ghetto in Southern Bristol. He became involved in crime at an early age, and joined a gang that was involved in car theft, burglary, fights and promiscuity. Tricky spent his youth in the care of his grandmother, who often let him watch old horror films instead of going to school. At the age of 15, he began to write lyrics (I like to rock, I like to dance, I like pretty girls taking down their pants MixMag, 1996). At 17, he spent some time in prison after he purchased forged £50 notes from a friend, who later informed the police. Tricky stated in an interview afterward: Prison was really good. I'm never going back.
