Places to see in ( Glasgow - UK ) University of Glasgow
The University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities. University of Glasgow was founded in 1451. was part of the Scottish Enlightenment during the 18th century. University of Glasgow is currently a member of Universitas 21, the international network of research universities, and the Russell Group.
In common with universities of the pre-modern era, Glasgow originally educated students primarily from wealthy backgrounds, however University of Glasgow became a pioneer in British higher education in the 19th century by also providing for the needs of students from the growing urban and commercial middle class. Glasgow University served all of these students by preparing them for professions: the law, medicine, civil service, teaching, and the church. It also trained smaller but growing numbers for careers in science and engineering.
Originally located in the city's High Street, since 1870 the main University of Glasgow campus has been located at Gilmorehill in the West End of the city. Additionally, a number of university buildings are located elsewhere, such as the Veterinary School in Bearsden, and the Crichton Campus in Dumfries. Alumni or former staff of the University of Glasgow include philosopher Francis Hutcheson, engineer James Watt, philosopher and economist Adam Smith, physicist Lord Kelvin, surgeon Joseph Lister, 1st Baron Lister, seven Nobel laureates, and two British Prime Ministers.
The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451 by a charter or papal bull from Pope Nicholas V, at the suggestion of King James II, giving Bishop William Turnbull, a graduate of the University of St Andrews, permission to add a University to the city's Cathedral. University of Glasgow is the second-oldest university in Scotland after St Andrews and the fourth-oldest in the English-speaking world. The universities of St Andrews, Glasgow and Aberdeen were ecclesiastical foundations, while Edinburgh was a civic foundation. As one of the Ancient Universities of the United Kingdom, Glasgow University is one of only eight institutions to award undergraduate master's degrees in certain disciplines.

Once a common feature, traditional bandstands are now increasingly scarce in the UK's parks. Kelvingrove's bandstand dates from 1924-5. Possibly designed by James Miller, or designed in-house by the City Parks Department the bandstand is unusual for its amphitheatre seating and its picturesque riverside setting. Although exceedingly popular for band concerts in the 1950s to outdoor gigs in the 1990's, the bandstand fell into disuse in recent years. Now recognised as a rare example of its type, the Kelvingrove Bandstand was listed as Category B in 2000 and is now the subject of an ambitious community-based scheme to restore and revitalise the facility as a venue for a wide range of open-air performances and events.

Kelvingrove Park Glasgow
kelvingrove was originally created as the West End Park in 1852 by noted English gardener Sir Joseph Paxton, Head Gardener at Chatsworth House, whose other works included The Crystal Palace in London. The Town Council had purchased the land, which formerly represented the Kelvingrove and Woodlands estates, that year for the sum of £99,569,[1] around £8 million today.[2] The park was intended to provide for the continued expansion of the city to the west, providing relaxation and recreation opportunities for the new middle class to the west, and an escape from the rapid slumming of the city centre for those left behind.
The park is 34 hectares (85 acres) in size,[1] and located in the West End of Glasgow. It straddles the River Kelvin shortly before the river's confluence with the Clyde, and as such is an urban haven for wildlife. Birds found in the area include the grey heron, cormorant, and kingfisher, the mallard and goosander, and other animals include the red fox, brown rat and otters.[5] The park is flanked to the West by Gilmorehill and the University of Glasgow, to the South by Partick and Anderston, to the East by Charing Cross and to the North by Hillhead and Woodlands. This central location makes it a popular route for commuters to the city centre, leading quickly from the West End to Charing Cross whilst avoiding traffic. The park is also popular with dog-walkers, and students from the university.
Kelvingrove sits around the contours of a large hill, on which is sited the Park district of Glasgow. This was formerly a highly desirable residential area before falling out of fashion and being taken over mostly for office space and student accommodation. However, recent high-class residential developments there have made living in the area much more appealing. The area is also home to 22 Park Circus, the city's registry office, and to the Glasgow branch of the Goethe-Institut, a German culture institution.
Kelvinbridge subway station and bus routes provide access to the park.
Buses in Scotland-Routemasters in Glasgow 1989
A Scottish bus vid this time but with a London theme. See ex LT Routemasters at work in Glasgow City Centre. They were operated by three different companies, Magicbus (Stagecoach), Kelvin Scottish and Clydeside Scottish. Clydeside's fleet was the largest and better presented & looked after than the others, and until they were being withdrawn kept their original Reg Nos which made identification so much easier. So sit back & enjoy some AEC thrash around the streets of Glasgow! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!
