Thamesview Tournament 2015

Teen dies after fight outside middle school
A 13-year old girl from Attucks Middle School ended up on life support at Texas Children's Hospital two days after a fight off campus.
Kashala Francis' mother, Mamie Jackson, says her daughter told her she was attacked by two girls after school on Thursday, and that another girl later jumped in and kicked her in the head.
Jackson says when her daughter returned home Thursday afternoon, she had a bruise on her face, but insisted she was okay.

Faith Art & History - Macquarie Projections St Marys Cathedral - Tony Johansen dot com
Light projection show set to music.
This magnificent light show is part of the bicentennial celebrations of the arrival of Governor Lachlan Macquarie and his wife Elizabeth in Sydney. As a military commander the British Government intended for him to rule with a strong military arm. The colony was reeling from an insurrection called the Rum Rebellion. Macquarie's predecessor had suffered the indignity of violent mutiny, and Sydney was widely seen as the most dangerous place on Earth.
The American Revolution was in recent memory and many saw the loss of American colonies as resulting from treating them too kindly and they were not about to make a similar mistake in Botany Bay. Macquarie and his wife, however, were visionaries and reformers and set about creating a huge rebuilding program and instituted social reforms including large scale emancipation of convicts. Macquarie reasoned that they would be less a burden on society if they were given productive work to do. London did not see it that way and in 1821 the Macquaries were recalled to London to explain their actions. Their reforms, however, endured, and a nation grew from their efforts. Macquarie was the first official to use the term Australia and it is largely because of his usage the name became accepted.
There are light shows at several locations associated with Governor Macquarie but this film features the one at Cathedral Square. It runs every night, but it needed to be set to music and that is what I have done here. I started with two beautiful pieces of music that were available under a creative commons license to adapt with attribution and then married them together and added my own instruments and voices to enhance the feelings I was looking for in the music. Although the original compositions had quite different meanings as stand alone works of art, here they are transformed and evoke the dreams of these great visionaries. It has a haunting feeling of their spirits from the distant past alive in the modern nation and conveys our respect and love for their achievements.
The music I call I Believe In Dreams but it is based on James Bolton's I Believe and Forsonmeyer's The Mystic's Dream. I appreciate them allowing adaptation of their music under creative commons.

The Hard Lives of Britain's Synthetic Marijuana Addicts
Legal highs are set to be outlawed by the British government in response to a growing number of news reports about students overdosing on the synthetic drugs after using them recreationally. On the eve of the ban, VICE travelled to Manchester to meet some more vulnerable users who have become addicted to these over-the-counter substances and discovered that solving the problem won't be as simple as making legal highs illegal.

Decade of Thunder
Director Brian FitzGerald on Decade of Thunder:
Ever since I moved to Wichita, Kansas in 1980 I noticed a great love for the American Automobile here. It was an interesting discovery for me to be at a business lunch one day back in the 80's and to be introduced to Daryll Starbird the Auto Show Magnate. I learned in that meeting that his headquarters was in the Wichita metro area. I remember his traveling exhibitions back in the 60's when I lived in California. I saw them again in other states I lived as our family traveled about the country from Air Base to Air Base. After moving to Kansas I was amazed to find out that one of the great entrepreneurs of the Custom Car business was from my new home area Wichita. I had always thought he was a Californian.
About that time I started going to car shows and developed the opinion that the creations I marveled at these shows were art works of a high order. I decided that, notwithstanding the beauty and value of the traditional sculptures one finds in a museum, the arts community had completely missed the boat by not recognizing the wonderful quality of craftsmanship and pure artistry found in the work of innumerable car crafters. I took a lot of 35mm still shots of these motive sculptures back then but had no venue for showing them. I had not yet acquired the equipment I need for producing movies. In the back of my mind, though, I was developing a plan...
Toward the end of the eighties I was producing my first documentaries about my own personal favorite sport - Ultralight Flying. I love making movies and I love flying so that was a 'natural'. After making a number of movies about that type of flying I determined to branch out. I remembered my earlier impressions of the great artistry shown in the work of the car crafters I had talked with at all the car shows I had been to. It was another 'natural'.
I decided to make my first Automobile Documentary about the American Muscle Car.
This genre of car represents so much of what appeals to me about the America I grew up in and to a great extent still exists today. Power. Technology. Sleekness. Competition. Speed. Personality. Adventure. The idea of 'No Limits' & 'No Fear'. This is the America that isn't afraid to take on the tired, old ideas of the old world and run them down. Expressive NOT Introspective. The Beach Boys used to sing about these cars as did Jan & Dean and a host of others. I learned to play the guitar by lifting licks from The Ventures and their songs about cars and surfing during this time period.
After doing some research, I discovered that the Muscle Car phenomenon basically came and went during a 10 year period between 1963 and 1973. That 10 Year Span makes a decade and the idea for the movie title was made manifest.
In order to give focus to this piece, all 5 cars featured fit in that 10 year window, have 400+ cubic inches of engine, are more or less 'Original' as to their restoration and are All American.
In Decade of Thunder you will meet Bob Murguia and his '68 Hemi Roadrunner; Guy Lamoreau and his '70 Corvette 454; Rick Plush and his '70 Chevelle SS 454; Butch Dysart and his '67 Impala SS 427; and Earl Lauer and his '69 Shelby Mustang 428. Muscle Cars ALL!
In addition are three music videos to provide the flavor of just a few of the many Hot Rod and Custom Car events that occur every season in Kansas.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Morse's Oxford - 2. The Sheldonian Theatre & Hertford Bridge.
Second in a series of videos in which we take a look at different locations in and around Oxford used in the Inspector Morse and Lewis series.
The Sheldonian features in many episodes of Inspector Morse as it's a very iconic building right in the middle of town. To the right of the Sheldonian is the History of Science museum and a little further to the left is The Kings Arms, one of Morse's favorite pubs. Across the street is Blackwell's bookshop and The White Horse pub. For Morse lovers this is a feast of recognition.
