Places to see in ( Ripley - UK )
Ripley is a village in Surrey, England. The village has existed since Norman times – the chancel of the church of St. Mary Magdalen shows construction of circa 1160 there and supporting feet of fines and ecclesiastical records mention the village at the time. Ripley's sister village of Send to the south-west was the governing parish over the village for over 700 years until 1878 when they became two separate ecclesiastical parishes; they became separate civil parishes in 1933.
Lying on the main road from London to Portsmouth (from the 1930s referred to as the A3), Ripley was the post town for the whole area (including Woking) from 1813 to 1865. With the coming of the railway to what was then Woking Common in 1838, Ripley's importance diminished, and Woking became its post town in 1865. As motor traffic increased during the 1960s and the 1970s, the Portsmouth Road at Ripley became a notorious bottleneck, relieved by the building of the Ripley bypass in 1976. The A3 was renamed the B2215, and what has always been a major trunk road was expanded into six lanes north of Guildford, bypassing Send and Ripley.
The distance is 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to the M25 motorway. It is centred 6.2 miles (10.0 km) southeast of Woking, 6.8 miles (10.9 km) northeast of Guildford and 22.5 mi (36.2 km) southwest of London. Neighbouring villages Send and Send Marsh to the South-West and Ockham to the East have fewer shopping facilities.
The village church, St Mary Magdalen has a fine Norman chancel and is a Grade II* listed building (the second highest of the three categories). Among the more than 20 listed buildings and cottages in the village are Pinnocks Café the building the 'Ship Inn and Ye Old Sweet Shoppe', J Hartley Antiques, Sage Antiques (Green Cottage) and Clock House and Cellar Wines – Artisan Spirits, Boutique Wines, Delicatessen & Events (The Old Cellar) The building that Cellar Wines is located in, is a historical place of interest with a Blue Plaque located outside for the production of penicillin for the first time in the UK (possibly the world) for civilian use by Kennith White in 1944. Cedar House Gallery, in another listed building, Cedar House often has exhibitions and stocks predominantly watercolour and oil landscapes.
The village includes a coaching inn, The Talbot Hotel, which dates back to 1453, as well as Drake's restaurant, which has been awarded a Michelin star and 3 AA rosettes. The village high street includes a small supermarket, cobblers and bakery. Aside from the Talbot Hotel/Inn there is the Jovial Sailor as a further larger than average, food-serving public house. Two other pubs in the village are The Anchor and The Half Moon.

Ripley Saturday Car Boot Sale - VIDEO TOUR (Ripley, Derbyshire, UK)
Visiting Ripley Saturday car boot in Derbyshire. It's pretty tough to find a decent car boot sale on a Saturday in the midlands, but this one was ok. It was £8 to sell, a bit steep, and £1 to buy.

Car boot sales or boot fairs are a form of market in which private individuals come together to sell household and garden goods. They are popular in the United Kingdom, where they are often referred to simply as 'car boots'. In America, you would call this a flea market, 'swap meet' (but without the Mexican folk lol), or maybe like a large 'neighborhood yard sale'.
Car boot sales are becoming prevalent across many cities and towns and have evolved from shady operations selling mass produced products, to anyone and everyone attempting to sell surplus household items. Some scientific research has studied people's shopping habits at car boot sales. These group of scientists see the rotation of surplus household stock as essential as it prevents waste and disposal costs, and also produces a small community where thriftiness and entrepreneurship flourish. The term car boot sale refers to the selling of items from a car's boot. Although a small proportion of sellers are professional traders selling goods, or indeed browsing for items to buy, most of the goods on sale are used personal possessions. Car boot sales are a way of attracting a large group of people in one place to recycle useful but unwanted domestic items that otherwise might have been thrown away. Car boot sales generally take place in the summer months. However, in a growing trend, indoor boot sales, and all-year hard-standing outdoor boot sales, are now appearing in some parts of the UK. Items for sale are extremely varied, including for example antiques and collectables, as in a flea market. Car boot sales are also very popular in parts of Australia, and have a growing presence in mainland Europe.

Save Our Ambulance Stations - Dennis Skinner At EMAS Unison Ripley Ambulance Campaign March
On the 24th November 2012, EMAS Unison March Organiser, Mark Hill and UNISON Lead, John McGrath organised a Campaign March in support of the protest against East Midlands Ambulance Service's plans to close Ambulance Stations across the region - replacing with large 'Hubs' in City Centres and small standby points in Rural Areas.
More than a hundred Staff and public marched through the town of Ripley - all protesting about East Midlands Ambulance Service' plans to replace 16 Ambulance Stations with just 2 Super Stations combined with a selection of 30 'Tactical Deployment Points' instead.
Emas-Unison state that this will result in inadequate emergency cover in mid Derbyshire. Ripley Ambulance Station has one of the longest histories in the Service and is also one of the biggest and serves a massive (and growing) local population and takes patients to a large.
Thanks must go to UNISON who have provided £20 000 of member money to help fight the Save Your Ambulance Station Campaign and in particular, to EMAS Unison Regional Organiser, Coral Jenkins and her team who have been very supportive throughout.
To date, Unison have collated over 10,000 signatures on a petition calling for these intended changes to be scrapped.
The defiant marchers set off from Butterley Park and walked through the Town Centre, along Oxford Street via the Ambulance Station then up to the Market Place.
There to greet and join them in their march, was the renowned and highly respected Bolsover MP. Dennis Skinner who gave a rousing and uplifting speech to the gathered crowds in attendance.
Lets us hope EMAS Management not only revise these drastic Ambulance Station closure plans - but reverse them completely.
Because - Once They're Gone - They're Gone. Forever.
