True crime fans gather in Nashville to talk murder, mystery
(5 May 2018) TRUE CRIME FANS GATHER IN NASHVILLE TO TALK MURDER, MYSTERY
The growth of true crime as a genre of books, movies, TV and podcasting has gotten so big, it's even got its own convention.
More than 3,000 fans of the genre are gathering this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, to listen to investigators, police, researchers, podcasters and writers, as well as TV stars from shows like Dateline and Nancy Grace.
Kevin Balfe, executive producer of CrimeCon, said he had long been a fan of the genre and had seen it grow exponentially in recent years.
I have been a big fan of shows like 'Dateline' for a long time and I think like everyone else when 'Serial' brought the podcasting side of true crime out, Balfe said.
And then a whole bunch of great true crime podcasters followed, 'Making a Murderer' was on its heels, the 'Jinx' on HBO. That whole sort of time period, for me really made me wonder why we weren't doing a ComicCon type of thing for this genre. You have world class creators, you have thousands of fans. Let's bring them all together and have an awesome weekend.
The trio behind the podcast called Wine and Crime were there to meet with their fans in person.
85 percent of our listeners are female and we've talked about this a little bit before, said Lucy Fitzgerald. We think that women are so frequently portrayed as the victims especially in true crime as an entertainment medium, so we're just trying to take a little bit of that power. And F the patriarchy.
But it's not just amateur sleuths and readers who attended the convention. Some victims of crime were there in the hopes that the fans could help them spread the word about unsolved cases.
Mike Patty is the grandfather of Liberty German, who was killed along with her friend Abigail Williams in Delphi, Indiana, in 2017. Their murderer has not yet been caught, but he was at the CrimeCon to speak about the investigation and to reach out to true crime fans for help.
We're here to spread awareness about our case, Patty said. It's still an active investigation and we still have a lot of tips. We received over 30,000 of them. But we're still looking for the one tip that's going to get this guy caught. We do as many shows, whatever we can do to help spread awareness about this.
But the big news of the weekend was the recent arrest of a man believed to be the Golden State Killer, who terrorized women in California in the 1970s and 1980s with rapes and murder.
Paul Haynes is a researcher and co-writer of the best seller I'll Be Gone in the Dark, a book on the killer.
I think true crime is mainstream now in a way that it's never really been, Haynes said. Obviously, 'In Cold Blood,' 'Helter Skelter' 'The Executioner's Song' There are great works of literature that are in the true crime genre, but now it's like there's a flood of output from this arena.
CrimeCon runs 4-6 May.

The Murder of Janet March (Crime Documentary)
On August 29, 1996, Janet Levine March (born February 20, 1963), a children's book illustrator in Forest Hills, Tennessee, United States, a suburb of Nashville, was reported missing to police by her husband and mother. Perry March, a lawyer, told police that he had last seen his wife when she left the house on the night of August 15, two weeks earlier, following an argument. He claimed she had packed her bags for a 12-day vacation at an unknown location and driven away. She was never seen alive by anyone else afterward.
Janet's car was found at a nearby apartment complex a week after the police report, apparently having been there for some time. Other evidence began to suggest that Perry had fabricated some evidence of his wife's supposed motive for departure, and attempted to tamper with or destroy other items that might have provided evidence. Police soon reclassified the case as a homicide, despite the absence of Janet's body, and named Perry as a suspect. Shortly afterward he moved back to his native Chicago area with the couple's two children. After his in-laws won visitation, he fled with the children to Mexico, where his father, Arthur, a former U.S. Army pharmacist, had retired. The case received attention in the national media, where it was the subject of two segments on the CBS News program 48 Hours.
For several years afterward, Perry fought his former in-laws in state and federal court over the administration of Janet's property and the status of his children. Janet was declared legally dead in 2000. Nashville police continued investigating the case and found further evidence suggesting Perry had, in fact, killed her. In late 2004 a grand jury indicted him on murder and other charges in her death; it was kept secret by police until the following year when they were able to arrange for him to be arrested in Mexico and extradited to Tennessee to face trial. While he was in jail, police learned that March was conspiring with his father and another inmate to have his in-laws killed; Arthur March was then arrested and extradited himself. After telling prosecutors that he had helped Perry move Janet's body to Kentucky, he agreed to cooperate with them and testify against his son in exchange for a reduced sentence; however, he was unable to recall exactly where he had disposed of the body and it has never been found. Arthur's plea bargain was rejected and he died in federal custody shortly after beginning his sentence.
Perry was convicted of all charges in 2006, despite the absence of Janet's body. He unsuccessfully appealed the conviction in state court, alleging some of the evidence had been gathered in violation of his constitutional rights. A federal appellate panel reviewing his later habeas petition agreed that the case presented some issues but did not feel it had the statutory authority to overturn the conviction on those grounds, and in any event, it found the evidence against Perry had been so overwhelming as to make those issues a harmless error. In 2015 the United States Supreme Court denied his certiorari petition, exhausting his appeals. He has maintained his innocence throughout the case and is currently serving his 56-year sentence at Tennessee's Morgan County Correctional Complex.

Multiple Murders Across Two States have Officals Working Together to Find Answers
Six people and an unborn child are now dead in a string of murders in and around Fayetteville. As well as the person authorities wanted to question. Early Tuesday Warren Crutcher a man listed as a person of interest in four of the murders was found dead and officers say it was not a suicide. We know that Crutcher and one of the female victims had a child together. But tonight investigators are not commenting on a possible motive in this string of unsolved murders. It all began at Fayetteville home in Lincoln County. We had a female who was six or 7 months pregnant along with her 18 month old son and another female in that residence on Huntsville highway, said Kristin Helm of the TBI.Sheriff's deputies identified the bodies of Amber McCaully was pregnant and Chabreya Campbell, along with her 18 month old son Rico Raglan, who is pictured on the right. Campbell's three year old son Vincent Crutcher was not hurt. That child is the one who actually called a friend of his mother on the telephone to let him know that was a terrible situation happening at the house and he was unharmed, added Helm.A fourth woman Jessica Brown was found murdered on Fox Wood Drive in Lincoln County. Investigators called the three year olds father Warren Crutcher as a person of interest. But early Tuesday he too was found murdered in the Hazel Green area.We really don't know anything about motive at this time we are still trying to of course develop a suspect, stated Helm.Officials in Madison County, Alabama say the murder of a sixth person in Huntsville. Jeffery Lamar Pope may also be connected to the killing spree. It is a case that has authorities in two states working to find answers.
Authorities Following Leads After Multi-State Killing Spree - John Dunn
October 24, 2012Investigators are still trying to solve a mystery that has left six people dead in two different states. The bodies have been discovered at four different crime scenes in Lincoln County Tennessee and Northern Alabama. The main person of interest in the case, is also one of the victims. People living near the Tennessee-Alabama border have watched the crime scenes multiply this week. It's hard to hear. You don't expect anything like that to happen in your own neighborhood, says neighbor Kristen Hamilton.Kristen Hamilton lives across the street from the house where Jessica Brown was murdered. It's the same home where Warren Crutcher, the person of interest in the case, had lived.I've seen him cut the neighbor's grass for free more than once. They seemed like nice people, just kept to themselves a lot, says Hamilton.Authorities say Crutcher also had relationships with two other women, Amber McCaulley and Chabreya Campbell, who were found dead inside a home on Huntsville Highway.Campbell's 18 old month old son, Rico Ragland, was also killed.Another man, who also knew Crutcher, Jeffrey Pope, was shot to death in Huntsville, Alabama. But it's another crime scene that has flipped the investigation on its head. It's a field on BH Reeves Road, where Warren Crutcher's body was found. He too was murdered. With the main person of interest in this case now dead, investigators in Alabama and Tennessee have a mystery to solve. There's a myriad of possibilities here, says Kristin Helm with the TBI.Agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation say it's still possible Warren Crutcher could be involved in the killings, because he knew, and in some cases, had close relationships with the victims. All of that leads us to believe that he either had information or was there, or had some involvement. The extent of that we don't know. If he was alone we don't know yet, says Helm.New reports indicate another man, Henry Burrell, is being held on a probation violation, and is being questioned about the murders, but he has not been charged in the murder case. The mystery continues. Detectives are trying to solve a puzzle with so many pieces.Tennessee investigators are working closely with Alabama detectives to solve this case. We're told several people are being interviewed, and evidence is being analyzed. For news updates follow John Dunn on twitter @WZTVJohnDunn

The Woman and the Dragon
1And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. 6And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
The War in Heaven
7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
The Dragon Persecutes the Woman
13And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. 14And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. 15And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. 16And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. 17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is LORD and Savior the Son of god raised from the dead.
All Glory to God.
Hallelujah.

4 INFAMOUS & CHILLING KILLERS OF THE 1980's
In a time known for big hair, roller skates and metal bands the 1980’s wasn’t all fun and games. It was also an era filled with some of the most notorious and terrifying serial killers to ever exist. These are 4 infamous and chilling killers of the 1980s.
4. Sunset Strip Killers
A former Naval Intelligence officer's son, Doug Clark moved all over the world while growing up. After graduating from Culver Military Academy, Clark enlisted in the Air Force but was discharged as it was clear his life was headed somewhere else. He ended up in Los Angeles, moving from job to job often being fired due to his violent temper. In his downtime he would hang out at one of his favorite clubs, Little Nashville. It was a seedy pub that occasionaly played live music and the plce where he met his partner in crime, Carol.
Carol M. Bundy grew up with two alcoholic parents. At a young age, her mother died and by 11, her father was sexually abusing her on a regular basis. At 17, she married then later on divorced her first husband who was 40 years her senior. At 37, she became infatuated with her apartment block manager and part time singer, Jack Murray, and would frequent the Little Nashville bar to watch him play.
3. Larry Eyler
Born in Indiana in1952 to a dysfunctional household, Larry Eyler grew up suffering abuse from his parents and stepfathers. The abuse was so horrific that the details have been prevented from being released and the state sought to remove him and have him live with relatives instead. As he grew older, Larry joined a monastery but left and ended up working low-paying odd jobs, including one as a house painter. The first time, his name signaled on police radar was when he stabbed an ex-marine who was hitchhiking in town.
This marine managed to get away and testified against Eyler. He was paid $2500 for his trouble and Eyler wasn't prosecuted. But two years after this incident, a good amount of bodies began to surface.
The first was found on March 22, 1982. Jay Reynolds body was brutally stabbed outside of Lexington, Kentucky. Then on October 3rd, 14-year old Delvoyd Baker's body was discovered
2. Andrei Chikatilo
Known as the Butcher of Rostov, it's no surprise Andrei Chikatilo is considered one of the most prolific and violent killers of the 1980s.
Andrei grew up in famine poor Russia. While he was a diligent student, he lacked social skills and had trouble forming relationships with women because he was impotent. After failing to enter Moscow State University, he went into National Service before becoming a telephone engineer. Since he was still unmarried, his sister and her husband, set him up with a local girl named Fayina. After two weeks, they were married out of convenience and despite Andrei’s problems in the bedroom; they were able to conceive two children.
Chikatilo then switched to becoming a teacher and it was here when he started sexually assaulting his students. Complaints about him started pouring in and he was forced to move from one school to another before settling in an area around Rostov.
His first known murder happened on December 22, 1978.
1. Jose Rodriguez Vega
Jose Rodriguez Vega was a serial killer from Santander, Spain. Nicknamed as El Mataviejas which translates to (The Old Lady Killer), he killed more than 16 women ages from 60 to 93 and had previously served a sentence for raping 5 younger women.
Vega grew up in a highly dysfunctional family. It's suspected his grandfather killed his grandmother- and his dad and brother are alcoholics. Meanwhile, his mother was a dominant and aggressive woman prone to violence. By the time Vega was 8, a 50-year old woman had sexually abused him and after this occurance he would masturbate consistently. At this time, he also noticed he was sexually attracted to his mother but kept these feelings a secret.
Vega was known to have a violent temper . By 21, Vega was arrested for raping two women and the attempted rape of three others. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison but the sentence was lowered to just 8 after Vega wrote letters to the victims asking for forgiveness. Four out of five victims forgave him and under Spanish law, this lowered his sentence.
So there were 4 INFAMOUS & CHILLING KILLERS OF THE 1980's
Murder knows no bounds. Despite these crimes happening decades ago, many of the victims of these killers still remain unidentified or unknown.
