National Videogame Arcade (Nottingham) - Opening Day Exclusive Look Around!
Opened to the public on Saturday 28th March is the UK's first video game experience and museum! The National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham is - the world’s first permanent centre to celebrate and explore videogame culture, in the heart of Nottingham City’s Creative Quarter.
Featuring arcade games, exhibitions, interactive displays and games, museum pieces, cinema, cafe, bar, and special evening events.. it's truly remarkable this exists!
Whilst it's still early days, a little expensive and I hope a lot more gets added to it (especially far more arcade machines - it's more of a museum and exhibition than an 'Arcade') it's certainly been good fun and very promising. Definitely worth at least a visit!

(Oh, and as I said in the video - first time using the GoPro and not used to it! Apologies if you can't make anything out, a little shaky at time, etc - also wasn't sure if I would be allowed to film or not so was trying to hide it away as best I can!!)

This store has been here for agesss!!! I don't know exactly how long, but I remember buying Super Punch Out! on the SNES here when I was a teenager (and that was some time ago!). One of the best Retro Video Game shops in the Midlands in my opinion (Excluding money-hungry pawn shops of course! nasty!).... No trip to Nottingham is complete without a visit to Playtime Video Games!

Nottingham is a city and unitary authority area in Nottinghamshire, England, located 128 miles north of London, in the East Midlands. Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle and tobacco industries. Nottingham was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2011, visitors spent over £1.5 billion – the thirteenth highest amount in England's 111 statistical territories.
Nottingham has an award-winning public transport system, including the largest publicly owned bus network in England and is also served by Nottingham railway station and the modern Nottingham Express Transit tram system.
Nottingham is also a major sporting centre, and in October 2015 was named 'Home of English Sport'. The National Ice Centre, Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, and Trent Bridge international cricket ground are all based in or around the city, which is also the home of two professional league football teams; the world's oldest professional league club Notts County, and Nottingham Forest, famously two-time winners of the UEFA European Cup under Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980. The city also has professional rugby, ice hockey and cricket teams, and the Aegon Nottingham Open, an international tennis tournament on the ATP and WTA tours. This accolade came just over a year after Nottingham was named as the UK's first City of Football.
On 11 December 2015, Nottingham was named a City of Literature by UNESCO, joining Norwich, Melbourne, Prague and Barcelona as one of only a handful in the world. The title reflects Nottingham's literary heritage, with Lord Byron, DH Lawrence and Alan Sillitoe having links to the city.
It has two universities, the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, which are attended by over 70,610 students—with 43,765 at the University of Nottingham, and Nottingham Trent University having 26,845, according to the respective University websites.

GameCity Prize - What's the point of videogames?
***Some users have experienced quality issues with the audio of this video. It should be fine if played through external speakers or headphones.***
To launch the GameCity Prize 2012, GameCity hosted an event held at the BFI Southbank to pose the question What's the point of videogames? to a panel of cultural experts.
Chaired by Lord David Puttnam, the panel comprised comedian and author Charlie Higson, industry luminary Ian Livingstone OBE, Financial Times columnist Lucy Kellaway, broadcaster and former director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts Ekow Eshun, Helen Lewis of the New Statesman and Labour MP Tom Watson.
Following the debate, GameCity Director Iain Simons unveiled the jury for the GameCity Prize 2012.
