Walton-on-the-Naze is a small town in Essex, England, on the North Sea coast in the Tendring district. It is north of Clacton and south of the port of Harwich. It abuts Frinton-on-Sea to the south, and is part of the parish of Frinton and Walton. It is a resort town, with a permanent population of about 6,000. It is in the civil parish of Frinton and Walton. It attracts many visitors, The Naze being the main attraction. There is also a pier.
The parish was earlier known as Eadolfenaesse and then Walton-le-Soken. The name 'Walton' is a common one meaning a 'farmstead or village of the Britons', while 'Soken' denotes the soke (an area of special jurisdiction) that included Thorpe, Kirby and Walton; which were not under the see of London but under the chapter of St Paul's Cathedral.
Walton has an HM Coastguard team and houses Thames MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre), organising rescues from Southwold to Herne Bay. Walton-on-the-Naze railway station is on a branch of the Sunshine Coast Line. Along the coast there are many fossils to be found. Some rocks go up to 50 million years old. Including red crag and London clay.
The Naze is a peninsula north of the town. It is important for migrating birds and has a small nature reserve. The marshes of Hamford Water behind the town are also of ornithological interest, with wintering ducks and brent geese. Many Bird watchers visit at migration times. The Hanoverian tower (more commonly known as the Naze Tower) at the start of the open area of the Naze was a sea mark to assist ships on this otherwise fairly featureless coast.
Originally, Walton was a farming village situated miles inland. Over the centuries large quantities of land were lost to the sea due to coastal erosion. The medieval village of Walton now lies nine miles out to sea with its old church finally succumbing in July 1798. Its last service was held on 22 July 1798. This loss of land to the sea is a fact recorded on a Canon's stall in St Paul's Cathedral with the inscription Consumpta per Mare.
In 1895, the Walton-on-the-Naze hotel and pier company (then owners of the pier) opened a replacement pier 500 ft longer (150 m) than the original. Several extensions have increased the pier's length to 2,600 ft (790 m), the third longest in the UK. When the new pier opened in 1895, an electric tramway was installed to take passengers from the steamers to the front of the pier. This was in use until 1935 when it was upgraded to a battery-powered carriage. In 1945 fire damaged the pier, and the carriage was replaced by a diesel locomotive train. This was removed during the 1970s. Today, the pier remains a popular attraction, with amusements and funfair rides in a hangar-type building. Beyond this, the pier extends into a promenade popular with anglers.

Beach Wild Camping at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex. Wild Country Terra Nova Zephyros 1.
Join us on another wild camp as we head to the Essex coast for abit of time together. Parking up in the town of Walton and taking a fairly light weight set up of around 10kg we headed north up the coast, along the nature reserve until we finally reached the furthest northern point call Stone Point where we were greeted by the most beautiful and tranquil setting we have encountered so far on a camp. After spending abit of quality time together sunbathing and paddling about in the sea as the temperatures reached the high 20's by the evening we eventually have the area to ourselves and were treated to the most amazing sunset, marooned by the high tide on our own little desert island..
Hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed our time together making this one.

Walton on the Naze, River Blackwater, Naze Tower (Hanoverian Tower) - Easter 2015
First montage with the Inspire 1 compiled using movie maker.
Filmed around Walton-on-the-Naze on the east coast of England around the Hanoverian Tower (Naze Tower - showing some picaresque views of the River Blackwater - Naze Tower is privately owned hosting a 111-step spiral staircase and features a museum with a nice Café. You can eat inside or alfresco which is nice on the right day. The video captures a shot of the Crag Walk coastal defence.
I have already filmed and intend to make videos for other parts of River Blackwater including Osea Island, Northey Island and some of the Maldon Coastline and will post them as soon as I can find the right kind of royalty free tracks... the search can take some time. I also have caught a nice 360 shot of Radio Caroline which I will edit in to one of the videos where appropriate.
