WONDERFUL BOAT BUILDERS OF GERMANY
When you think about yacht builders in Germany, most likely brands come to mind that build enormous giga yachts that are far outside the spending power of most mortals. However, there is also a very active yacht building industry in Germany producing both power and sailing yachts that offer great value for money and are achievable to a far larger demographic. When I researched this vlog I was surprised to learn that many of these builders belong to the same Group of companies. This vlog takes a look at Hanse Group, and some of the wonderful craft that they build.

Initially this craft was based around the south-eastern coast of Britain, known as 'Hellfire Corner'. The RAF Air Sea Rescue motto was 'The Sea shall not have them'.
The Type 2 was seen as the ultimate machine at the time and many aircrews owed their lives to the ability of the launch and its crews to be able to detect and rescue them with speed and efficiency.

The size of PT's varied somewhat. Of the first experimental boats, some were 58 feet overall, others 81 feet. The first satisfactory boats, copied from a British design, were 70 feet. These boats, built by the Elco Naval Division of the Electric Boat Co. at Bayonne, N.J., were designed to carry four 18inch (diameter) torpedoes. While this was a standard British size, the United States had only a small stock of these torpedoes and had none in production. Accordingly, the size of the boat was increased to carry four of the heavier and longer 21-inch torpedoes, standard U.S. Navy size. So the next boats were the 77-foot Elco models which saw service at Pearl Harbor and in the Philippines. Finally, demands for heavier armament and better seakeeping qualities led to still larger boats; the 78-foot model built by Higgins Industries at New Orleans, and the Elco 80-footer. The Higgins 78-footer and the Elco so were of comparable size, both considerably larger boats, because of raised freeboard, than the Elco 77.

Victoria Quays (formerly Sheffield Canal Basin) is a large canal basin in Sheffield, England. It was constructed 1816--1819 as the terminus of the Sheffield Canal (now part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation) and includes the former coal yards of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway.The basin ceased operation as a cargo port in 1970 and the site and buildings were largely neglected. A restoration and redevelopment of 1992--1994 reopened the site providing new office and business space and leisure facilities as well as berths for leisure canal boats. There are a number of Grade II listed buildings on the site. These include the original Terminal Warehouse of 1819, the Straddle Warehouse (1895--1898), a grain warehouse (c1860), and a curved terrace of coal merchant's offices (c1870)

Victoria Quays Marina
Calder Valley Marine now occupy offices and the waterspace at the prestigious Victoria Quays in Sheffield and will be operating the Quays as a fully operational marina. This is excellent news for this business which has been based primarily in the West Yorkshire area.
Victoria Quays is only a matter of yards from the city's Castle Market which is situated close to Sheffield City Centre.
Victoria Quays lies on the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and is situated just 5 minutes drive from jct. 33 on the M1, the area was regenerated in the early nineties by British Waterways with the conversion of warehouses and the railway arches together with the construction of new commercial buildings within and around the Quays.
One of the most striking and interesting of these is the historic Straddle building which as the name suggests straddles the whole canal basin has been converted into office space and residential use. It was built by the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation Company between 1895 & 1898.
Calder Valley Marine plan to turn the Victoria Quays into thriving bustling marina, the intent is to invest in the Quays to provide the facilities such as diesel gas and chandlery plus new and pre-owned boat sales, they will also provide a full time presence at the Quays in a bid to provide the modern discerning boater the things he/she requires in the twenty first century.
Since the takeover of the marina Gordon Lambert, managing Director of Calder Valley Marine has negotiated a deal with Tim Tyler and Jonathan Wilson of Tyler/Wilson Boatbuilders and are now able to offer the high quality shell to the public .
Many examples of their work are available to view for the public to view in a non factory setting, but accompanied factory tours will be available upon request.
This will enable Tim & Jonathan to concentrate on what they do best which is build the high quality steelwork they have built a reputation for the length and breadth of the Country

A first-person perspective London walk tour from Charing Cross Station to Holborn Station via St Martin's Lane and Long Acre.
See all the sights as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring a stroll through Central London. The route begins on the Strand outside Charing Cross Station, then travels to and up St Martin's Lane, next bearing north-east along Long Acre and then onto Great Queen Street, finally turning north up Kingsway, concluding outside Holborn Station.
Sights seen along the tour include Charing Cross Station with the Eleanor Cross out front, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Edith Cavell Memorial, London Coliseum, The Duke of York's Theatre, Noël Coward Theatre, Browns Covent Garden, Marks & Spencer Covent Garden, Covent Garden Station, Freemasons' Hall (United Grand Lodge of England), Aviation House, and Holborn Station.
