The Greenway, Stratford Upon Avon
A 20 minute cycle ride from Long Marston to Stratford Upon Avon via Milcote along what is commonly know as the 'Greenway'. It was once part of the Great Western Railway line between Stratford-upon-Avon and Honeybourne. Trains continued to pass along the line until November 1976 when the line itself was closed. The Line was left in dis-repair until it was opened as the Greenway in 1989. I've cycled along here many times and this recording was done on a very quiet and dry day (Thursday 21st May 2015). At weekends and Bank Holidays it can be very busy, but still lovely to walk, cycle, jog or just sit on one of the many benches and listen to the birds and country sounds... It changes though the year and can be a different experience each time. If you're visiting Stratford and you'd like to experience the Greenway ask any local and they will point you in the right direction.

Drama: Shakespeare (1564 – 1616)
Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. Although he __________ 36 plays and over 150 sonnets, we know very few facts about Shakespeare’s life. We know that he was a play-wright in London, and that __________ of his greatest works were first performed at the Globe Theatre, on the bank of the River Thames. Literature: Charles Dickens (1812 – 1870)
Charles Dickens was recognised as the greatest living writer of his day and was admired by the Establishment, but he was essentially a subversive writer who fought injustice. In many of his books, such as Oliver Twist and Hard Times, Dickens described the terrible ________________ of the poorest members of Victorian society. Dickens’ own father had been sent to a debtors’ prison when Charles was 12 years old, so he had first-hand experience of the poverty of many of his ___________________.
