Witney - Sheep Shearing - Extra! (1969)
Title: Extra!
Sheep shearing in Witney, Oxfordshire. Record breaking attempt: firm of blanket makers attempt to turn raw fleece into blankets in fastest time.
L/S of old country house. C/U of sheep in pen. M/S man in mayoral chains, the Chairman of the Urban District Council, gives orders for start . C/U another man starting a stop watch. Various shots men sheering 150 sheep. Various night shots of men running down country road and into barn with bundles of raw fleece. The fleece is weighed on scales.
Various shots inside factory showing industrial process that turns raw fleece into yarn. We then see the yarn being woven into blankets and dyed. The blankets are stitched by room full of seamstresses. The blankets are folded and packed into special gold boxes. C/U of clock. According to narrator the time taken is 8 hours and 11 minutes.
Various shots helicopter taking off outside factory. Factory workers wave and clap. Point of view from inside helicopter as it approaches airport. M/S Charles Earley (sp.?), teenage son of firm's proprietor, hands over golden box to air hostess on steps of airliner. Various shots of Pan American aeroplane taking off.
The blankets are destined for New York, Paris, Milan and London - to be displayed in shop windows that day. Two will be displayed at international wool headquarters as part of special exhibition.

Witney Badger Rally
Witney, Oxfordshire, the Prime Minister David Cameron's constituency. Protestors of the senseless and devastating English badger cull gather at a rally. The speaker, Dominic Dyer, of Care for the Wild International, gives an eloquent and passionate speech which shows that there is no scientific or environmental reason for carrying on this cruel policy.

The last train from Witney to Fairford 1962
Film of the last ever train journey on the Witney to Fairford line. Date was June 11th 1962 and recorded on 8mm cine film by my father. Scripted and narrated by my father who did amazing things given the technology available at the time. Hope you enjoy this short film.

A group of students from the Abingdon and Witney College have taken over an empty shop in Witney's High Street for their new art exhibition. The display, called 57 varieties, represents the many different types of art on show. BBC Oxford's Paul Jenner paid them a visit.

Asphalt Driveway, removed and replaced, start to finish
Asphalt Driveway, removed and replaced, start to finish. Driveway was starting to really deteriorate so the old asphalt hardtop was removed, new stone dust was packed and new hardtop was installed. He asphalt was sloped to drain water towards the street and extended to the width of the property line where some grass was removed.
