Apocalypse, Master of Sarum. illuminator
Publication date: 1240-1250 Type: Salisbury (England). - The manuscript is part of an artistic family grouping the oldest island copies of the Apocalypse: cf. Delisle, L'Apocalypse in French, 1901. . Illuminated Manuscripts of Island Origin The Apocalypse of John the Divine, London, 1876), two copies of the same original by different artists (Berger, French Bible in the Middle Ages, p 80). The illustration of the French 403 is, however, clearly superior and the artist has been identified as the Master of Sarum, author of two other masterpieces: the Amesbury Psalter (Oxford, All Souls College, ms. 6) and the Henry Chichester Missal (Manchester, John Rylands Library, ms. 24). 90 paintings: 12 divided two by page with the preceding leaflets following the text of the Apocalypse (1, 1v, 2, 43v, 44, 44v), illustrating the life of Saint John, and 78 on half-page occupying the upper half of each folio, above the text of the Apocalypse: cf. April and Stirnemann, Illuminated Manuscripts of Island Origin ..., No. 123. According to Félix Lecoy, a leaflet missing between the ff. 17 and 18 would have consisted of two paintings representing, one the miracles of the Antichrist, the other the Antichrist enthroned in the Temple (see Otaka and H. Fukui, Apocalypse ..., 6). The painter has kept inside the scenes the banners or cartridges containing the explanatory legends of the scenes in the manuscripts of the same family. The images being in the ms. English 403 followed by the text, these banners remained empty: cf. ff. 13v, 14, 15, 16v, 17, 23v, 24, 26, 26v, 27, 27v, 28, etc.) See the detail of the iconography, The Apocalypse in French in the 13th century, Paris, 1901. Tommy Steele and The Glenn Miller Show - London Coliseum
Tommy Steele returns to the London Coliseum 60 years after starring in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella
From Friday 6th July - Saturday 18 Aug 2018
As his legion of fans already know, Tommy Steele – Britain’s first Rock and Roll Star – made his legitimate debut in 1958 starring in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, which enjoyed a sold out run at the London Coliseum. What they probably don’t know is that the inspiration for Tommy’s extraordinary career was an American band leader whose music Tommy had worshiped from the moment he first heard it in his early teens.
And so, 60 years on, Tommy Steele returns to the London Coliseum to salute his idol Glenn Miller, in a new musical celebration…
Featuring the authentic sounds of ‘In the Mood’, ‘Moonlight Serenade’, ‘Little Brown Jug’, ‘Pennsylvania 6-5000’, ‘Tuxedo Junction’, ‘Chattanooga Choo Choo’, and many more…
…the life, fame and untimely death of the big band leader whose music defined an era is celebrated in The Glenn Miller Show.

Grandsire Cinques at Grundisburgh, Suffolk
The second (I think) course of the new year's eve peal at Grundisburgh, Suffolk. These are a really really tough twelve to strike accurately...packing a twelve into such a small village church means the tower moves considerably and most of the bells drop like stones unpredictably and frequently. It's not so bad on lower numbers, but when all 12 are going they are a tricky ring of bells. Having said that, I do have a perverse liking for them.
These were formerly the lightest ring of 12 in the world at 8-0-23 but the 2008 Taylor tenor weighing 9-2-24 means Bitterne Park are now lighter. The new tenor is a bit of a disappointment sound-wise in my opinion and of course the extra weight does the tower no good at all...
