Cherry Church Video 2
This video is of the exterior and grave yarde of the Cherry Gardens Uniting Church in the South Australian Adelaide Hills. It was opened in 1849 and is the oldest former Wesleyan Methodist Church still in active use in South Australia. Prior to the church opening, services were conducted in family homes from around 1838. Now a Uniting Church, many descendants of pioneer families regularly visit or hold reunions here. This video includes the gravestones of Donnell, Field, Broadbent and Jacobs families, early pioneers of the Cherry Gardens district. There is also the stone for the Bails family, although they are not buried at this site.
The Church has three stained glass windows, one of which commemorates those from the district who died in the First World War. A Memorial Board also names all those who attended the local school who served in that war.
The Church and the Cherry Gardens Garden Club are continuing to develop the gardens around the church. It is in a beautiful setting, surrounded by farm land.
