Charlotte Mardi Gras Parade of Beads
Mardi Gras is coming back to Charlotte and is BIGGER than ever!
The EpiCentre and all of it's tenants bring you the Parade of Beads, Friday, February 8th starting at 7pm.
During the week prior to Fat Tuesday the EpiCentre will be transformed into the New Orleans French Quarter with decorations, special creole menus, and more.
Creole Gardens Art Exhibit 7/08
Artist in residence Manfred at the New Orleans guest house, the Creole Gardens, does a video walk through of the exhibit while his friend Bill Sabatier plays piano and says things... on a slow not too hot late July afternoon. The exhibit features early (30 years ago) work as well as the very recent. There are portraits of New Orleans artists such as Professor Longhair, Charles Neville and George Dureau. Tribute is made to such artists as Picasso, Leonardo, Van Gogh and most recently Albrecht Durer. The overriding theme is New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina through the eyes of a high school art teacher in the Talented Visual Arts Program.
Liberty Chronicles, Ep. 22; Creoleness and Cruelty in Colonial Louisiana
For two decades, New Orleans was a town with about 400 riotous, irreligious, desperate individuals. Jean-Baptiste, Sieur de Bienville always hoped the French Empire would take more interest in the area--it was the gateway to wider America, the key to the continent’s greatest river, its richest soils, and a highway for the Indian trade. If only it actually had people in it!

A gloomy sky view of New Orleans and the cemetery.
The beautiful city of New Orleans. Beads and boobs all around. I took to the sky once I had the opportunity. It had rained all week, and there was a thick fog all around. When the clouds cleared momentarily, I shot this footage by Coliseum Square Park. From there I ventured towards the Mississippi River, the French Quarter, and to the Terrell House Bed and Breakfast. Louisiana has incredible food (Mothers on Poydras), and unique cemeteries all around. When the weather permits, maybe I'll fly around some alligators.

Active Matter Summit: Session 6
In recent decades, developments in software and hardware technologies have created dramatic shifts in design, manufacturing and research. Software technologies have facilitated automated process and new solutions for complex problems. Computation has also become a platform for creativity through generative art and design. New hardware platforms and digital fabrication technologies have similarly transformed manufacturing, offering more efficient production and mass customization. Such advances have helped catalyzed the maker-movement, democratizing design and maker culture. This influx of new capabilities to design, compute and fabricate like never before, has sparked a renewed interest in material performance.
We are now witnessing significant advances in active matter, 3D/4D Printing, materials science, synthetic biology, DNA nanotechnology and soft robotics, which have led to the convergence of software, hardware and material technologies and the growing field of programmable materials.
This conference was about the emerging field of active matter and programmable materials that bridges the worlds of art, science, engineering and design, demonstrating new perspectives for computation, transformation and dynamic material applications.
If over the past few decades we have experienced a software revolution, and more recently, a hardware revolution, this conference aims to discuss the premises, challenges and innovations brought by today’s materials revolution. We can now sense, compute, and actuate with materials alone, just as we could with software and hardware platforms previously. How does this shift influence materials research, and how does it shape the future of design, arts, and industrial applications? What tools and design processes do we need to advance, augment and invent new materials today? What are the key roles that industry, government, academic and public institutions can play in catalyzing the field of programmable materials?
This two-day conference consisted of a range of talks and lively discussion from leading researchers in materials science, art & design, synthetic biology and soft-robotics along with leaders from government, public institutions and industry.

He was trained as a radio operator and was promoted to the rank of Buck Sergeant due to his exemplary conduct in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. The 70th Regiment relieved Marine artillery batteries during the battle and suffered many casualties during this conflict. Frediani also made military tours of Bougainville Island and Lae in Papua New Guina and the Philippines. He received six medals for his time served in the Army. After the war, Frediani married his sweetheart and raised a son. Later in life he served as the Chaplain of his local Veteran of Foreign Wars Association and was a respected member of his community.

Storytelling with Connie Regan-Blake & Barbara Freeman
An evening of storytelling with Connie Regan-Blake and Barbara Freeman. In the 1970s, the cousins were both working at the Chattanooga Public Library, Freeman as children's librarian and Regan-Blake as a full-time storyteller for a special outreach program called MORE. In 1973, they attended the first National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn. There they met Ray and Rosa Hicks of Beech Mountain, N.C., who became lasting friends and mentors. They realized they had a special gift for telling stories, and left their careers at the library to perform nationally and internationally as the Folktellers. Regan-Blake and Freeman pioneered tandem telling, a type of duet storytelling performance. In addition to performances, the Folktellers have produced three albums and a play, Mountain Sweet Talk.
Speaker Biography: Storyteller and author Connie Regan-Blake established the traveling storytelling team the Folktellers with her cousin, Barbara Freeman, in 1973. She was a founding member of the National Storytelling Network or NSN (formerly the National Association for the Preservation and the Perpetuation of Storytelling or NAPPS). Regan-Blake served as the group's artistic director from 1975 until 1983. She was awarded the Circle of Excellence in 1996 by the National Storytelling Network. The Folktellers also toured across the country, performing at folk festivals, including the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington D.C. Regan-Blake and Freeman eventually moved on to solo careers, and both are internationally recognized storytellers.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is a men's professional basketball league in North America; composed of 30 teams (29 in the United States and 1 in Canada). It is widely considered to be the premier men's professional basketball league in the world. The NBA is an active member of USA Basketball (USAB),[2] which is recognized by FIBA (also known as the International Basketball Federation) as the national governing body for basketball in the United States. The NBA is one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. NBA players are the world's best paid athletes by average annual salary per player.
The league was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).[1][5] The league adopted the name National Basketball Association on August 3, 1949, after merging with its rival National Basketball League (NBL). The league's several international as well as individual team offices are directed out of its head offices located in the Olympic Tower at 645 Fifth Avenue in New York, NY. NBA Entertainment and NBA TV studios are directed out of offices located in Secaucus, New Jersey.
The NBA originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is located in Canada.
The current league organization divides thirty teams into two conferences of three divisions with five teams each. The current divisional alignment was introduced in the 2004–05 season. Reflecting the population distribution of the United States and Canada as a whole, most teams are in the eastern half of the country: thirteen teams are in the Eastern Time Zone, nine in the Central, three in the Mountain, and five in the Pacific.
The Boston Celtics have won the most championships with 17 NBA Finals wins. The second most successful franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have 16 overall championships (11 in Los Angeles, 5 in Minneapolis). Following the Lakers, are the Chicago Bulls with six championships, all won over an 8-year span during the 1990s. The San Antonio Spurs have five championships, all since 1999, and the Golden State Warriors also have five championships overall (2 in Philadelphia, 3 in Oakland).
