Sheffield: Guide and History
Sheffield is one of Britain's great cities. From a hill overlooking the city, narrator, Geoff Druett, looks at the early history of the city. We then move down to Kelham Island and the canal basin, before visting the Cathedral and Town Hall areas. We pass through the Peace Gardens, along the Winter Garden to the city's Cultural Quarter: Tudor Square. We end with views of the Botanical Gardens and the view from Stanage Edge (the Peak District) where you can see Sheffield sat in a bowl, surrounded by seven hills.

This video documents the Sheffield Great Flood of 2007, From before the start, during, including helicopter rescues to counting the costs afterwards.
The day for Sheffield, a northern English city started as usual, wet and rainy, yes there have been forecasts for a wet June and possible flooding in Northern England, but Sheffielders felt safe in the knowledge that their hilly city is not prone to flooding.
Not even Sheffielders remember when the last big flood occurred. Digging back into history you would have to back nearly 150 years to 1864 when the Dale Dyke Dam burst......
SHEFFIELD yorkshire ENGLAND
The population of the City of Sheffield is estimated at 516,100 people (2004),[1] and it is one of the eight largest English cities outside London that form the English Core Cities Group. The city has become world famous for its production of steel. Many innovations in the industry have been developed locally, including crucible and stainless steel. This fuelled an almost tenfold increase in the population since the start of Industrial Revolution. It gained its city charter in 1893 and became officially titled the City of Sheffield. International competition caused a decline in local industry during the 1970s and 1980s, affecting Sheffield's population. In recent years the city has attempted to reinvent itself as a sporting and technology city; there are signs that this is reversing its fortunes. WIKIPEDIA

Wortley top forge to lowoods. river don sheffield
a short paddle with my mate from wortley top forge to lowoods club on a rainy saturday afternoon in January. before this we did the little don (porter) from where it comes out under the steel works to lowoods. fun, filmed but not worth posting a vid as just not enough water. needs another foot minimum to make both rivers fun. bit too scrapy in some parts. low water levels to see what the river had in store for us. should be fun at higher level. not sure about the main weir though. could be an uncomfortable drop. stone underneath at odd levels.
fun kayaking though but the hail and thunderstorm was a little chilly
