The Sooke Region Museum (40 minutes drive from downtown Victoria, along the Sooke Road/Hwy 14) has an extensive archive and a significant collection of photographs, machinery and artifacts from Sooke's past. The main Museum building, contains many exhibits as well as an art gallery, Gift Shop and Visitor Information Centre.There are special displays and artifacts found outside on the Museum grounds. These include a working restored steam engine yarder, blacksmith shop, and a rotating lighthouse light.

Old Growth Walk on Meares Island, Tofino, British Columbia
Meares Island is famous throughout the world as a beautiful, wild island of pristine old-growth forest with ancient Cedars, some 18.3 feet in circumference, Spruce and Hemlock rising high into the sky.
The Hanging Garden tree is estimated to be more than 2,000 years old.

Chemainus is a community on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Founded as a logging town in 1858, the town is now famous for its 39 outdoor murals. This outdoor gallery has given birth to 300 businesses, including a theatre, antiques dealers, and eateries. The tourist industry stemming from the murals saved the town after its mill closed in the early 1980s. A resident of Chemainus is known as a Chemainiac.
Chemainus TheatreThe name Chemainus comes from the native shaman and prophet Tsa-meeun-is (Broken Chest). Legend says that the man survived a massive wound in his chest to become a powerful chief. His people took his name to identify their community, Chemainus First Nation.
The railroad arrived in the 1880s and by the early 1920s the town's population had ballooned to 600 persons. Today, Chemainus has a population of approximately 5,000.
Chemainus Secondary School is located in the town, and serves as a secondary school for students living in Chemainus, Crofton, and Saltair.
A BC Ferry terminal is located in Chemainus, which provides service to Thetis Island and Penelakut Island (previously Kuper).

A Seal Near a Seal Petroglyph: East Sooke Park
We went for a hike around East Sooke Park, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The park has a few interesting petroglyphs. As we got close to the seal glyph, we saw a seal near the beach. The angle we saw him from let us see him swimming underwater. Looks like the person or people who made the petroglyph knew what they were talking about.

The park is well worth visiting, with lots of trails, allowing for short or longer hikes.

East Sooke Park - Coast Trail Hike from Aylard Farm
The hike along the southern section of the Coast Trail in East Sooke Park. The route starts from Aylard Farm and follows the Coast Trail along the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Beechey Head, before returning via the Interior forest trails.
Points of interest along the route include the Petroglyphs near Alldridge Point and the views from Creyke Point and Beechey Head.

Sidney Helps Museum Celebrate History, Part 2
The Fredericton Region Museum held an event in recognition of local artist Linda J. Bartlett on Wednesday August 7th. In addition to the history inspired art was the opportunity to hear the music of the 2013 Inishowen fiddle winner, Sidney Murgatroyd.
The hand-crafted fiddle was gifted to the Irish Canadian Cultural Association of New Brunswick to represent the strong connection between Ireland and the province. Each year the fiddle is handed to a young fiddler who has shown tremendous dedication and promise.
Sidney treated museum guests with reels, jigs, hornpipes and a waltz or two!
