Avengers at Stapleford
In the spring of 1965 the cast and crew of the television series the Avengers stayed at Stapleford Park near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, and filmed action sequences on the miniature railway there for the episode 'The Gravediggers'.
Almost fifty years later the trains are still running, the landscape hasn't changed and the long summer of the 1960s continues...

Hotel weddings don’t necessarily mean having to miss out on a traditional church ceremony, for this imposing stately home offers blessings at its very own Church of St Mary Magdalene in the grounds. Alternatively, The Orangery and The Morning Rooms are available for civil ceremonies (up to 50 or 30 guests, respectively). The Grand Hall is a magnificent space to celebrate in style, but for smaller gatherings there are three private dining rooms, which can host up to 180. Weddings here are hassle-free as the well-connected planning team can arrange everything from flowers to pre-wedding pampering sessions in the spa, housed in a former stable block. The Capability Brown-designed grounds make the perfect backdrop for photographs. Wedgewood, with its white four-poster, is ideal for the bride and groom.

Stapleford Miniature Railway in the mid 60s (no sound)
This footage was recorded by my late father, Jim Stuart, during a family outing to Stapleford Park in Leicestershire, UK, some time around 1966/7. The 8mm Kodak cine film then lay forgotten in a wooden trunk for about half a century before being re-discovered and digitised in 2018.
Motive power at the time was the two original Curwen Atlantics and the diesel. The two miniature ocean liners were operating on the lake and the lion park was also open.
