The Kaimanawa Wall - Investigating the Mysterious Stone Structure | Taupo | New Zealand
The Kaimanawa Wall. Man-made megalithic structure or volcanic freak of nature?
In October 2016, I spent a few days in the Central North Island region of New Zealand.
On day 3, I went exploring around Taupo, Kinloch, Reid's Farm Recreation Reserve, the Huka Falls, Aratiatia Dam and the Kaimanawa Forest.
There are two prevailing views on the origin of the Kaimanawa Wall: The first, the wall is a naturally formed rock formation with fractures caused by cooling. The second is that the wall is a man-made megalith, perhaps built by ancient inhabitants of New Zealand that pre-date the Maori.
I've been to visit the wall once before ( but I wanted to see it again and examine the gaps between the blocks. Unfortunately, I arrived at the wall in the evening as the sun was setting and it was becoming quite dark in the forest. I didn't have enough time to finish investigating the wall nor have adequate light for filming and photographing. I plan to return again to the wall in February 2017, at an earlier time in the day.
Some speculate that the Kaimanawa Wall is evidence of New Zealand inhabitants that pre-date Maori. You can learn more about these theories by watching the following multipart documentaries on YouTube:

The Kaingaroa Rock Carvings - A Little Known Secret - Ancient New Zealand
The Kaingaroa Rock Carvings are on the walls of a hidden rock shelter in the Kaingaroa Forest. The trail leading to the rock carvings is unmarked and known only to a few, mostly locals.
The Kaingaroa Forest is on the Kaingaroa Plains between Rotorua and Murupara.
The artist(s) that carved the walls are unknown. When the site was discovered by the NZ State Forest Service in 1925, the Ngati Manawa people living in the area knew nothing of the rock shelter. They had been there for 12 generations, so it is possible that an earlier people carved them. Ngati Manawa had defeated Te Marangaranga, the previous inhabitants of the area, whom perhaps made the rock carvings, but there is no way to be sure it was them.
Some speculate that these rock carvings are evidence of New Zealand inhabitants that pre-date Maori. You can learn more about these theories by watching the following multipart documentaries on YouTube:

The Kaimanawa wall located on the North Island of New Zealand is a real enigma. It does not match any works of the Native Maori people, so could it be older??? And who made it?

Rotorua Canopy Tours - Awesome Ziplining Through the Trees | New Zealand
My SUPER FUN experience ziplining through and over the trees with Rotorua Canopy Tours. If you're travelling in New Zealand or living in Rotorua, this is one activity well worth doing! Put it on your things to do list. It's the best!
In October 2016, I spent a few days in the Central North Island region of New Zealand.
On day 6, I made the journey home from Taupo to Wellington. However, I didn't take a direct route, instead opting to come back via Rotorua for some adventure and exploring. My first stop was the Rotorua Canopy Tours for zip lining (flying fox) and feeding a bird a worm on my hand. The next stop was lunch by Lake Rotorua. After that, I continued north to Okere Falls where there was beautiful jade water and the ruins of an old powerhouse. Finally I headed southward, bound for Wellington with a stop at Kerosene Creek to soak my feet in the hot springs and a stop on the Rangipo Desert to watch the sunset behind Mount Ruapehu. It was magic!

The Huka Falls | Taupo, New Zealand
In October 2016, I spent a few days in the Central North Island region of New Zealand.
On day 3, I went exploring around Taupo, Kinloch, Reid's Farm Recreation Reserve, the Huka Falls, Aratiatia Dam and the Kaimanawa Forest.
This is a short video of the beautiful Huka Falls on the Waikato River. The water is teal coloured and flows from Lake Taupo, through the falls and on into the Aratiatia Dam. Jetboating and a river cruise are great ways to see the waterfalls and river.
