Eating and exploring in Glasgow
Glasgow, Scotland's second city is a fascinating place to explore and is known for having some of the best eating experiences in Scotland. There is a lot to see in the city, including the Glasgow Cathedral and Necropolis, the Botanical Gardens, the Glasgow University and the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery and the amazing murals that dot the cities walls.
We ate some great food in Glasgow, including a meal at Ox and Finch, which serves tapas style dishes built around Scottish ingredients and at The Hanoi Bike Shop for surprisingly good Vietnamese street food.
Bigger and busier than Edinburgh, Glasgow has a lot to offer to visitors who take the time to explore it.
Let's Talk Glasgow: Taste our Best
Patrick O’Shaughnessy, VisitScotland Taste Our Best Project Manager talks to GlasgowMajorEvents.com about the quality assurance scheme - Taste Our Best.
Taste Our Best is a joint initiative between VisitScotland and the Scottish Government, with support from Scotland Food and Drink, which aims to form stronger links between the places people visit and the food and drink experiences on offer.
As part of the scheme, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, takeaways, cafes, visitor attractions and pubs or bars are assessed on not just the quality of their food and drink offering but also how they include and promote Scottish produce on their menus to give consumers choice.
Let's Talk Glasgow is a series of videos, which aim to engage with event organisers and tourism businesses across Glasgow to inspire, develop, and grow within their business.

Glasgow a wee tourist tour: Scotland!
Glasgow , Scotland a wee tour around the city, George square, St Enoch square, Glasgow Cathedral.
Glasgow - Scots: Glesga; Scottish Gaelic: Glaschu [ˈkl̪ˠas̪xu]) is the largest city in Scotland, and the third largest in the United Kingdom (after London and Birmingham). Historically part of Lanarkshire, it is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West Central Lowlands. Inhabitants of the city are often referred to as Glaswegians and have the lowest life expectancy of any UK city.
Glasgow grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde to become the largest seaport in Britain. Expanding from the medieval bishopric and royal burgh, and the later establishment of the University of Glasgow in the 15th century, it became a major centre of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th century. From the 18th century the city also grew as one of Great Britain's main hubs of transatlantic trade with North America and the West Indies.
With the onset of the Industrial Revolution, the population and economy of Glasgow and the surrounding region expanded rapidly to become one of the world's pre-eminent centres of chemicals, textiles and engineering; most notably in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry, which produced many innovative and famous vessels. Glasgow was the Second City of the British Empire for much of the Victorian era and Edwardian period, although many cities argue the title was theirs.[6][7][8][9]
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries Glasgow grew in population, reaching a peak of 1,128,473 in 1939.[10] Comprehensive urban renewal projects in the 1960s, resulting in large-scale relocation of people to new towns and peripheral suburbs, followed by successive boundary changes, reduced the population of the City of Glasgow council area to 599,650[11] with 1,209,143[12] people living in the Greater Glasgow urban area. The entire region surrounding the conurbation covers about 2.3 million people, 41% of Scotland's population.[13] At the 2011 census, Glasgow had a population density of 8,790/sq mi (3,390/km2), the highest of any Scottish city.[14]
Glasgow hosted the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Glasgow is also well known in the sporting world for the football rivalry of the Old Firm between Celtic and Rangers.

The Barras Market - Glasgow, UK
The Barras is a major street and indoor weekend market in the East End of Glasgow, Scotland. The term barra is Glaswegian dialect for barrow, relating to the market's early years, where traders sold their wares from handcarts. Barrowland is sometimes used to describe the district itself where the market is located, which is actually officially known as Calton.

Ian Blackford OPPOSES Westminster Tory arrogance & contempt for Scotland
It's time for us to have a say in this mess. Notice the smug smiles and how even with a majority they are still pushing the lies, working class England handed the rich the biggest tax break in history and they are loving it.
Corbyn still sits there craving power and blind to why he wasn't elected, worst Labour leader ever, he had some good ideas in his early days but he's such a brextremist you can tell he didn't even believe his own words and was just saying things he thought would get him elected, just like the good wee Tory he actually is...for the sake of democracy hurry up and quit.

Glasgow: From Street Crime to Street Food
#crime #food
Scotland’s latest police stats show huge drop in homicides and violent crime. The fall is result of the nation’s Violence Reduction Unit. After 10 years of picking up and cleaning up criminals the VRU hires, trains and returns them to the streets ready for work and new life. Can London learn from this? It seems it has. Mayor has said similar process to begin in the capital. We were with the VRU’s Street and Arrow unit where ex-offenders were ‘cooking’ through their day.
