I made this video mostly just as a scouting report for anyone who's wondering what the bike paths are like on this route.
The first half shows the bike trail south out of Welland; the second half shows the Friendship Trail running east-west between Port Colborne and Fort Erie. The section between Niagara Falls and Fort Erie is really nice too (Niagara Parkway) ..it's essentially good shoulders on a street people know bikes travel on.
Don't go too far into Niagara Falls (on bike) though ... we headed east to Welland along McLeod/49, which is really urban, but it's only about 5 k of urban. If I were to do the loop again, I'd use Lyons Creek/Montrose98/Chippawa Creek to go west.
The whole loop is about 100km.

On The Trail - Greater Niagara Circle Route
The Greater Niagara Circle Route Trails System is over 140 km of mostly off-road, paved trails suitable for walking, cycling or rollerblading. Motorized vehicles are not permitted. The paved trail is mostly 3 metres wide and passes through urban centres, downtowns, the Niagara Escarpment, waterfronts, and rural/agricultural areas.
The system includes the Welland Canals Trail which passes alongside parts of the existing and previous canals from St. Catharines on Lake Ontario (north end) through Thorold and Welland to Port Colborne on Lake Erie (south end). The Friendship Trail goes between Port Colborne and Fort Erie (east end). From Fort Erie the Niagara River Recreation Trail follows the Niagara River, through the city of Niagara Falls, to Niagara-on-the-Lake (north end). The Waterfront Trail follows Lakeshore Road from Niagara-on-the-Lake to St. Catharines (west end). Trail mileage markers are on the trail around the circle starting at Old Fort Erie (km. 0) and proceeding in a counter-clockwise direction.

Harley, Shawn and me leave Shawns place in Alanburg heading to the Port Colborne end of the trail and the newer forest sections at Rameys bend. Into the Bunnies first before seeing wild turkeys and some young.

Walk Along Welland ave near Ontario St.
I took this video after leaving my Doctor's office on Welland Ave., down near Ontario St. I actually walked up to that crossing, up further away from Ontario St. by a school or what ever that building is, heading east. Sorry for just getting a part of my face near the end as I thought I had the camera pointed at me but obviously I was a little off.

Our Trip to Welland This Year . We found more trails. I didn't Think there were that many trails here.We rode for eight hours each day. Lots of rutted trail, mud and stone throughout our ride. I made some small clips of the trip.

Montebello Park Kids Playground NWF 2011 Lake St, Ontario St, St Catharines.
a cool playground at montebello park for the kiddies and when there's no niagara festival going on you can walk around on the grounds and paths with your dogs.
this is great for our tourists travelling from niagara to toronto or buffalo, welland, port colborne and fort erie.
montebello park close to the hwy 406 exits for westchester ave, fourth ave, geneva st, lake st, welland ave. (if your on the QEW niagara take the 406 hwy exit towards welland ontario and get off at fourth ave and head towards ontario st, welland ave) turn right on ontario st and the park is one block on your left side.
if your coming from westchester ave, head towards st paul st, st paul w, ontario st intersection and go up ontario st about three blocks and the park will be on your right.
on the corner of lake st, ontario st, st catharines ontario canada. (2 hour parking in the area and meters as well)
what i like is the location of this park. if your on hwy 406, or taking the QEW niagara to welland ontario, fort erie, port colborne you can get off at fourth ave, heading east and the park is 2 minutes away.
park along the free 2 hour parking area, get out, go for a walk, stretching your legs.
walk up queen st, to king st.. several home cooking restaurants here offer meals for under $10. go on king st heading east to find tim hortons, james st, church st for public library (have a coffee and some baked goodies at lisa's cafe - closed on sunday (sometimes) always closed mondays)
or go up james st for the bakery, international magazines, deli, european gourmet cooking, thai, chinese and more...

With all the extreme cold weather lately we have had recently, I thought i'd take advantage of it and do the yearly ritual of putting the skates on and skating the Welland Canal by Bridge 13! I always make sure with a near by fisherman what the ice thickness is and this year it was 8-9 before the cold warnings! Although a couple days before this video was filmed, there was barely any snow on the ice and was perfect for skating! Unfortunately we received a couple snow falls and as you can tell there were times it was hard to skate through. But i've wanted to do a video for a long time now and wasn't passing it up! Enjoy!

Lake Erie Bike Loop - Part 1:
This video summarizes the last 5 Days of my solo bicycle trip around Lake Erie. The clips in the video were filmed between Thursday August 1 and Monday August 5, 2019. On Day 6 I caught a 9am ferry from Pelee Island to Kingsville, ON. For 5 days I followed along the Lake Erie Shoreline including Leamington, Erieau, Rondeau, New Glasgow, Port Stanley, Port Burwell, Port Rowan, Long Point, Simcoe, Cayuga, Dunnville, Port Maitland, and Port Colborne. On the final day of the trip I followed the Welland Canal to Port Weller, including a stop in Port Robinson, then followed the Niagara Parkway from Niagara-on-the-Lake back to Niagara Falls, ON.

The bike I used for this trip is a Linear Limo Recumbent Bike made in New York. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.

Niagara Frontier
Our Niagara Ride begins at the Town of Fort Erie and continues along the Niagara Parkway to the magnificent Niagara Falls. At Niagara Falls we experience the falls and the huge Hydro Electric Installations the white water along the Niagara Gorge. We continue to Fort George and the quaint town of Niagara on the Lake. At Port Weller, we follow the Welland Canal to Thorold, Welland, and Port Colborne before returning to Fort Erie.
