Mari Lywd1
A fantastic piece of Welsh Calendar Custom - the Mari Lywd, or Grey Mare is a horse-head carried about as a mascot at New Year, and the leaders of the Mari have 'flytings' or verse-fights with the occupants of the houses they visit until they gain entry by showing superior wit in their verse.

Kiss of the Mari Llwyd
Out for 12th night (old style) at the Duke of Clarence in Cardiff, a local folk dance group Dawnswyr Twrch Trwyth brings out the Mari Llwyd, who then helps lead a community sing in Welsh for a local Rugby Club, neighbors and friends.
In my 30 or so years in Cardiff, this is the first time I have seen the Mari Llwyd actually out around Canton in my own neighbourhood, although I have seen it elsewhere several times.
This is a Welsh tradition, claimed by some to be very ancient indeed, It happens around Christmas and New Year, when a local group will lead the grey mare (consisting of a decorated horses skull carried by a sheeted figure) around a pub, or sometimes door to door where a short battle of rhyming song takes place. Money is usually collected, either for drink for the horse and her companions, or to collect money for charity. The horse teases the audience, sometimes nipping at people or stopping to be petted by children.
On this occasion, after the traditional entrance song the horse joined in to sing along, encouraging participants in a community sing led by members of a local Rugby club, and about a dozen traditional musicians were out in force with fiddles, mandolins, guitars etc. Money was collected for a children's charity, and the dance group gave out a very nice booklet with the words to a variety of popular Welsh songs
The song you are hearing here is Calon Lan, not the entrance song for the Mari Llwyd. .
I will edit a longerr DV, but thought I would get this clip up to share!

The Mari Lwyd is a wassailing folk custom found in South Wales. The tradition entails the use of an eponymous hobby horse which is made from a horse's skull mounted on a pole and carried by an individual hidden under a sackcloth. It represents a regional variation of a hooded animal tradition that appears in various forms throughout Britain. The custom was first recorded in 1800, with subsequent accounts of it being produced into the early twentieth century.
