The Wight Bear Micro Pub - Southbourne
Southbourne's first micro pub and the second in Bournemouth, opened at the right time when people wanted really good craft ales, in a relaxed atmosphere and none of the extras so people can drink and chat.
I've loved this place from day one. It opened up a new world of ales to me and I could drink dark stouts and porters all year long without someone tell me I couldn't and that it was not a summer drink.
Great selection of bar snacks to go with your drinks.
It's not just cask and keg beers, but a wide range of ciders as well, bottles and cans, wines, spirits and fizz. The whole lot.
The pub has certainly brought back elements of the traditional pub but with a modern approach and flavours.

The Saxon Bear in Christchurch is a micro pub. Serving well managed, tapped beer straight from the barrel. Many of the cask beers are produced by independent brewers both locally and nationally. The difference with the Saxon Bear is they stock a lot of cans and bottles from further a field enabling you to try something new, not always on offer from other micro pubs.
You can enjoy a quiet beer, join in with the locals, make new friends or simply sit and read the paper by yourself, thats the beauty of this place. You’re still able to use the wifi but will get fined if your ringtone becomes the soundtrack to everyone pint!
Situated in the heart of Christchurch about 15 minutes from Bournemouth, you get a real sense of community and feel like you’ve walked into a proper old fashioned pub, that serves great beer, delicious snacks and simply just works.
The owners Dave and Nicola have created something quite special in this little pocket of Dorset. The staff are welcoming, knowledgable and are more than happy to help guide you towards what beer will suit your pallet.

Fine cocktails in a unique setting that was created by James Fowler, UK Best Bartender of the Year 2014 which is part of Diageo’s World Class competition. Some people come just for the cocktails, or pop up before or after their meal at the Larder House below.
I do love this place and have hired it for my birthday on several occasions. Having that space for friends and family, who may not have visited before, does produce the wow-factor. Very intimate and special.
When it comes to drinks, please don't expect any Sex on the Beach, but the bar staff are attentive in different ways when it comes to your drink needs. As you will see from the video, they are not short of spirits and will be happy to discuss what you like and come up with something classic or special.
