Coral Restoration Program Grand Cayman - Cayman Islands
Cayman Eco Divers in Collaboration with other Dive shops is working to combat the crisis in the world’s coral reefs.
We have lost the 96% to 98% of the corals in the Caribbean in in the past few years due largely to seawater temperature rise and ocean diseases. Aarun Hunt With the Cayman Eco Divers has developed a technique in effort to restore the beautiful reefs that surround Grand Cayman.

Recovering Art From Vandenberg Shipwreck
Our journey to the Vandenberg concludes with this last dive. We recover the art we placed on the ship 3 months back to see what the ocean has added to the art.
Watch how they got down there HERE:
Be it surfing, fishing, diving or just enjoying a day at the beach, we all have one thing in common... the ocean and all it has to offer!

Swim along an art gallery on the USS Vandenburg in the Florida Keys. Best dive ever!
The sunken General Hoyt S. Vandenburg has been turned into an underwater art exhibition that you have to see to believe. Photo illustrations by Viennese artist Andreas Franke are being displayed on the USS Vandenburg's deck, more than 90 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. It is such a pleasure to swim along the gallery and look at the art. They will remain in place for 4 months. Such wonderful work and such a great idea.

Corals
A coral group is a colony of myriad genetically identical polyps. Each polyp is a sac-like animal typically only a few millimeters in diameter and a few centimeters in length. A set of tentacles surround a central mouth opening. An exoskeleton is excreted near the base. Over many generations, the colony thus creates a large skeleton characteristic of the species. Individual heads grow by asexual reproduction of polyps. Corals also breed sexually by spawning: polyps of the same species release gametes simultaneously over a period of one to several nights around a full moon.
Although some corals can catch small fishand plankton using stinging cells on their tentacles, most corals obtain the majority of their energy and nutrients from photosynthetic unicellular dinoflagellates in the genus Symbiodinium that live within their tissues. These are commonly known as zooxanthellae. Such corals require sunlight and grow in clear, shallow water, typically at depths less than 60 metres (200 ft). Corals are major contributors to the physical structure of the coral reefs that develop in tropical and subtropical waters, such as the enormous Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
Other corals do not rely on zooxanthellae and can live in much deeper water, with the cold-water genus Lophelia surviving as deep as 3,000 metres (9,800 ft).[4] Some have been found on the Darwin Mounds, north-west of Cape Wrath, Scotland, and others as far north as off the coast of Washington State and the Aleutian Islands.

Diving The Vandenberg Wreck: The 2nd Largest Artificial Reef on Earth
In August 2015, having just returned from a brief trip to Cuba, I found myself with some spare time in Key West, FL. The weather was unusually calm - not so much as a breath of air - and when one of the local dive shop operators told me the current was the weakest she had ever seen it during a morning dive on the Vandenberg wreck, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to see it for myself that afternoon.
The USNS General Hoyt S. Vandenberg is the second largest artificial reef in the world. With an overall length of 522ft and a 71.5ft beam, this is a monster of a wreck to dive. When the current is weak, you are free to explore everything from the bow all the way to the stern. This wreck provides some of the most exceptional swim throughs you can find while wreck diving in the Florida Keys.
Depending on which time of the year you visit the Vandenberg, you can see enormous schools of yellowtail snapper, a healthy population of angel fish, and dozens of barracudas. On occasion, you may even spot a Goliath grouper resting below the stern. This is an excellent wreck for anyone interested in improving their wreck diving skills and is certainly one of the most incredible wreck dives in the world.
