Three Generation Organic Farm of The Traidhos 3-Generation Community for Learning: PTIS
The Three Generation Organic Farm of The Traidhos 3-Generation Community for Learning ( Founder & Owner Mom Tri Devakul ) : PTIS IB World school, all in Mae Rim district of Chiang Mai Thailand: Here I am having a fun tour by myself, while doing trail cycling in a peaceful and charming mountainous country-side, at the Three Generation Organic Farm. What they are doing here is so green, the learning house, especially the wall painting and the real black-board, is so cute really in a natural way by Ajaan Malee Devakul, this is truly a kind of a real classroom. Kids, students from worldwide, as well as families, are really enjoying their times here together in the fruitful ways of Environmental Education learning the organic farming ways, the inter-connections, the food web, etc. - integrations and interdisciplinary study to any subjects are always possible. This is also while every participant learn about the team work, the leadership, as well as different cultures, and etc.
The so-called Jungle Cooking an organised activity of the 3-G Farm kitchen-cooking house's own creation led by Ajaan Malee has also been very popular as high number of visiting students are flooding in.
The Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning also provide superb Residences for all visiting people with full services. Thanks to all, especially Ajaan Malee Devakul - Ajaan Arn/Paisid Nawlad - Ajaan Sheena Jackson who is also a very active farm coordinator. The 3-G Farm sign, registered - copyrighted, is also of a great design and very meaningful. It truly creates nice identity now for the place. Proud of you all of the elite team working hard there. With best wishes. Pete/Chititewan
Traidhos Three Generation: Market Day, next to PTIS, by The Three Generation Organic Farm
My blog:
At The Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning - PTIS International School - IB World School (Founder & Owner M.L.Tri Devakul) all in Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai of northern Thailand, a monthly Market Day - an open day organised and led by Ajaan Malee Devakul of The Three Generation Organic Farm - looks like a lot of fun to me and of course to all.
The Three Generation Organic Farm normally offer fun Environmental Education to all worldwide visiting schools - students, as well as all interested persons - groups with first class accommodation available, to learn the sustainable farming, the connections, the food-web, etc., (All and other more courses can also be tailored to specific needs for integration of teachings and learnings.) and the cooking of what students directly collect from the farm as well. This is while students also happily learn about different culture(s), team building, leadership, and etc.. Everything, every activity, at the farm is actually very effective teaching tools.
Ajaan Malee Devakul, MEd. as the Environmental Educator legitimately with past teaching experiences in bilingual school as well as being the founding crew of the original Chao Phraya Barge Programs, looks after the development of the farm and also tirelessly performs as one of the Chef Teachers amongst her peers of the elite team of Ajaan Paisid Nawlad and Ajaan Sheena Jackson who is also a very active Farm Coordinator, nicely integrates different subjects to the creative teaching - learning - thinking, via Environmental Education techniques, to their students with completely hands on - experiential learning giving to all students - and an effective ways of interdisciplinary study.
That's why a kind of fair education, by well trained - qualified personnel, of what is appropriately, and superbly, most importantly with righteousness, delivering here to all students is different from just another cooking school (empty and boring !!!) or a normal classroom. The Three Generation Farm organised activities, especially the Jungle Cooking of Ajaan Malee, are proven to be popular as recorded high numbers of participants have been flooding in. I think I found it a lot of fun at the farm too and am proud of the hard working team there. Pete / Chititewan

Using science to improve the farm in Thailand
While in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the students of THINK Global School worked alongside the organic farm staff at Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning, using science to brainstorm necessary improvements for the grounds and animals. Science teacher Jarret Voytilla helped his students do research and create proposals for the farm, some of which were implemented while on location.

PTIS of The Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning: Birthday 8th for Fonteparit Devakul
Check out this too
At The Traidhos Three Generation Community for Learning, PTIS International School, IB World, Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, Thailand, a little after lunch Fond's birthday cake and ice-cream, 2010, for all Fond's friends seems like a lot of fun for PTIS students. This little happy moment shows good student's group cohesion, trust, and respect, as well as love and caring for their meaningful friendships. Ajaan Diana for PTIS Grade 3 so kindly spared her private lunch break to help conducting the fun until Ajaan Malee got a short time off from teaching integrated environmental education using the organic cooking as a fun and very effective teaching tool to share the BD cake cutting with her own daughter Fond, happy happy,

A lot of Thai
Yui (Siripen Sriyabhaya), Thailand's international TV chef, and her husband, Kwan, a graphic designer, are the creative engines running A lot of Thai home cooking class. Yui began teaching Thai cooking in 1999. Ten years later, she still teaches every dish in every class by herself to guarantee the highest quality of instruction. Her expertise attracts a variety of students such as, TV chefs, executive chefs, culinary school teachers, international Thai cooking instructors, food columnists, cookbook authors, tourists, and food lovers.
Established in 2001, A lot of Thai began with a maximum class size of 8 people. Even though their business has seen tremendous growth, Yui and Kwan have decided that this small class size maintains the personalization and individual attention that each student deserves. The success of their growth can partly be attributed to the power of word of mouth publicity.
Although Yui is highly skilled and very accomplished, her intent is not to show off her skills, but rather to humbly teach concepts of cooking. Her unique blend of art and science truly make cooking exciting, fun, and easy to follow. When students cook these delicious dishes in class, they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to recreate these dishes at home.
So, what makes A lot of Thai unique?
• A lot of Thai is a 100% Thai owned business.
• They offer a variety of substitutions for vegetarians-- not just tofu and more tofu.
• Food can be served with brown rice.
• They support local grocery stores instead of chain supermarkets because they believe in sharing good fortune with their community.
• In class, students cook and eat each dish immediately to enjoy the maximum freshness while it's still hot.
• Students cook with the highest quality cooking utensils. No Aluminum pots.
• They value the importance of caring for the environment by always using cloth bags and their own containers for shopping--not just for the business, but in their everyday life.
• The classroom setting is a homey atmosphere in which each student is welcomed into Yui and Kwan's real home where 3 generations of their family still live together in the
traditional Thai way.
• A spotlessly clean cooking environment is a priority.
• Healthy cooking and cleaning standards presents a very hygienic setting-- No double dipping in the class.
• The market tour is very informative. Yui will explain everything even it's not using in
the class.
• Yui and Kwan creatively wrote and cleverly designed their own beautiful cookbook featuring delicious recipes with simple instructions, stunning imagery, and whimsical graphics. It is printed in full color and not photocopied or inkjet printed. A lot of Thai cookbook is published and can be found in book stores.
• Students are picked up by classic vehicles. The baby blue 1974 VW van and lime green 1967 Mazda 1500 will bring you back to your childhood or take you on a retro-cool trip.

Cambodia Infield Investigation
The Tonle Sap Lake and river system in Cambodia is home to 1.2 million people, around a quarter of whom live in floating communities on the lake. The lake is of great significance to all Cambodians; over 75% of the country's fish catch is sourced from the Tonle Sap. Cultural and societal links to the lake are also strong. However, poor sanitation practices have put the long term environmental sustainability of the lake and its inhabitants at risk.
At present, residents living in floating barges dispose of human, animal and food waste directly into the lake. This greatly affects the water quality of the lake, and has lasting effects on the health of Tonle Sap residents. Similar health concerns arise for those residents relying on wood fired stoves for cooking applications. These concerns, combined with Cambodia's extremely high deforestation rate, add impetus to replace current cooking methods. There is clearly a great need, and a resolute aspiration within these communities, to implement more sustainable, environmentally friendly waste management solutions.
Engineers Without Borders Australia (EWB) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) working in partnership with developing communities in Australia and overseas, assisting these communities to gain access to the knowledge, resources and appropriate technologies they need to improve their livelihood. EWB has been working with Live and Learn Environmental Education, a Cambodian NGO, in addressing the sanitation needs of floating communities on the Tonle Sap. In 2010 a community wide sanitation barge was built in the Phat Sanday community. This barge is used to test various waste management proposals and educate the community to engage in improved sanitary practices.
One such initiative being tested on the sanitation barge is the installation of a continuous flow floating biodigester. Human, animal and food waste is treated by the biodigester and can then be used as a fertiliser or alternatively safely disposed of into the lake. This process is known as anaerobic digestion, and produces a useful by-product known as biogas. Capturing this biogas has the potential to be of great value to the community as it contains a significant proportion of
methane. Biogas can been effectively used in a variety of rural applications as fuel for cooking and lighting.
It is within this framework that this project is based. This project aims to develop, design and test a device to capture, treat and store useful amounts of biogas for use in the community. Even though the project design will be based on a prototype biodigester being installed on a test barge, attention will be given to ensure the final device is scalable and can be altered for use in a variety of different applications, depending on the specific needs of the community.
While in Cambodia, the authors travelled to the Phat Sanday community to conduct a series of studies and to gain a personal appreciation of the local environment. The trip was based on achieving three main goals; conducting a feasibility study into material availability and cost, engaging with the local community and environment to gain an understanding of the relevance of 2
this project, and finally to assist in the installation of the continuous flow biodigester. The trip proved invaluable to the merit of the final report, particularly as slight design alterations could be made before final submission to EWB.
It is expected that following the successful operation of the continuous flow biodigester, the Phat Sanday community will be eager to test this biogas capture and storage device. EWB and Live and Learn have a long term commitment to the community and the authors of this report are confident that this solution will provide a tangible benefit to the community in the long term, and if successful the solution could be introduced to other communities on the lake.

Journey to Akha Ama Coffee: Lee Ayu Chuepa at TEDxChiangMai 2013
Lee Ayu Chuepa (ลี อายุ จือปา) is the Co-founder of Akha Ama Coffee (ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง กาแฟ AKHA AMA) a 'fair-trade' coffee that has won international awards. Lee was born and brought up in Mae Chan Tai, an Akha village in Chiang Rai Province. I'd never been to the city as a kid, says Lee, but I told my parents I wanted to study. And so Lee went on a journey that took him to a temple in Lamphun, where he learned to speak Thai and some English, and later he became the first from his village to attend university. Lee finished high school, becoming a member of various youth groups and organisations in Chiang Mai including UNICEF before he went on to study English at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. But Lee had a dream of his own, and after receiving a social entrepreneurship grant he started Akha Ahma coffee in 2010. Lee has been able to develop coffee produced in his home area into a high quality brand, using the income to help transform his local community.
